Our take on the Kicker 11HS8

When Kicker set out to make the Hideaway™ compact powered sub, they wanted to make a subwoofer that could fit almost anywhere and still deliver the performance that made Kicker famous. At just over 3" tall, the Hideaway™ will fit under many seats and in storage areas where you don't usually find powered subs. The powerful, built-in 150-watt RMS amplifier delivers strong bass that'll add depth and punch to any type of music.

Big performance

The 8" woofer can hit low notes that'll really rock your ride, especially when the Hideaway™ is mounted in the vehicle's interior. The included remote control bass knob will let you adjust the bass level on the fly. Kicker even included Nylon straps with Velcro® fasteners to mount the sub, plus a quick disconnect harness with power and signal wiring that'll make the installation easier.

Installation Note: The Hideaway™ sub will accept preamp-level signals, but you'll need to connect Kicker's KISL adapter to the sub's 8-foot signal harness so you can plug it into your receiver's preamp outputs.

Great sound very pleased with the overall quality of the product

Excellent for what it is. Puts out a ton of bass for such a small footprint. Can fit under my seat in a Toyota Sienna minivan. I put one under the driver seat and one under the rear bench and the sound is awesome... very well balanced. Other speakers are Polk dv6501's and kicker 2 ways pushed by an Alpine PDR-F50 and the two kicker hideaways pair great with it. A great option if you don't want to lose any space in your car or van. Doesn't do well on extremely low bass tones but for 99.9 percent of the music I listen to its great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I mounted this under the passenger seat in my 02 Trailblazer. The height and width are a good fit . I have a non power seat and when the seat is all the way back the sub protrudes out about 2". The seat track release handle is in the way and does not allow you to move the sub further under the seat. Given all other optional locations it was least intrusive and my spot of choice. I mounted the sub with the wiring and controls towards the front of the seat to avoid the rear passenger from hitting the wiring. I can still get to the controls from the front. I used the mounting brackets instead of the strap. The install and wiring were fairly easy to do. I recomend the optional KISL speaker-level input adapter. As far as the sound goes this little sub is amazing. If your procrastinating or questioning this subs performance, stop! and just buy it. You will not be disappointed I can't believe the deep bass this compact sub produces. I never imagined the amount of bass this little combo could produce. If you want to make a scene driving down the block, this is not the sub for you. If you want to fill your car with great music and good clean bass sound ,this is all you need. It definitely packs a punch and will put a smile on your face. I paired this with a Blaupunkt San Antonio 640 navigation receiver and the sound is awesome.

Pros: Clean deep bass, compact, easy to install, sound quality, wiring and hardware included, good value, solid construction and it's a Kicker!

Cons: As far as the unit zero cons, maybe it should come with the KISL level adapter.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It took a while for me to get the wire mass under the passenger carpet and out the back. After several attempts and some time, I used a thicker metal wire hanger with success to lead the wires underneath without screwing anything up. I placed this amazing unit under the passenger seat of a Toyota Corolla. Rocking it together with a Kenwood Exceleon KDC-X599 receiver, and Polk Audio 5" Coaxial DB501 in front and Polk Audio 6.5" Slim Mount Coaxial DXi651s in the rear. This unit is incredibly strong for its size, and its performance and clarity is amazing. I set the receiver's Polk Audio bass response down -1 on the adjustable band and everything is A+. A note of caution though. Don't go crazy with the bass too soon.

Pros: Compact, incredibly strong bass, amazing value, great customer support

Cons: Instructions could be better and with tips, no warnings on bass being deceptive

I am amazed at the bass this puts out when paired with the lc2i in my 2016 Jeep Wrangler - add on to my factory system. Exceeds my expectations

Pros: small, durable, huge bass, comes with wiring and cables were all long enough for my setup.

Cons: Might not be enough for a closed off trunk, but sounds amazing in my Jeep Wrangler.

Pros: Just a good unit and thought out and designed very well

Cons: I can't seem to find anything bad

Perfect For Me: Extend Factory Radio Bass & Output in 2015 Accord

Written by: Eric S from Williamsburg, VA on February 8, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I originally bought a Sounds Ordnance (S/O) compact sub, but it didn't provide bass my factory stereo wasn't already producing. I returned it & got this Kicker Hideaway and am VERY pleased. It fits under the passenger seat of my 2015 Accord Sport PERFECTLY, and goes deeper than the S/O (as the specs indicated it would), and it complements the sound MUCH better now; doesn't "step on the toes" of the factory stereo as the S/O did. This Kicker has nuance, and good sound quality at reasonable sound levels; it is significantly better than the S/O sub, as it should be for the price. It is a compact sub so it isn't going do what dual 15" woofers would. But I didn't want to sacrifice ANY trunk space (I carry around an electric bass and musical equipment), and didn't want to cut up my car. If you have a 2015 Accord LX or Sport (w/at least one manually-adjusted seat), then this Kicker is a MUST, along with a pair of nice Polk dB-1001 tweeters (which I added last year). The level control stealthily mounts in the console very discreetly, and it "goes to 11". Can't believe this is a mostly factory setup- Sounds great for my purposes (40%-80% volume on interstate commuting). If you want to make your ears bleed and shred phone books, look elsewhere and spend more.

Pros: Maximum bass in very concealable package Great sound quality

Cons: Wish it was $50 cheaper (go for open box buy)

Cons: Very subtle addition.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The installation is pretty strange forward, I took just about half hour to get everything mounted. The unit has metal frame, you feel it pretty durable. I'm not impressed the sound quality, the power is enough for me, but the accuracy of sound is not what I'm expecting. I'm considering to try with the other brand or even different configuration for comparison. Maybe I'm too picky, overall, it is fairly ok.

Pros: Easy installation Metal frame, very well-built quality compact size to fit my car perfectly

Cons: Lack accuracy of low frequency sound

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Written by: Diamondave from Alabama on January 13, 2016

Installed it under the front passenger seat. Wow, what a change. I also put 2 Kicker coaxials in the sound bar of the Jeep. These 2 mods changed the whole game. This is worth the effort. It took me about 3 hours to put it in and wire it up. I used the high inputs and scotch locked onto the front speaker wires. I did not use the blue wire. There is a YouTube video on how to get thru the jeep firewall on the left. I pulled power and ground from the battery to the unit with a #14 2 conductor, landscape light cable with terminals staked on. This sub is worth the $.

Pros: Adjustments bass thru wired remote, settable crossover

Cons: None for mounting u Der Wrangler passenger seat.

Size isnt everything

Written by: Travis from New Jersey on December 5, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the size of this little unit, it adds exactly what was needed in my truck. I have a 2003 Ford F250, extended cab, so I don't have alot of space for a sub. It took a little modification of a seat bracket in my truck, but otherwise it fits perfectly under my center front seat. Wiring is a extremely easy, no need to worry about where to find a hole to run a 8 gauge wire. My headunit is the original Pioneer AppRadio double din, all the speakers in my truck are stock (for now). I've had this sub installed for about a year now, it still sounds amazing. I can turn up the volume and walk away from the truck and hear the bass clearly from a small distance away. The way I have mine positioned, the bass resonates through the seats and adds that extra oomph I was looking for. Its just as good in the back seat. I don't even think my old kicker comp 10" in a well built box in my old truck sounded this good. Now granted for my application this is perfect. My radio is tuned so almost every genre of music sounds great without any re-adjustments. Sometimes it doesn't hit the real low notes too hard, and some songs just have too much bass where the sound starts to distort (and the included remote bass volume dial takes care of that) but I'm not mad, because with a driver so small it can only do so much. If you're looking for car rattling apart bass go elsewhere. If you're looking for crisp and smooth bass in a tiny package, you've hit paydirt

Pros: Compact Size Easy to wire Great sounding bass Remote Bass Volume dial included Easy set up

Cons: None in my mind

Great Sound from a Small Footprint

Written by: Steve S from Illinois on November 24, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As most who have positively reviewed this product had pickup trucks, i wasnt expecting it to boom in my Jeep Renegade like it does. It really provides the low-end that my factory system was missing. I mounted on the back of my second row seats and it doesnt take away from my cargo area at all while staying off the floor and away form the elements. Really got a lot of bang for the buck.

Pros: Clean Bass Enough controls to tweak to perfection remote for controlling bass boost high level or line level input making tapping factory speaker wires easy using a +12v or Remote Trigger to turn the amp power on

Cons: The wiring harness is great for convenience in one attachment but sort of a nightmare for actually running the wiring. The speaker wires on the harness were too short, so i had to use a speedwire.

Nice addition for a compact size

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Sold performer, it made a good difference for my single cab truck and fit under the seat. Good sound to fill the gap of no bass to a good thump. Not earth shattering by any means but I do not think it was intended to be. Works great and like the fact it has a remote for quick adjustments on the fly.

Pros: Small, decent bass, easy install, remote control

Cons: Not a window breaker

Great compact sub application

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I returned a Sound Ordinance compact powered sub of the same size because it did not reproduce lower bass frequencies. I am much happier with this unit. It has a deeper frequency response (25hz vs 40hz) than the Sound Ordinance and it reproduces the lower bass notes in your music.

Pros: Compact size, (fits under the driver seat of my 2009 Subaru Impreza), ease of installation, full/deep bass reproduction. Highly recommended if you want to add bass in a compact space.

Cons: None

More than impressed

Written by: Rich from Illinois on November 2, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This powered sub puts the icing on the cake for the sound system in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. I wanted something that would fit under the front seat, and the dimensions seemed like it would, given that its difficult to actually measure the space under the seat I feel very fortunate that this fit (without any room to spare) between the seat mounts and low enough to allow the seat to slide forward and back without contacting the sub. I did have to get a little creative with the brackets to tie it down but I wont go into that, no fault of the mfg. or Crutchfield. As for the sound I'm hearing lower lows than expected and have had to play a variety of music and tune as I go to find the perfect balance. At first it was easy to allow to much base for my taste, I like to hear it as close to live or as close to the intended recording as possible. If you are looking for a compact Sub and aren't trying to drown out all other frequency's then this could be for you

Pros: Compact, plenty of frequency range, price was good

Cons: Would like to have had RCA inputs instead of the single Molex plug for all connections but that was only to make installation simpler, not detrimental to sound quality what so ever.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is just what I wanted. Fits just right under the rear seat of my 2007 GMC sierra Classic Extended cab. I was unsure about what it was going to sound like but, it has just enough thump to provide the sound I wanted. It isn't ear deafening and won't rattle the neighbors windows but will rattle the vehicles windows and mirrors if set right. My adviser was right to include the RCA adapter cable for hookup in my order. It is a straight forward install easy install.

Pros: Perfect thump for 8" The wired remote is great too

Cons: Haven't found one yet.

Great value so far...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The review title is the bottom line here. This little package is a great deal. I'm going to assume that my unit doesn't have a short life span like many others have experienced. If indeed it does prematurely lay down on me, then my opinion will change greatly. So, on to the meat and potatoes. I purchased this unit to in a 2002 F-150 extended cab. I wanted something I could hide under the rear seat without removing the jack. This thing fit perfectly. Installation was fairly straight forward. If you have installed an amp before then you shouldn't have much problem here. I have to say, I don't care much for the wiring harness. Some might find it handy, I would have preferred to install with standard amp wiring. Also, the adapter required for low level input feels a little suspect, but I must say it has worked fine for me so far. Note: Make sure your phase setting is right when setting this system up after installation. It is potentially very easy to have this sub out of phase with the rest of your system in which case it could basically produce little to no sound. Oh, and about that sound...this thing kicks. I'm used to having full blown, high power systems in my vehicles, and this helps my truck keep up surprisingly well. The power really surprises me. For my application it actually produces a more boomy sound than the punch I was expecting, although a little tweaking can change that somewhat. So, if you're looking to add some bottom end to your set up, try it

Pros: - Small package - Great sound - Great value, especially from scratch and dent - Probably has almost everything you need in one box

Cons: - Separate adapter required for low level inputs - Required a little more tweaking than I'm used to - This specific unit seems to have a reputation for reliability issues

Easy to install, the wiring harness makes for quick hook up. Just would have like to see more about the remote turn on wire, that has to have power to work, but really easy. The grounding wire was short, but easy to extend.

Pros: Great bass and controls only about half way, makes my F-250 rock!

Cons: I needed more instruction on the remote turn on wire.

It's all about that bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The kicker is that the Kicker 11HS8 kicks some butt. I was really impressed that such a big boom can come from such a small box and was greatly surprised after installing this in my 2004 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab. It fits perfectly behind the rear seats (especially since there is not much room for anything else) and the wiring wasn't too complicated. Some of the wiring (more specifically the speaker and the remote power wires) on the harness that came with the system was a little shorter than I would have liked but wasn't a big deal soldering or crimping on some additional leads. The system gave some great bass response and really improved the sound in my ride. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others.

Pros: Very compact and fits easily in small spaces. Connectivity was fairly simple. Bass response is very good and really added to the sound in my vehicle.

Cons: Although installation wasn't as bad as I had thought it would be, the installation manual was a bit lacking and took a little time to figure out (really only 2 pages of pictures with little written instruction). I ended up going to the Crutchfield site to get additional info on basic power amp / sub installation to get a good feel of what I needed to do.

Don't waste your time.

Purchased this because of all the good reviews. Wired it all up and 1st the turn on setting using signal from speaker didn't rrally work as the amp would shut off with higher volume levels. 2nd the speaker vibrates as if something is loose inside.

Pros: Looks good in trunk.

Cons: Expensive and did not work properly.

Kicker hs118 ROCKS!

Written by: HondaCivic4dr5speedKarl from Bel air maryland on June 16, 2015

With a background in pro-audio, bit of an audiophile. As I age(not even 30 yet by the way), the aftermarket, 300lb, 300Db 3k watt, 30k$ sound systems become less of a nesessity. Only remaining priorities include solid bass, clean sound, and low maintenance. Didn't expect much from a lower priced kicker product found at your local electronics store, with which I have dealt with quite often, being the village-stereo installler that I am. Don't get me wrong! Biased opinion does not reflect Kicker's higher-end products... ...Installed/tuned and ready to criticize in less than 20min! Bose-like sound quality, and mind-blowingly compact design! The longer I own this unit, the more I appreciate what Kicker has done, hence the review. Crutchfield & Kicker, You Rock!

Pros: Quality sound, compact design, brilliant "auto/input sensing remote signal", ease of installment.

Cons: Price.

Fills out the sound

Written by: Blissy from Texas on June 14, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this sub to help fill out the sound in my 2001 Silverado Extended-Cab. I'm not someone who wants to shake the ground, but when I turn up the music, I want to be able to appreciate the beat without distorting my 3-way speakers' output. This fills that function perfectly! I installed the unit behind the rear-bench, on the cab's back-wall, on the driver's side. I removed an appropriate section of insulation and mounted the box directly to the steel, with felt pads to keep the rattle down. I didn't use the supplied straps, although there are grooves in the enclosure that looks like will support their use just fine. The unit fits perfectly in that location. It was easy to mount and run the wiring for the power under the driver's side trim, and the speaker wires under the carpet, under the center console, and then up to the head unit. Nowhere in the catalog did it describe that you'd have to either solder RCA plugs, or buy some as accessories. Crutchfield should have this included in their manuals, so that their tech people can advise the customer that they'll need the optional accessory if they're going to utilize the RCA plugs on the back of their head-unit. The "Bass Boost" remote control rheostat is pretty cool. It goes up to 11! However, the one that came with mine doesn't work. I had to wiggle the included cord that came with it, and it would only work occasionally. No biggie-it was easy enough to set up on the enclosure, and I won't touch it again.

Pros: Easy to fit, and install. Nice added "thump." Sturdy, and attractive.

Cons: No included RCA plugs. Won't shake the Earth, if that's what you're looking for.

Really Awesome Powered Sub!

Just amazing how much better my audio system sounds with this powered sub. I'm using this with a Pioneer FH-X820BS head unit and Kicker 40CSS654 6 & 1/2 inch speakers in my 2008 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab (Front & Back). Probably the best sounding system I've ever had. I had to remove the crew cab bench seat to secure the Velcro straps to the floor, but well worth the trouble (It was only 4 bolts). Wiring was pretty easy too, no problems.

Pros: Awesome bass!

Cons: None!

Not very pleased

Written by: BrunoB from Atlanta, GA on April 13, 2015

I was pretty disappointed to find that they made the switched power line the length of the ground line rather than the length of the speaker lines. Because of this I just went with "DC offset" switching. (It watches for AC on the speaker inputs.) Ultimately I feel like I have to have the head unit volume up way too high to hear or feel any output from this unit. I soldered the input lines to the rear speaker lines. I have tried both 0º and 180º phases. The bass in the factory system is "just below fair". This unit brings it only to "fair" and only when the volume is at 75%+. I've elected not to install the gain remote because I can't imagine ever using anything but maximum gain.

Pros: Small enough to fit under the driver seat in many cars. (Required that I remove the seat to get it there.)

Cons: The switched power line is only 24 inches long. WHY?

I am no audiophile, Heck, I can barely spell it. This unit works great and sounds incredible. It totally filled out the cab with great bass. The stero sounds 10,000 times better and I have a pretty decent head unti and speakers. Pretty simple to install, thanks to the "second to none" tech service guys. I installed in a 2014 Toyota Tacoma regular cab 4X4. Fit under the seat fine. Like most said, it is not going to shatter windows. But for what I wanted, it was absolutly PERFECT. I had to use the KISL adapter. Make sure you call Crutchfield before you buy so you have all of the parts you need. Fortunatly I did. I only run it up half way. Remote Bass control works like a dream.

Pros: Easy to isntall and set up. Sounds awesome. Firs under seat. Nice bass remote.

Cons: Did not come with a long enough cable to the "DC" turn on feature to hook to the head unit.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2014 WRX hatch. After replacing the head unit with a decent after market upgrade I realized that I needed something a little more. I travel for business and practically live out of my car so space is a premium. Initially I purchased an amp and a JL Audio 6 inch micro-sub in a ported enclosure. As small as it was I still didn't want to give up the space in my hatch. I purchased the Kicker Hideaway with reservations as anyone who knows JL Audio knows that as small as there micro-sub is it really puts out some amazing base and I was afraid that I'd be disappointed. I am happy to say that this little amplified subwoofer far exceeded my expectations. It provides clean, solid bass, was easy to install and fit nicely under my front passenger seat. Out of sight, out of mind! I've had people in my car and many have asked what I was running as my sub and amp and although I'm not looking to rattle my car apart when playing certain tracks it actually vibrates my rearview mirror. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend and ordering through Crutchfield was easy and shipping was fast!

Pros: Easy installation, small compact size and great bass reproduction!

Cons: None as of yet!

I purchased this product for my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It's perfect size for my vehicle, wiring was easy and it compliments my sound pod speakers. Great sound, ease of installation make this a good buy.

Pros: Small Size, ease of Installation, all hardware and wiring included.

Cons: A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Super Bass

I was doubtful that this small sub could be all the bass I wanted. However, much to my surprise and amazement this make my car stero come to life. You're not going to rattle your neighbor's windows, but it sure does make my Jeep Liberty sound better than the Bose system in my G37. I absolutely love this and would highly recommend it.

Pros: Lots of hard hitting bass & adjustable control knob at your fingertips.

Cons: None

Just installed this in my 2001 GMC Sierra (standard cab), fit perfectly behind the drivers seat mounted to the wall. I still have some tweeking to do with the controls and settings on my head unit but allready i am impressed with how much it improved my system. I would definatly recomend this unit for anyone who needs that extra kick but have little to no space to use a traditional sub/amp set up. Perfect for trucks Kenwood KDC352U Head unit Kenwood KAC-M1804 4 channel amp Polk Audio Dxi571 coaxal speakers (rear) Polk Audio Dxi6501 components (doors) Kicker Hideaway powered sub

Pros: Easy to install, small enough to fit in small spaces but still puts out lots of sound and comes with everything you need to install (if wanting to use low level input you will need to get the Kicker KISL rca/speaker level adapter)

Cons: None to speak of....the speaker level input wires and amp turn on wire could be a little longer but not really a big issue

Nice little sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was having trouble deciding between this little sub or using an amp with a sub box. I have an F-150 and did not want to lose the utility of the backseat by putting a big sub box on the floor under the seat. This sub has big sound dispute it's size. It has completely changed my listening experience. I replaced the stock stereo with a kenwood head unit, but left in the stock speakers. While this increased the volume, I was still missing the full sound I was looking for. Let's be honest, this is an 8" sub. If you want a sub that's going to push a ton of air and make you feel like you are at a live rock concert, this is likely not the sub for you. However, if you're after more of the Bose quality bass, which you can hear and feel, then you should consider this sub. It won't pound the back of your seat, but it will fill in the holes for most stock speakers. My head unit has crossover capability... This sub allowed me to limit the bass frequencies going to the stock speakers. My system went from fairly flat (lots of mids) to a full sound with some punch. I installed the sub myself. I used low level RCA connectors. I did not use the volume knob included with the unit because I can control the volume with my head unit. If your going to install using line/speaker level connections, the volume knob is a must. I've only had the sub in for a couple of days, but I'm very satisfied with the bass produced by this Kicker product.

Pros: Compact, solid, clean bass

Cons: Like other reviews, you will need 18 gauge wire for the 12V power. You will likely need The RCA adapter and RCA cables that are not included.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Love the sound that comes out of this sub. My factory speakers were sounding really flat so I replaced them with Kicker 40CS54s and this powered sub. Tuned it and it sounds amazing even when it isn't turned up very much and you have to tune it (I found a nice guide on this site that made it a lot less painful to do). Wiring it was relatively easy and I'm not super savy with electronic wiring. The wires are nice and long to make it to the trunk if needed. It fits beautifully under the front passanger seat of my Ford Escape. And the remote it great for the little tweek when you want a little more or a little less bass.

Pros: Easy to install All in one amp and sub Great sound for size Small enough to fit under seat Customer service is awesome - made sure I had exactly what I needed and walked me through wiring one part when I had problems

Cons: Tuning can be tricky if you don't really know what you are doing

I installed the kicker 11hs8 into my 2015 337 Peterbilt. This thing hits hard! I also installed a JVC KW-V20BT DVD receiver. The combination turned out great. My truck is what you would call a "single cab" and the sub EASILY fills the interior with low-end sound. The JVC head unit has a great equalizer so I can fine tune for amazing sound. Installating the sub was probably a 3 on a scale to 10 for difficulty. The remote power wire is fairly short, BUT, that was nothing that 10ft of 18 GA wire couldn't take care of. The KISL adapter (sold separately) was a little tricky at first, but after trying a few different combinations I got it. If installing one, where the speaker wires come out of the adapter there are 2 blue and 2 gray wires. The wires come out bundled in a square. Blue side by side, and gray side by side, pair the wires from opposing corners, blue w/ gray and blue with gray. I also used rca cables from the head unit to the sub. Much easier to run rca cables than 4 wires. All in all, a great great, product.

Just what I was looking for...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am a professional audio engineer who was looking for some added low end to my after-market system in my Nissan Rogue. One of my main concerns (besides sound) was the attention a sub might bring to thieves especially living in NYC. I also wasn't looking for a trunk rattling, windows shaking sound but a nice clean and beefy low end. This little sub was exactly what I was looking for! I like that It is powered so there is no need for an additional amp and it fits discreetly under my driver's side seat. It is the perfect compliment to my existing Sony deck and Kicker speakers. I am loving the depth that it brings to the various genres of music I listen to. You'll get some nice response in the 40 to 70 Hz range for the 808's and bottom end of hip hop/electronic music and added punch and thickness in the 80-125 Hz range for the driving kick and bass lines of rock or whatever you're into. I listened to Ice T's "High Roller" the other day forgetting how dope that track is and how great it sounds! Followed that up with Tool's "Aenima" and fell in love all over again with their ridiculously tight rhythm section! This little sub has greatly enhanced the musical listening experience in my vehicle! I've only had to push the sub at about 50% to get more than enough bass. If you're looking for a trunk rattler, this might not be what you're looking for. But, if you're looking for more depth and punch in your system, the Kicker 11HS8 will deliver. Very happy so far!

Pros: Packs a whallup in a small box! Self powered - No external amp necessary. Small and discreet - easily hides away undetected. Seems to be pretty well-built. Still early to tell but hopefully will be durable for years to come.

Cons: Nothing that I have seen so far...

I would have gave this sub a four or a five if I didnt have to spend so much time trying to get good sound out of it.I tried to set it up with rca connections. But it didnt work.I could get as much bass out of my door speakers as the sub .So after a couple of calls to tech.I just wired it up to the rear speaker line level. Then the sub came to life.Kicker shouldnt even say that the sub works with the low line setup. So in conclusion.Just wire it up to speaker level.

Pros: Sounds good for it size.

Cons: No real RCA inputs

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I tried to put this in a small SUV that had a JBL Premium Sound System (albeit 10 years old) and found that it did little, if anything, to augment the sound. I spent a total of 4 calls to tech support during the installation and configuration to make sure that I was not overlooking a setting or configuration setting that would have accounted for the lackluster performance without success. I ended up returning the unit as it made no appreciable change to the sound.

Pros: Compact footprint/fit under the passenger front seat and was easily installed and concealed.

Cons: Relatively meek performance.

Bought this product for stock head, may add speakers, new head later....Install is straightforward...fits well under middle of rear seat, facing up....I left few feet of wire so I can change positions, also if you open rear door and set speaker in floor facing out works when truck is parked. Install is straightforward...wire to battery, 4 speaker wires, 1/8" plug in wire for remote gain control knob, this control fit well into housing for 4 wheel drive switch, (mine is 2 wheel drive) sounds great, won't rattle doors, but fills closed cab well and improves existing speakers so I don't know If I need new speakers...would give a 5..should be 4.5, the remote power switch wire (16GA?) is only about 2 feet long...(other wires are good length)...was disappointed that I had to drive into town next day for wire to make to dash...this wire should be as long as others....

Pros: Sounds great, gain knob is great feature, adds just enough bass for 50 something guy....

Cons: None Really on sound....make remote power switch wire longer....

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. I had replaced my stock radio with an older JVC and my Speakers with Kicker and needed some Bass. The 8' stock sub had died. Not the speaker but the electronic therein. So looking for a replacement that would give me the Bass I needed without eating up the limited space brought me to this sub/amp combo. It fits under the back folding seat with enough space to add a second one if I wanted in the future. It's easily removable for when your in sketchy places. I am 100% satisfied with the performance. It's not going to boom hard enough to vibrated the cars around you but more then enough to Bring the pounding bass inside the jeep. (Yes, Your Jeep will be vibrating with each Pounding Bass note.) Even with a rag top and windows down it's loud enough to drown out all road noise four fold. Example: a fire truck went by me and I could barely hear it over the volume my system puts out now. The additional remote volume is installed when I can reach it. Different bands will require volume adjustment to find that sweet spot and it's easy to adjust. This Sub Combo it loud, booming, compact and invisible. Perfect for your jeep Wrangler. 100% recommend it!

Pros: Loud, booming, compact and invisible when place under a seat. The notes still cut through.

Cons: The con is, I don't need another one, but I wanna buy one anyway! Just because it's friggin' awesome!

I purchased this item to add to my 2004 C5. I was looking for something to fill the bass void. This unit did the trick. it fit in the center comportment and didn't take up any trunk space.

Pros: Unit is compact and easy to mount. Easy to install with the provided wiring. Largest RMS rating on the self powered units at the time i purchased it. It will accept the high and low level inputs.

Cons: wish it had RCA's having to splice the harness is a pain, but at least it will accept the high and low level inputs.

Fits perfect under the back seat of my F-150 super crew. Had a local audio shop do the install about two weeks ago, and it sounds great. I expected the sound of a factory sub you'd find in something like a newer SUV, but I think it sounds much better. Great bass for an 8" sub after a little adjustments on my after market cd player and the amp. Wired remote is very helpful too

Pros: compact, great sound

Pros: Amazing sound, great price.

Cons: blue wire to remote power on stereo harness is much too short. Had to splice another section of 22 gauge wire to reach dash from rear hatch area. Unit did not fit under either front seat in my 04 XTerrra. No Kicker sticker in the box.

Awesome subwoofer!

Written by: R from San Antonio, TX on April 11, 2014

If you read through the over 40 reviews on here, plus the 40 or so on another website, you'll get pretty much the exact same review I'm writing. If you are looking for something to very nicely supplement your stock stereo, this is exactly the product you are looking for. If you think you are going to replicate the sound of a 12 or something w/ a 1000+ watt amp hooked up in your trunk, you will be disappointed. I've had the two 12's with an 1800 watt amp before, but that is not what I needed in my current vehicle; I just wanted something to supplement the stock speakers and after reading all the reviews I decided on this. What an awesome product! First, it's made by Kicker, which of course is a top notch brand when it comes to subwoofers/amplifiers. I have a 2013 Buick LaCrosse and I had it mounted underneath my passenger seat very nicely. This little machine fills my car with very nice bass others have said, and I will reiterate, this isn't going to hit the 20-40hz frequencies very effectively; for one, it's only an 8" subwoofer which aren't going to do that no matter what enclosure/amp combo you use, and two the enclosure is small. But for the 60hz and up bass notes, this thing is perfect. It sounds very crisp and clean. Since I have a newer vehicle I had it professionally installed so I would have a warranty on the installation, but the install guy said it was pretty simple and straight forward.

Pros: The remote bass knob is very convenient and really helps w/ fine tuning the system to your liking. This product is the perfect addition to supplement any stock you those extra bass notes that a stock system normally just does not produce. This little thing will definitely wow you.

Cons: My only knock on the system isn't really a flaw with the product; more a suggestion to Kicker. I would recommend the bass boost control the boost at around 60 hz vs. at 40hz. With this only being an 8" sub, it won't produce the 40hz effectively anyway so I think the bass boost would have a better effect if it was at the 60hz level.

Pros: sounds good and small and compact great space saver

Cons: I have only had it 2 months and damaged the voice coil so not very well built

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed this sub-woofer in my 2001 Super Duty extended cab, with a JVC 50 watt head unit and JVC speakers in the doors backed by boom mats. I am impressed with the improvement in sound quality of my system with the addition of the sub-wwofer, but this thing was a pain to wire up.

Pros: I am very happy with the improvement to the overall sound of my system. Adding the sub-woofer really freed up the amp in the head unit to drive the 4 door speakers to new volume levels.

Cons: When it comes time to wire this into your system, you better have a sense of humor, a lot of butt connectors, and extra wire in a variety of gauges. The only wire in the set that was long enough to reach it's destination was the power wire that goes to the battery. The five wires that go to the head unit and the ground wire were all way too short and had to be spliced to an additional lengths of wire in order to reach their point of termination. Will not fit under any of the front seats of F-250

I had the Sound Ordanance compact powered subwoofer and was not really happy with the overall sound. No matter how I adjusted the sub or my HU, it just always seemed "boomy" and strained. I decided to try the Kicker. Man, what difference. The amp power is nearly the same, but the Kicker sound is much richer, much more natural sounding than the Sound Ordanance sub. Neither one is going to blow the windows out, but that is alright. I wanted a nice, natural bass sound to suppliment my Polk door speakers and the Kicker does just that. The install was easy, except for the low-level input adapter you have to buy. Crutchfield was out of them, but an identical type made by Rockford Fosgate works just fine.

Pros: Compact size, good power, natural sounding, not boomy or strained.

Cons: Have to buy separate adapter to run low-level (RCA) inputs to Kicker.

This sub is perfect for adding to a stock stereo. I tried some of the off-brands and they could not keep up with the stock system in my 2005 Dodge Ram Diesel, even with the gains turned all the way up. The Kicker is the only quality product in this category. It won't shake the neighborhood, but it will rattle your rearview mirror! It's small enough to hide anywhere and super easy to install! Great bass on every type of music - I had to turn the gains and bass boost DOWN it was actually too much bass! I will definitely try more Kicker products in the future! I costs more because it's worth more - not just a piece of junk like the others!

Pros: Easy to install Fits almost anywhere Great Sound Quality Twice as good as any of the other slim woofers!

Cons: Twice the cost of other slim woofers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It works as it should. All I wanted was a little extra bass in my system and this gave me just that. I don't think it puts out a lot of bass but with its size, easy installation and good construction it works great. I have had an 8in bazooka tube in another car and that put out more bass than this. I have it installed in the cabin and I wouldn't recommend installing it in a trunk. After getting the settings right I am pleased with how it sounds. My only complaint would be the remote control. It functions as it should and is well built but for a hideaway sub it is a little flashy. I have it mounted on my center console hidden as much as possible with it still being accessible. However its shape makes it stick out a little, I wanted to keep as stock a look as possible. I know that sounds a little silly but it is my only complaint and it isn't even that big of an issue. So if you are looking to buy this to add a little bass but want to keep your space and look then I recommend this. If you want something that is powerful and can be cranked up loud then I wouldn't recommend it.

Pros: Small, well built, easy to install

Cons: Remote shape is too flashy for a hideaway sub. If keeping a stock look is extremely important then the remote shape might not be what you want.

Great sub for the first year and a half, then one day while listening to my music via iPhone, it just stopped working. Checked every connection and wire and couldn't figure out what happened. I took the back cover off, and the speaker wire on/in the actual speaker broke. I've never beat on this thing to it's full potential for sure. And for the price I was expecting a little more life. I've tried fixing it myself, but any connections I can make can't keep up with the reverberation. Overall, I was happy until it's early death. This may possibly be my first and last kicker product purchased.

I purchased the kicker hideaway for my 2013 F150 supercrew. I am running the stock Microsoft Sync radio with JBL 6x8's front and rear, running off a 4 channel 300 watt alpine amp but the system still lacked bass. I thought the Hideaway would be a great solution and it also had the added benefit of fitting under the passenger front seat and being totally concealed. However, the bass response is very average and it bottoms out very easily. I returned the unit and purchased the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3. What an AMAZING difference!!! The JL sounds absolutely amazing compared to the Hideaway. At first I was trying to avoid having the ported box because I had to put it under the rear seat and that potentially takes up more storage room. But it is actually very concealed and you can always un hook it with the quick disconnects in a snap. The sound that is produced with a monoblock 300watt 4ohm Alpine amp is night and day better then the Hideaway. So, if your in the market for a sub to produce some added bass for your truck I would pass on the Hideaway and go with the JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3. I wish I had listened to my installer and did that from the get go.

Pros: size, concealed, build quality

Cons: rather weak bass response, cost,

This sub, amp combo has to be the best of what it it. It gives comfortable bass-not "shake the paint off your truck" bass. Its easy to stow under a seat. Its also easy to install. Don't buy this with the intent of maxing out all its features and seeing if it will hold up. Its not made for that. Its not for competition either, its for your average guy that wants extra bass and has limited room.

Pros: Takes up little space, easy to install, gives just the right amount of bass

Cons: none really.

Great powered sub for a small truck

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speaker box! You can't really fit anything extra into a small Toyota Tacoma with the standard cab. I looked for quite awhile and there's not much out there that will fit. I was able to slip the Kicker Hideaway under my drivers bench seat and it sounds great! Its not the heart-vibrating bass you'd get from a larger speaker, but the bass is heavy, punchy, and adds a whole new sound dimension to my two other combo speakers. It was easy to install as well as long as you remember to buy the RCA connector/adapter kit and know that you will have to connect the blue wire coming from the subwoofer's harness to the blue and/or blue/white power wires from the head unit's wiring harness. Once you've done that its great!

Pros: Tight sound, small profile, fits in a small truck, good bass enhancement, super easy installation.

Cons: Short leads for remote-power on, requires some clearance (totally normal)

very satisfied

I am very happy with this unit. I added it to my 2002 Silverado 1500HD to supplement the weak low end of my system (consisting of a Kenwood KDC-BT755HD head unit and 4 Kenwood KFC-1664S 6 1/4 inch speakers). The HS8 rounded out the system quite nicely. Sounds clean and powerful. Installation was straight forward.

Pros: Great sound. Compact package. Adjustable crossover frequency (I set mine to 120Hz).

Cons: Only one minor complaint: except for the power leads, the rest of the leads were too short to reach my head unit from the back seat mounting location. The remote on/off wire was the shortest and would require extension in any installation where you want to use that feature (that is the preferred hookup to automatically turn off the amp when ignition is off).

I have a 2007 f150, and the sound was decent but after replacing the head unit, speakers and adding this subwoofer it sounds epic! I went to a different retailer to see how much they would hook me up with some bass in my truck for, the guy basically lied to me and said I need all custom boxes, etc and it would be 1100 dollars... lol... So instead I just bought this.. and its all the bass I need plus some. It wont rattle the whole block but its definitely loud enough for many cars to hear you at stoplights (if thats your thing... i turn mine down when im at a stop so no1 else has to listen to my super bass) It was cheap, it is built like a rock, it sounds amazing, easy to install, i love the little remote bass control knob too, makes it really easy to adjust your bass on the fly. If you want your sound in your car to sound much fuller with nice lows then get this, I love it so much, kicker is a great brand and so is alpine imo.

Pros: Cheap, Built Well, Easy Install, Good functions, sounds great, doesnt take up any room at all.

Cons: Isnt free. Doesnt cause earthquakes?

Solid little sub

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a nice solid little sub that will fit just about anywhere. It is well built in a metal enclosure and comes with almost everything for a pain free installation. It fits nicely under the drivers seat (or passenger seat) in my Jeep and adds the badly needed low frequencies that are missing from the dash & roll bar speakers. My only minor issue with the sub is that the ground wire and remote power on wire are too short and I had to splice in another wire to reach my connection points. Other than that I'm really happy with it and how it performs. It is a little pricey, but well worth it when you consider how small it is.

Pros: Small, can fit almost anywhere; solidly built; thumps good for its size

Cons: Ground wire and remote power on wires are too short

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Originally bought the sound ordnance, however, after getting an extremely loud popping noise when turning my car on or off I decided to give the kicker a try. This thing truly sounds amazing. The sound ordnance produced higher bass notes fairly well but could not hit low notes found in rap. All I can say is that the sound coming from this unit sounds much BIGGER than that of the sound ordnance.

Pros: Huge sound, deep bass, no turn on pop like the sound ordnance

Cons: Pricey, but worth it

Lasts for maybe a month

This would get a five star review, it sounds amazing! I got this as a gift with the prepaid installation card. It fits perfectly under the rear seat of my'02 Avalanche. The installation people came to my house to install it; didn't have to leave the driveway! The sub worked great for about six months, then decided it wasn't going to power up anymore. Contacted the installer, they checked and verified it wasn't an installation issue, then contacted Crutchfield who had it swapped out right away. Went about two weeks, then it started making this funny rattling/crackle noise. Contacted Crutchfield again, and was told that we'd blown the sub! Crutchfield was good enough to swap it out for us anyway. The third sub lasted for about a month and it started the rattle/crackle again. Crutchfield swapped it again, and told us to turn all the volume knobs on the sub down and leave it low for two weeks before turning it up. We left it for three weeks at the low level, then put it back to how the installer had the knobs configured. A month later, we're getting the rattle/crackle again! Three days past warranty now, Crutchfield is good enough to swap it out (this will be #5), but it should last longer and not blow when listening at normal (able to comfortably converse over it) volumes.

Pros: Amazing sound, fits perfectly under a seat

Cons: Unreliable and apparently very easy to blow at normal volumes.

This little sub was perfect for my needs. I've had 2 JL 12"'s in the trunk before and just didn't feel like dealing with that this time around. Living in CO you need your trunk space for camping and skiing gear. I mounted this under the passenger seat of my car and it produces a ton of clean, tight bass. A friend has the Sound Ordnance sub that is similar to this Kicker. I was a bit hesitant to spend the extra $ at first but I wasn't all that impressed with the Sound Ordnance. The Kicker kills the Sound Ordnance in every aspect. The sound out of the Kicker is much louder and cleaner. I wasn't expecting this thing to put out as much bass as it does. Yes, it's not the same as two 12"s with 500 watts each but I wasn't expecting it to be. One thing that might help some people out: The way the instructions read is that the remote bass control overrides the gain on the box itself. To me, I read this that once the remote was plugged in the gain on the box didn't matter so Ieft the gain on the sub all the way down. Come to find out that you should turn the gain all the way up on the box and then use the remote. Originally I couldn't figure out why the sub was barely firing. Once I figured this out all was good.

Pros: Fit's anywhere, great sound, most of the wiring is included

Cons: Using RCA's means buying an adapter, the X-over on the sub can't be disabled

Simple to install and compact; yet not shy to produce deep bass

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I had received this powered sub about two days ago and just installed it temporarily on my 2012 Mazda5 as I needed to free up the trunk space. Previously had installed 10" Kicker CVT driven by JL 250W mono amp. I was on the fence about getting the Sound Ordinance over the Kicker due to price difference but what made me go with Kicker instead was the reviews. Anyway, just installed it (wires everywhere since it's just temporary) to test the bass. I was surprised by the deep bass that it produces and compactness of the design; though slightly thicker than Sound Ordinance; Kicker probably gave it a slighter bigger enclosure to produce a better bass with the 8" sub. I have mounted underneath the driver's seat since the passenger's seat is already occupied by the Alpine MRF300 4 channel amp. I just ran the RCA from the Kicker to Alpine for line level inputs. It was very simple. Thing that I like about this setup is that now even with fade to front or rear, I get the same bass response from the sub; not like the setup I had before where the high-level inputs were tapped from the rear speakers. I am happy so far and the best part is now I freed up the trunk to carry ski boots, yeah!

Pros: Compact sound, quality, and best of all, it's a Kicker!

Cons: None

Had unit installed professionally and it was blown. With just a moderate increase in bass it started to vibrate & rattle and further increase in bass produced a severe bass distortion. Crutchfield representative was very helpful and immediately replaced with an "open stock" unit, very professional & focused on customer care. Customer service rates a "5"

Pros: Compact, fit under back seat of Quad Cab Dodge Dakota pickup

Cons: Needs a connector sold separately to install and needs to be flagged on processing of order to make sure it's not overlooked

I have seen some reviews of this sub on other sites that claim it is weak, don't expect it to shake your mirrors, feel the bass, etc. All I can say is: either these people can't hook up an amp and sub correctly or they put it at the back of Ford Excursion or full size van! This thing is insane... I wanted a little bass to fill out the stock speakers in my Chevy Silverado extended cab. The stock speakers had NO bass at all... I had no room to put in 10" or 12" subs behind the back seat and I really didn't want a big box under it with downfiring subs either. I wanted someone to look inside the truck and not see that anything that did not appear stock. I picked up one of these Kicker Hideaways after reading mixed reviews and got it installed. Let me tell you... I was stunned! I have the gain turned up to 3 (it goes to 11) and this thing shakes my mirrors so hard that I can't use them to see traffic! I listen to mostly rock and metal and it sounds killer... but just to see what it could really do, I put some rap on my iPod and cranked the gain up to 8. You could audibly hear the bass inside my neighbor's bedroom while my truck was on my driveway (I know this because it was 10pm and he came outside to see where the noise was coming from)! This sub is perfect for anyone who wants to add serious bass to their vehicle and ideal for trucks with no room for a traditional box and woofers. If you are considering purchasing this puppy, go for it!

Pros: Deep bass, Compact Design, Molex Plug makes hooking it up a breeze, Remote Gain Control switch

Cons: RCA Adapter required to hook up to aftermarket stereo with low-level outputs (still easy to do, just wish it came with the sub)

I wanted to add bass in my 2 door Jeep Wrangler without losing any space in the back. I came across the Kicker Hideaway and thought I would give it a shot based on brand name quality. When I received the sub from Crutchfield, I almost returned it without even installing it. It was so small that I thought that there was no way it would give quality bass that I was looking for. I decided to try it and if I didn't like it I would return it. Installation was very easy. I removed my front drivers seat and attached the velcro straps to the floor with self tapping screws. I then ran the speaker wires to the rear of my deck, running at hi level and tapping into my front speakers. I hear a lot of people tap off the rears but I tend to fade more to the front of my Jeep for proper sound stage. I mounted the remote gain knob just to the right of the steering column on the knee kick. My buddy that did most of the install used to be in the car audio business for over 20 years. He noticed how small the power wire was that came with the Kicker and decided to attach it to the power line on my Alpine MRP -F300 amp instead of running it though the firewall to the battery. Worked perfect! After we put the seat back in it was time to hear what it sounded like. All I can say is, wow! It sounds great, not boomy, just nice tight bass. I listen to classic rock (Floyd, Stones, Who, etc...) and i didn't want that "shake the car next to you" bass. Highly recommended!

Pros: Size, can be hidden almost anywhere. Tight bass not boomy! easy install Kicker quality

Cons: A little pricey

Does just what it's supposed to, for a small under-seat sub at its price point. This was installed under the passenger seat in a 2009 Toyota Camry. Because both the sub and the head unit (a kenwood DDX719, also purchased from Crutchfield) had level controls, the installer elected not to use the sub's "boost" control and I instead use the sub level settings on the radio instead. Given its size, the base is suprisingly deep and tight. I haven't played with crossover points. Can be set to shake the windows if that's your thing. It WILL vibrate your seat (both the passenger and driver seats). Very happy with my purchase.

Pros: Surprisingly deep bass, adjustable, easy install.

Cons: Vibrates the seats. No other negatives.

This powered sub delivers on its promise. I knew that I was not going to get earth shattering bass out of this sub, but it still exceeded my expectations. I was just looking to enhance my factory sound, but the amount of low end this little box produces is amazing. It compares with other larger powered enclosures I bought in the past (MTX Thunderform for one). Easy install on my 2012 F150 Supercrew. No remote turn-on needed. Just splice in to your rear speakers, run the power wire to your battery, and ground it to the back seat mounting bolt. Thanks to Eli for recommending it to me.

Pros: Great sound in a little package. Easy install. Looks great too.

Cons: None so far.

I originally got this piece to replace my 10'inch 400W - 2ohm Kicker S3 Ported Box in my Nissan Xterra (2006 S) because I wanted my room back. With that said, I wasn't expecting much but man was I wrong. I am not a bass head - I don't want throbbing base to shake everything. I want a nice, clean sound out of my system that is even and tuned correctly. With this I got it. The sub hits hard at loud volumes, and for the most part the mids and low bass tones come out clear. Some of the higher tones come in weak, but very rarely do I notice it. Now for my experience with Crutchfield. I originally got my sub and a mini amp (4 channel Rocksford) at the same time, in the same package. When I got the sub I started the installation and realized the remote was missing from the package. With that said I called Crutchfield, and within literally 5 minutes they were overnighting me the remote along with the cable (which I had, but they decided to give me another for my trouble) and the straps (one of them were missing). I was shocked this happened, but the box WAS sealed in plastic so THIS WAS NOT Crutchfields fault, but the fault of Kicker. No biggie, still sounds great and I think the customer service from Crutchfield was amazing.

Pros: Great sound, fits in small spaces. Hits hard for a little bass with 150watts

Cons: Nothing so far - the high bass notes could be a little more amplified, but what can you do. It is only 150w.

Incredible Sub!

Written by: DaveG from TX on August 20, 2012

WOW! I just received it Friday and had it professionally installed underneath the passenger seat on Sat. I have a 2012 Subaru WRX. They charged $100 labor and it took them about 1.5hrs. This subwoofer sounds abdolutely incredible. It really enriches the overall sound and if you turn up the gain all the way it will "thump" the inside of your car. Now it won't rattle your whole car like those enormous boxed subwoofers in the trunk will, but that's not really a faair comparison. One thing you will notice is how heavy this thing is! Once I took it out of the package I knew it was going to be a good product. The value is A+ since it already has a built in amp. My other car is a 2003 WRX that has the factory sub underneath the passenger car. I had thought about getting it but they wanted $250 for it. The extra $ i spent for this Kicker was WELL WORTH it. There is no comparison between the two. The Kicker probably has 2-3 times the bass of the factory sub. The other nice feature is the remote bass controller. The factory sub on my 2003 WRX doesn't have that. I have to manually adjust it on the sub with a screwdriver which is a pain. the installer went one step further on my 2012 WRX and mounted the control knob for the bass controller underneath my center console so the knob is flush with the seat heater controls. I can't say enough good things about this subwoofer. Well worth the money. I gues only time will tell the reliability aspect of it.

Pros: Awesome bass, very compact, a lot of product for the $$$$, very solid and heavy piece of equipment

Cons: None

Installed in an Extended Cab Chevy Colorado. My original plan was to install a subwoofer in-between the two jump seats in the back of the cab, but I discovered that I could fit the subwoofer underneath one of the jump seats and it fits perfectly. All I had to do was remove the little plastic toolbox under the seat by undoing a couple of bolts. I then used one of bolts to secure the ground. I previously installed 4 Kicker speakers, which is a part of the reason I picked this sub. The sub rounds out the listening experience and I cannot be happier about how the whole system sounds now. I researched a lot of different options, including building a box, but I'm glad I went with this. If your Head Unit uses RCA jacks, make sure you get the suggested adapter listed in the "Details" tab (or get whatever you need).

Pros: *sounds good *solid construction *good solution for a small truck *didn't have to give up space (like a back seat)

Cons: *none

This is a very nice powered sub for your vehicle. The unit provides nice bass addition to factory systems without feeling overbearing. For those who would like to add a touch more bass in their system should seriously consider this unit. The units comes with speaker level inputs, so tapping into rear shelf speakers is a snap to provide the audio source for the unit.

Pros: Small package, good bass levels, and easy installation.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put this in a 07 civic coupe. It fits under the seat with the seat bottom at the lowest position. The case is anodized aluminum and built like a tank. Very solid and compact. I was surprised by the accuracy of the low notes. This is not a one note subwoofer. With some tuning between the controls on the sub and my hu, it has a seamless transition from the highs to lows. Surprisingly good on the punch and accuracy of the notes. I agree with others who were disappointed about the lack of plug and play line level inputs and the way too short remote on wire for under-seat mounting, however, this is not a deal breaker at all for me. If you plan on mounting in the trunk, then these gripes may not even be a concern. The description for this line level hookup is vague and the available adapter is not obviously noted. Ultimately,I just cut up an rca cable and soldered it to the speaker level inputs and put the input switch to on the sub to "Line" and all works fine. I am using with a Kenwood hd952, Infinity in the rear deck and Polk Audio components up front. No seperate amp. Just using the hu amp. The sub has no problem keeping up and has a lot more in reserve. Sounds great with rock, classical, jazz, basically everything I have played on it.

Pros: Compact, great build quality, excellent defined bass

Cons: Not a neighborhood shaker if you are into that, no plug and play line level input, remote amp wire too short for under seat mounting, which is what this sub is mainly. advertised as.

I just finished installed this Kicker power subwoofer in my 2011 Prius (IV). I have the Navigation JBL 8 speakers system and it sound clean, accurate imaging sound stage, the low frequency is just right but lack of the power. This Kicker Hideaway subwoofer fill in that missing deep punch low frequency. Overall I am very satisfied with it thanks to awesome service from Crutchfield. Installation is straight forward, I don't even need to call the support for help. I found most of the needed information from priuschat forum, total time from start to finish took about 2 hours ( I took my time to remove trims and carefully ran the signal wires). The best placement is under the front driver seat, but mine have too little room to fit in, I place the subwoofer on back trunk area behind the seat back. I used the "Hi" input since the factory head unit does not have RCA out, I tapped into the "rear" speaker wires(black connector) which are locate behind the kick panel, I used the Posi-ProductsT Wire Connectors and it's so easy and secure. One good feature on the Kicker Hideaway power subwoofer is the "auto turn on" once it sense the DC current on the input line. I would HIGHLY recommend this product for those Prius owner(s) or others vehicle(s) owners as well, this unit WON'T shake the neighbor's windows or hear from a block away, but it will nicely blend in to your factory sound system that can not be upgrade or replace (some have tied to A/C or body control module).

Pros: Compact, Great Sound, lots of power, ease of installation, blend well with OEM factory sound system, the handy "remote gain control".

Cons: A little pricy but worth it, power ground wire too short.

I originally replaced my front speakers on my 2010 VW GTI with Kickers. It made such an improvement that I decided to replace my rear speakers and add a powered sub (all Kickers). I am seriously impressed with Kickers in general. The powered sub is a little pricy, but it is totally worth the money. Even with just my factory head unit with 4 Kicker coax speakers and this powered sub, my system sounds as good as the Levinson system I had in a prior Lexus. The sub is even better. The remote bass control is very cool too. You will be amazed at what this compact sub will do for the overall sound.

Pros: Great quality sound with more than adequate power; compact design great for tight spaces and smaller cars; great build quality

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My friend and I went in on this together for her husband's birthday. We also purchased the Rockford Fosgate Amp Installation Kit and the Amp InstallCard. In his 2002 Chevy Avalanche, the installer put the sub under the rear seat behind the driver and mounted the rotary dial remote control to the dash just above the driver's right leg. We were originally looking at one of the other "pancake" style powered subs, but just before we ordered this one became available. He's a hip hop DJ by night, so I figured that even though this was a little more expensive, he'd be much happier with it. He also needs to keep the versatility of his truck; other reviews said that the custom-fit boxes would make it so the rear seats couldn't fold down, or would take up space in the bed he needs for his DJ speakers for gigs. Overall, the sound is amazing! Very clear bass, doesn't sound booming, it balances very well with the Kenwood speakers we put in last year (also from Crutchfield). He's very pleased with the results as well. The installer connected it to the subwoofer output on the back of his Sony aftermarket head unit so he has plenty of control. One thing to note - it actually came with enough cables and connectors that the Rockford Fosgate installation kit wasn't needed. Yet another reason to buy from Crutchfield, the call to schedule the return took two minutes.

Pros: Takes up little space, excellent sound, plenty of controls to fine tune the sound.

Cons: Aside from it being too large to mount under one of the front seats in a 2002 Avalanche, none so far.

Overall a great sub considering the size. If tuned properly, this sub can delivery without taking up your entire car. I am just writing this review to warn buyers about 1 specific thing...the description is very ambitious about this sub having preamp inputs but does indicate that it can take them. This would make any normal person assume that the box has preamp inputs but it doesn't. Turns out you have to buy an adapter to be able to input via RCA cables and this was not specified in the item description or detail. If you need preamp inputs, you need an adapter. If you are giving this sub a signal from a speaker line, you should be fine out of the box.

I recently purchased a 2012 Tundra, but was not all that impressed with the factory stereo. I have built several custom box, enormous sub, multi ampifier, systems over the past few years, but decided I wanted to go with something compact so that I did not lose any space inside the cab. I started off with a Infinity Bass Link (I cannot attest to how well it works as it was never hooked up), which was to big to fit under the seat. I called customer service, and returned it for a Kicker Hideaway. I put it into the truck yesterday; it was very easy to tie into the factory stereo and is compact enough to fit just about anywhere you want to put it, Once I got it hooked up and gave it a test run, I could not beleive the amount of sound that comes out of this box that is literally smaller then some amps I have owned. It is not a suwoofer that is gonna be heard from 6 blocks away, but, it delivers nice smooth bass in just the right quantity to make a factory stereo sound like a much bigger system.

Pros: Excellent sound, Very compact size, Easy to hook up, Easy to setup controls, Variety of mounting options with template---would recommend this product to anyone Also, I exchanged a Ininiti Basslink for this unit, as the Basslink was simply to big. I am exceptionally pleased with the customer service I received from Crutchfield. No kidding, 5 minuters on the phone, they emailed me a new shipping label, 6 days later I had the Kicker.. I wish all Customer Service was this good

Cons: I have NO negative feeback, the product is awesome, as is the Crutchfield Customer Service.

Easy installation, but could have used longer speaker leads. Not having to use the remote turn is a real plus, one less wire to run. I went ahead and installed two behind rear seats of my 2012 F-150 SuperCrew, spliced the high level inputs to the rear speakers. Overall, sound is nice and fills the need for bass that the 5x7's can't handle. It can get pretty darn low if you want and it hits decent. People will think you have much bigger subs than you really do, once you show them, they won't believe it.

Pros: Size No need for remote turn on Sound for the size

Cons: Needs longer speaker leads and RCA's for those wanting to use low level inputs.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It makes just enough bass to be heard over the other components, but don't expect it to shake your windows, or hear it outside the car. This is the perfect solution to add the lows your car is missing without sacrificing any cargo space.

Pros: It's tiny compared to just about anything else. The subwoofer is only the size of an amplifier! Decent Bass for the size, adds the missing lows that my 6x9's just can't produce, and does it loud enough to be heard over the rest if you desire. Remote bass control allows me to adjust on the fly, I really like that. Comes with Velcro straps, I was able to rig them so I didn't need to drill any mounting holes (This was a big plus for me, hate drilling into my car)

Cons: Could have gotten 10-20% more bass for half the price with a Bazooka powered 8" tube. (But wouldn't have been able to fit it in my car) Remote turn on wire should have been longer (Was only about 2 foot, I had to extend it) No RCA inputs, you need to either splice in RCA cables to the input lines, or buy a Kicker adapter for that purpose.

I purchased this compact Kicker 11H58 for my 2006 Chrysler Sebring convertible. It is just what the doctor ordered! I have a Kenwood KDC-X395 CD Receiver with Boston Acoustics SE95 6" x 9" Speakers in the rear quarter panel and Boston Acoustics SE65RC 6.5" Speakers in the front doors. While it sounded good, it was lacking in low-end. While the Kicker 11H58 will not shatter any windows, it's compact size allowed me to remove the front passenger seat and install it under it. Having the sub woofer right in the car, it provides just enough low end to enhance the other components already installed.

Pros: Compact size, easy installation, adjustable remote bass level.

Cons: Should have included the Kicker adapter for low level input. This had to be purchased seperately.

Remote Control: The wired remote puts output level control within easy reach. The remote comes with a bracket to mount it under the dash. The included 20' cable, with a 3.5mm mini-plug on each end, connects the remote to the amplifier.

Note: The Remote Bass Control measures approximately 2-1/4" wide x 1-1/4" high x 1.75" deep (3" deep including the knob and cable).

Subsonic Filter: Frequencies that cannot be reproduced by the subwoofer do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations causing distortion; these frequencies also waste amplifier power and can damage speakers. The subsonic filter removes inaudible frequencies to improve the performance of the speakers by eliminating this harmful distortion. The 24 dB/octave subsonic filter's crossover point is 25 Hz.

Mounting: The subwoofer, with its 3-1/4" height, can be mounted in applications with limited space, even under a seat in the passenger compartment of many vehicles.

Auto Turn-on: two position switch

  • +12V: amp turns on when 12 volts is applied to the remote turn-on wire
  • DC: amp turns on when a signal is present on the speaker-level input

Input Level: two position switch

  • Hi: accepts signal input from 250mV to 10 volts
  • Lo: accepts signal input from 125mV to 5 volts

Phase: two position switch; set the subwoofer phase to 0° or 180°

Bass Boost: rotary dial to adjust the bass boost; continuously variable from 0 to 6 dB; boost centered at 40 Hz

Crossover Frequency: rotary dial to control the low pass crossover frequency; 50 to 120 Hz

Gain: rotary dial to set the amplifier gain control; 250mV to 10 volts for speaker level inputs and 125mV to 5 volts for line level inputs

Harness: The Quick-Connect harness has wires for power (17-1/2 feet), ground (2 feet), remote turn-on (2 feet), and signal input (8 feet). If using a speaker level input, just splice into the wire in the harness. If using a line level input, the KiSL speaker wire to RCA adapter is needed (item number 206KiSL, sold separately). The included in-line fuse holder should be added to the power wire at the battery location.

Remote Bass: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included wired remote

Fuse: one 10-amp ATO fuse installed in the chassis

Why did you buy this?

Have a friend who owns one. Great sound in a small package. Takes very little space. [ Michel  Feb 02, 2016 ]
I'm not expert on audiophile, I just consider several factors: compact size to fit underneath of seat, decent low frequency reproducer, enough power consumption but not hurting my car battery. I'm expecting down to 30-35 Hz sensitivity, 80-100 Watts power, and small size, this unit is right fit. This unit has very high customer reviews and thumb ups, let's see what is happening to me, cannot wait for it. [ Baofeng  Jan 08, 2016 ]
Installing in a 97 Honda Del Sol, where space is precious. It had great reviews and I liked the fact that Kicker already helped out with mounting options. [ Paul  Jan 02, 2016 ]
Low frequency response. [ Theodore  Dec 22, 2015 ]
good reviews [ John  Dec 15, 2015 ]
Crutchfield advisor recommended for F-150, quality sound & compact application [ Bradley  Dec 13, 2015 ]
needed a subwoofer to round out the sound system. It's small in size, but big in sound. Have had this unit for almost two years now, have had NO problems with it, everybody that has ridden in my vehicle say that I have a kick ass sound system. [ Douglas  Dec 08, 2015 ]
Was suggested by Brit the sales rep that helped me with my order. [ Timothy  Dec 03, 2015 ]

I called and spoke to our rep at Kicker and was informed this model features their "Class DIC" amplifier. It's very similar to their "Direct Amp Technology" found in their compact car amplifier models: I hope that helps! My Bio: [ Ryan  May 20, 2016 ]  Staff
You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you. [ Kenny  May 02, 2016 ]  Staff

There aren't any sound processors we carry that would work without also adding an aftermarket amp to your system. That said, I think adding a processor and upgrading the factory speakers in your car and then adding a new amp to power them would be the best option for getting an upgrade in full-range sound quality. You can view a full selection of the sound processors we carry on our website here: I hope that helps. My Bio: [ Larry  Feb 17, 2016 ]  Staff
Series wiring lets you configure multiple woofers to one amplifier at an acceptable impedance. Since the Kicker 11HS8 is a powered subwoofer with an amplifier built-in, there wouldn't be any way to wire 2 of them together in series wiring. My Bio: [ Larry  Jan 20, 2016 ]  Staff
This won't do it for loud and distortion-less, you'll need to go to a 12" in an enclosure. This will just round out a lackluster bottom end. This will distort once you turn it up to impress friends. [ Dennis Craig  Dec 17, 2015 ]
This thing has crazy bass for it's size. It has a wide range of adjustment - supplements the other speakers for well rounded sound and can be cranked up to produce major bass without distortion or popping. You really must use the wired/remote level control that comes with it for adjustability. My specific case is that it is mounted under the passenger seat - the vibration can be a bit much for a long ride - so mounting elsewhere is probably better anyway. [ Byron  Dec 14, 2015 ]
The hideaway is not for rattling the car doors of people next to you in traffic but it does add some very nice low end and punch at moderate volume levels. Never had it extremely loud but it seems to handle pretty loud levels with no problem. Really happy with mine-sounds great and was very easy to install. [ BRION D  Dec 11, 2015 ]
Brett, I have a 2006 Ram Quad Cab, speaker is in middle of and under rear seat, facing up. Does not take up too much room. This speaker will enhance the door speakers (midranges even) and add base of course, or seems to for me, has a knob installed in dash that controls how much base you want. I am happy with it, however, it will not rattle the windows if that is what you are asking. Try one or two if needed. Hope this helps. [ KEN  Dec 10, 2015 ]
I have mine under the rear seat of a 2012 4 door F150. Fits in same spot as factory sub. No problem. Fills in the low end range great for a full sound, but I would not say that it does great with really low frequency. More of a tight bass for country/rock. May not be the best for rap music, speaker will start to bottom out. [ Keith  Dec 10, 2015 ]
As long as you don't turn it up very loud, you should be okay. Had two of these and both failed. Aluminum surrounding the speaker works hardens and cracks. [ William  Dec 06, 2015 ]
I recommend you place it under your driver's seat. I have one under my wife's front seat (2011 camry) and under both front seats in my car (2013 subaru wrx) and it fills in the low end nicely. I feel if you install in the trunk you will be disappointed. If the trunk is your only option take a look at Rockford Fosgate Punch P300-10Single 10" subwoofer enclosure with 300-watt amp Item #: 575P30010 [ HENRY C  Dec 05, 2015 ]
It add some nice bass to a factory system but if you're looking for real bass "punch" you'd probably be happier with something a bit more performance oriented. Hope this helps. [ DAVID  Dec 03, 2015 ]
Seth, I installed this kicker in my pick-up. It has great sound and I rarely if ever turn it all the way up. Combined with the 4 Polks I have it's a great mix. I don't think you would really need a second one. Hope that helps answer your question, and yes I do like my music loud and not distorted. [ PAUL  Nov 20, 2015 ]
No need for two. Try just one if you are looking for boost of the bass. It is a good unit. You can always add one more afterward if you consider placement of the first one with that in mind. I have had this unit for 2 years with no issues. It is a dependable unit with good boost of factory bass. [ WESLEY  Nov 18, 2015 ]
I've got one in a 2004 Chevy Avalanche, with a Kenwood headunit and speaker upgrades, plus in a 2015 Kia Soul with the factory radio and speakers. It works GREAT in both. You don't need two. To me it would be too boomy. [ Douglas  Nov 18, 2015 ]
I am only using one, but it is in a '53 F100 truck. I am completely satisfied with it and the performance is way beyond my expectations. If you are installing it in a full size vehicle or extended cab, you may want a second unit, but I would try a single first. The performance is amazing. [ R E  Nov 18, 2015 ]
Kicker makes the KISL Audio Interconnect cable that you attach to the speaker wire input cables that come with this amp which allow you to connect it to preamp outputs on a radio. [ Paul  Nov 09, 2015 ]  Staff

Kevin, yes you can use the preouts RCA's for the signal to the Kicker subwoofer. I've done this with two different headunits in two different vehicles. It works great! Just use very good cables and you'll will be amaze at the sound coming out. No problem [ Douglas  Aug 21, 2015 ]
You have 2 choices that I know of. 1 - pull the unit out and check the back to see if there is RCA jacks for SUB. Being a stock unit I doubt it as its all probably done with a plug in harness. In which case... The 5.0 system should already be feeding a separate sub somewhere in the truck. Track that down and take the wires feeding the sub, disconnect them and feed them to the new sub. Run the hot wire directly from the battery, including the ground. That way you have a solid connection and not hurt the sub. Plus, to me, it's just safer to do it this way. I've done two like this and have never had a problem. [ Douglas  Nov 18, 2015 ]
Absolutely run the power wire directly to the battery, including the ground. You'll have less problems and feedback doing it this way. [ Douglas  Aug 21, 2015 ]
Yes, and it comes with a hot wire with inline fuse to connect to your battery. [ ADAM B  May 28, 2015 ]
It does need a fused power wire from the battery +. [ ALIKSANDER  May 23, 2015 ]
Sorry for dealy in answering but I direct connected the power to the battery as it draws alot of current and it works great in a small vehicle. I am going to be reinstalling mine in a 2015 rogue i hope.I hope you injoy and that we could help. [ John  May 22, 2015 ]
Power from the head unit works fine - [ KRAG  May 22, 2015 ]
Yes. It come with it [ GORDON K  May 21, 2015 ]
The unit provides you with a power wire that extends from it's provided wiring harness. On the power wire a fuse is provided. You will need to run the power wire directly to the battery terminal to draw enough power. [ Julia  May 21, 2015 ]
Battery leads are recommended . This small sub kicks some serious butt. It's perfect [ HAROLD  May 21, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Yes you will need to use the Kicker KISL adapter to install this subwoofer to an aftermarket stereo. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. [ Krissy  Mar 02, 2015 ]  Staff
I have the subwoofer in the cargo area of a 2015 Kia Soul. Still have lots of room for items [ Douglas  Aug 21, 2015 ]
Yes it will is very compact [ JUAN  Nov 18, 2014 ]
It's about 3.5" tall. Depending how much clearance you have between the bottom center of the seat to the carpet, it may be a tight fit. Ideally, you want to mount it behind the passenger's seat. I have re-installed it in a 1994 Mazda Miata and space is premium in this car. Only suitable location to mount it was behind the passenger's seat. I believe the 370Z is also two seater? Also, keep in mind that the remote bass control is pretty much useless, you want to ensure that you can adjust the base setting on the right side of the unit to adjust it once in a while. One last thing, pre-amp input does not make this unit come alive. Tapping into high speaker level input is much better, you will get the most out of this powered sub. [ Peter  Nov 18, 2014 ]
Thanks Kevin, a box of the same size is a great idea. [ Mark  Nov 17, 2014 ]
Mark, while I don't know how much room is under your seat, I do know that it fits nicely under my Jeep seat with a little room to spare. The best I can advise you for your situation is to measure the open area under your seat that doesn't have anything blocking where the sub would fit, like electronic modules for power seats/heated seats, seat belts, etc. I also used a box I had laying around that was the same size as the sub, just to see how difficult it would be to actually get something under the seat (like a puzzle box or game box), because you might only be able to get something under the seat from one direction, like from the back seat floor. Hope this was helpful. [ KEVIN  Nov 17, 2014 ]
Thanks Brian! [ Mark  Nov 17, 2014 ]
I don't know about your 370Z but I can tell you that I installed this Kicker behind the passenger seat in my 1991 Mazda Miata with only minor incursion. It sounds great. Good luck. [ BRIAN  Nov 17, 2014 ]
If it helps I put one behind the seat in a Ferrari 328 and under a seat in an 88 911. [ PIERRE  Nov 17, 2014 ]
The Blue wire is the remote turn on wire. You splice it with the blue remote turn on wire on the back of your headunit. This turns the amp on when you turn your stereo on (or start the car). [ Erik  Jun 30, 2015 ]

Yes it should fit And I love the bass from it u will enjoy it [ JUAN  Apr 14, 2014 ]
I don't know, as I don't drive Scion. It does however, fit nicely (snug) under the passenger seat of my 2013 Honda Civic. [ DANIEL R  Apr 14, 2014 ]
Don't know about your car but it its under my old jag which is very low - tight but works great [ KRAG  Apr 14, 2014 ]
Don't buy it! Mine broke already. Spend your money on a custom box with a proper speaker and amp. [ CARL  Apr 14, 2014 ]
