Kick it old school with the Kicker Solo Classic 09S8C4 8" subwoofer, which combines the timeless design of the original round Solo-Baric subs with new technology and materials. The Solo Classic uses the SoloKon™ one-piece cone and other innovations to deliver reliable performance that lives up to the Kicker name. Best of all, this sub works best in a very small sealed enclosure, so it's a great candidate for compact cars and other space-challenged vehicles.

Time tested design
The SoloKon cone uses a one-piece, polypropylene design for exceptional rigidity and accurate response, and the ribbed rubber surround maintains control over cone travel. The stamped steel basket, stitched surround, and spring-loaded terminals made the original Solo-Baric an instant smash the first time around, so Kicker incorporates them into the Solo Classic for durability and hard-hitting bass that won't give up.

DVC versatility
The sub's high-temperature, dual 4-ohm voice coils will withstand the stress of your music's demands — they allow you to wire the sub for 2-ohm impedance to draw maximum power from your amp, or for 8-ohms in a multi-sub system. Combine the Solo Classic with a small sealed enclosure, a compatible amp and some wiring, and get back to the fundamentals of great bass.

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4ohm load.

Cone Material: The SoloKon design is a unique one-piece construction, using polypropylene material that moves as a lightweight piston, for improved control. The cone remains rigid, minimizing cone flex and distortion.

Surround: The tough, flexible rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Basket Assembly: The SoloClassic utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly.

Dual Voice Coil: The dual voice coils sustain enormous cone excursion and provide flexible impedance matching options. The high-temperature Polyimide Film Voice Coil former improves sonic and conducive properties, and prevents thermal-electrical meltdown.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during installation. If the boot is removed, the magnet diameter is 5.294 inches.

Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with heavy gauge speaker wire. The terminals will accept pin connectors, single banana plugs, of bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker SoloClassic woofers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Box Volume: Kicker recommends mounting the SoloClassic 8" woofer only in a sealed enclosure; volume 0.33 cubic feet.

Why buy only one of these little guys?? Well I have to say I didn't buy one, I bough 6 !!!!!!! And I must say the amp to power 6 solo classics has to me one kx.1200.1

That amp is a work horse and never fails, unless you miss wire something. I went from 2 12" l7s to 6, 8"s and I definitely say the solo classics win !!

So don't buy only one or two and complain.. there only 8" subwoofers...

Pros: I've been trying to blow these subs, and no luck

Cons: My ears ring some times

I have to say that kicker totally failed when they created this sub. Loud and the S8C4 should not be used in the same sentenced. First I used 2 on the rear channels of a Kicker zx460 aprox. ( 75 watts each ) and it sounded decent. I then swapped in a Kicker zr 360 bridged ( aprox 250 watts each ) and I was so disappointed. They distort easily with both amps. I checked deck settings use multimeter to check impedance etc. The box is a Jl stealthbox .33 per sub. These subs where on clearance for a reason... Now I have to look for new subs. BTW THESE SUBS EFFICIENCY IS ONLY 81DB!!! Simply terrible.... The Fosgate hx2 and jl 8w6 were much better in .33 sealed.

Pros: They were new.

Cons: Efficiency, distorts quickly, not loud at all

Awesome

Bought it to replace factory 8" In rear dash. Sounds nice at low volume. But needs a box for strong bass. If I need a box anyways might as well just buy a 12". Solo baric L3 is better replacement.

Pros: Price is awesome. Small enough if u need to save space.

Cons: Not good as a free air sub. Needs box. Doesn't look impressive in a box.

Very impressed

I installed An 8" kicker of this model in my dads highly confined cab of his f-250 super duty. And wow. For an 8" sub. Sounds like a strong 10". Not dissapointed at all!!

Pros: Looks good, sounds great, lots of strength and clarity. And great price

Cons: I couldn't fit more of these in the truck :)

Just thought i would have got a little more boom for the buck.

Pros: Looks to be good construction.

Cons: Not much bass before it starts to distort. I thought this sub would be a little better.

Kicker Solo-Classic 8" - The Little Bass Monster

Written By Jonesy, Central, NJ on Tuesday, October 12, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

About a month ago, I bought the Kicker Solo Classic 8 sub along with a S/O .38 cu. ft. box and they work very well with each other. I have this sub hooked to a Kenwood Excelon x789 head unit and an older Rockford Fosgate 301M Mono amp running in parallel. This combination really does hit amazingly hard considering the tiny trunk space it occupies in my car.

The sub really pounds out some low, powerful bass although the extremely low frequencies seems to fall off as expected with a small diameter sub. However, don't be fooled by the size of this sub, it is plenty powerful to shake your mirrors and give you a slight back massage when the volume is turned up.

I would recommend this sub to anyone that wants clean, hard bass inside their car but does not need to advertise to the whole neighborhood that you are coming down the street.

We've verified that these enclosures are a good match for this subwoofer.
It's critical to have good wire, and none is included with the sub.
Reduce ambient road noise and your vehicle's "rattles," for better sound inside your car.
