Own a big boat? Wouldn't it be nice to control the sound levels in different areas of the boat? That's right — blast it out loud and proud up on deck, while you keep the mood more subdued down below.

Kicker's ZXMRLC dual-zone remote level control is the tool you need to get it done. Plug your audio source into one end of the module and then run the output to two separate amps, one for each zone. Then connect the level controls to the module and mount one in each of your zones. Just twist the knobs to chill it out or get it cranking.

Dual-zone control

That's not all this cool device can do, though. If you've got an ATV, motorcycle, or classic car without a traditional head unit, connect your iPod® or other device to the module and use the level control to adjust the volume for a single amp and zone. Warranty: 1 year.

Just what I needed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just what I needed for independent control of the tower speakers in my boat. Much less expensive than other products that offer zone control.

Pros: Simple and effective.

Cons: Mine was missing the shorter of the two control cables. I didn't realize I would need an extra RCA cable and the power/ground wires were fairly short. None of these things were a big deal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome product. Turned our pontoon boat into a functional concert experience and ability to still hold a convo in the boat while it was party central through the tower speakers outside the boat.

Pros: Great sound and easy to install. Product was very functional and limited the number of RCA's I needed to go to my subs.

Cons: Zone control knobs are cheap and they rotate too far...wished they had used aluminum or some kind of nicer finish. Still is awesome though!!

Good product but too expensive

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I haven't installed this product yet but I am assuming it will work as advertised. The reason I am writing this review is that it seems strange to me that this was the only product like this on the market and the amount of money it costs. I have two Dual SBP8A 8 subwoofers (similar to the Sound Ordnance B-8P) to install in my extended cab pickup and since each box has it's own amplifier, I needed a splitter. I searched the interwebs and found that most people were just using "Y" splitters from another retailer. I went ahead and got this device to use because I really like the idea of being able to control the subs volume independently without using the head unit control, which is hard to access. My plan is to mount the volume control modules under my console so I can reach down and easily tweak the sub volume for different music. My complaint is the cost. I would have happy to pay $30-$50 but this is too much for what it is: a glorified "Y" splitter.

Pros: allows independent volume controls for two amplifiers from one RCA output.

Cons: Costs too much money.

Overview: The dual-zone, ZXMRLC Remote Level Control/Preamp from Kicker delivers ultimate flexibility and control in a boat's audio system, or in any area where two levels of loudness zones are needed. The Kicker ZXMRLC provides separate level controls for a pair of audio zones on a watercraft, such as the tower and cockpit speakers. The ZXMRLC utilizes a single RCA input, two RCA outputs, two remote gain control knobs, remote extender cables, mounting hardware, and power connections.

Stereo RCA Input/Outputs: The Kicker ZXMRLC features a single line-level, (RCA) stereo input that handles up to 4.5 volts and differential-balanced inputs for minimizing unwanted noise. The ZXMRLC boasts a stout preamp design providing up to 9VRMS of unclipped output to amplifiers and dual line-level, (RCA) stereo zone outputs, each with its own rotary volume control knobs.

Note: The ZXMRLC can be used with an iPod or any MP3 player for applications where traditional head units are not needed.

Dual Zone Volume Controls: The ZXMRLC's two individual volume-controlled stereo RCA outputs can be used for any application where greater control is needed over amplifier volume and level. Tower speaker volume can be turned independently from the boat speakers. Subwoofers or transom speakers can be added and controlled as well.
