Who needs a powered subwoofer?
To produce bass, you need a sub, an enclosure, and an amplifier, and it can be little tricky to match them all up. For reference, I am a 36 yr old male audiophile with an exceptionally acute ear(not a good thing). Admittedly, I am even harsher on every product I have ever owned than even audiohpihle reviewers. The Foxl Bluetooth speaker that is supposedly audiophile grade, is not. Audioengine 2's that are so highly rated sound about as good as a decent 4" full range driver. They sound tuned for bass, with extremely recessed highs and a full rangey muddling of all frequencies. My giant Deftecs at home I deem as merely adequate for Home theater, but if I listened to music more, I would have gone with Paradigm S8's or some big KEF's. I have a B & W system in my Jag XF that is the best factory system I have ever heard, and the B & W sub will absolutely murder the Kicker. The best car system I have heard is the Focal KRX separates, which are even better than the $2500 Berylium set. Bought this Kicker as a gift for my brother. Let me start by saying I was always a fan of the kicker subs. They were always tight and loud. Not the case for this sub. Not loud at all. Constantly sounds strained. It does go deep, but my advice would be to look elsewhere. I have heard 6 x 9's that would annihilate this thing. Haven't heard any slim boxes that were worth anything, and this doesn't change my mind. For an all-in-one solution, this may fit the bill, but do yourself a favor and listen to one before you buy.

I just installed this in my 2010 ford expedition.so far so good, this thing will rattle your windows! Now they won't hear you coming down the road but inside it sounds amazing. I listen to rock and kids like pop and both sound great! Install was a breeze. You don't need to wire up in stereo, just twist the 2 positives together and 2negatives together. And run your speaker wire to it. I tapped into the rear speaker wire behind deck and set to high on box. I didn't hook the power up wire either, just set box to DC and it will auto turn on when it detects sound. Took about 2 hours to install only because my vehicle is huge and had to hide all wires.
Pros: Sounds amazing!

As a former professional car stereo installer and music lover, I have an "ear" for what I believe sounds good or bad. Even though it has a fairly small footprint, this sub rocks more than I expected. It is unobtrusive in the trunk of my daughter's 2012 Hyundai Accent yet kicks exactly the right amount. The wired bass control is a nice feature that gives plenty of personalization depending on the music or driver preference. Installation was straight forward. My only recommendation for Kicker would be to add another 3 feet of length to the speaker leads and another foot to the ground wire. Also having bullet plugs for the speaker leads near the main connector would help when running wires through the vehicle, so they could be separated from the main harness for an easier run.
Pros: Great sound, plenty of adjustment capability, easy hookup, small footprint.
Cons: Wire length, no o-ring or prong connectors included for power/ground, entire length of wire hardwired to main harness.
Great sub and amp for the price
Purchased one for my GMC Terrain to give some added kick to the stock Pioneer system. This was a good decision because the price can't be beat, the install was easy, and the sub really kicks. I would recommend this package to anyone on a budget needing a subwoofer for their car or suv.
Pros: Easy hookup, great price, very good kick.
Cons: Be careful with the quick disconnect plug. It is a little more fragile than you think. Too easy to pop a wire out the cable.

Amplifier: The power output from the built-in class-D amplifier is 90 watts RMS @ 14.4 volts with no more than 1% THD (100 watts RMS @ 14.4 volts and 10% THD).
Signal Input: The signal input wires on the included harness can be used with a speaker level or line level signal. Standard speaker wire is used in the harness, so an RCA to speaker wire adapter is needed when using a line level signal (item number 20609ZISL, sold separately).
Low Pass Crossover: The amplifier's low pass crossover point is continuously variable from 50 to 120 Hz; the crossover slope is 12 dB per octave.
Subsonic Filter: In addition to the low pass crossover, the PT10 features a 24 dB/octave subsonic filter fixed at 25 Hz. Ultra-low frequencies that cannot be reproduced by a subwoofer do not become sound, but unnecessary oscillations that cause distortion. These frequencies also waste amplifier power and can damage the speaker. The built-in subsonic filter removes the frequencies below 25 Hz to improve the sound quality by eliminating harmful distortion.
Bass Boost: The bass boost circuit provides a variable (0-6 dB) signal boost centered at 40 Hz.
Status Indicator Light: There is a status indicator LED on the control panel on the left side of the enclosure; it lights green to indicate that the amplifier is turned on and operating normally and lights Red to indicate the amplifier's protection circuitry has been activated.
Remote Bass Level Control: The included remote bass level control lets you adjust the output level of the amplifier from anywhere in the vehicle. A 20' cable is included and when it's plugged in, the gain control on the side of the enclosure is bypassed. The remote bass level control can be mounted under the dash with the included mounting hardware, it has the following dimensions:

Controls: All the PT10's controls and connections are located on the left side:
- Auto Turn-On: two position switch; choose +12V (amp turns on when +12 volts is applied to the remote turn-on wire) or DC Offset (amp turns on when a 6 volt surge is detected from a speaker-level source on the signal inputs; in this mode the amp's remote turn-on wire acts as a +12 volt output to turn on another component)
- Input Level: two position switch; choose Hi when using a speaker level input, Lo when using a line level input
- Phase: two position switch, the sub's phase can be easily inverted; 0° or 180°
- Gain: rotary knob; continuously variable from 125mV to 5V when the Input Level switch is set to Lo, 250mV-10V when the Input Level switch is set to Hi
- X-Over Frequency: rotary knob; set the low pass x-over point; continuously variable from 50 Hz to 120 Hz
- Bass Boost: rotary knob; continuously variable from 0 to +6 dB
- Remote Bass: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the included remote bass level control
