About the Kicker 10CVR102

Dominic DeVito
Kicker CompVR subs let you kick out the jams without tearing a hole in your wallet. These subs handle plenty of power, and get their fierce sound from tough, injection-molded polypropylene cones with reliable Santoprene™ surrounds. The unique SoloKon™ cone with its 360-degree back bracing keeps going strong when the bass gets heavy, while perimeter venting in the strong steel basket keeps the voice coils cool for dependable performance.

The 10CVR102 10" sub sports dual 2-ohm voice coils that give you more wiring options when setting up your system. The sub's cool-looking black finish highlights the potent low end you'll hear and feel. Boat owners: Kicker certifies the CompVR subs for marine use, so you can generate some serious bass waves out on the water.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. Most car amplifiers are stable down to 2 ohms in standard mode, or 4 ohms in bridged operation.

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 2 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4 ohm load. In addition, each coil may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 2 ohm load.

Cone Design: The Comp VR's super-rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone features 360-degree back bracing to completely eliminate flex and distortion.

Surround: The optimized ribbed Santoprene surround allows extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL. The surround is double-stitched to the cone to add a mechanical fastener to the chemical adhesives. This prevents the cone and surround from separating in the harshest conditions.

Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The Comp VR features durable Spiralead tinsel leads, which are woven into the woofer's progressive-roll polycotton spider, for added strength and reliability.

Basket and Motor Assembly: The strong steel basket features perimeter venting to help cool the high-temperature voice coil wires and prevent breakdown. The overall motor structure design is based on technology found in Kicker's flagship Solo-Baric line of subwoofers, and allows the sub to handle more power and take more abuse. The high-mass solid pole piece removes potentially damaging heat.

Speaker Terminals: The spring loaded, nickel-plated terminals provide solid connections for speaker wire up to 8 gauge. Single banana plugs and pin connectors will also fit.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Comp VR speakers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speaker very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation.

Enclosure Compatibility

Power Handling: The power handling specifications differ according to the type and size of the enclosure. The power handling specifications assume that both voice coils are in use. Note: Both voice coils in a dual voice coil speaker should always be connected.

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 0.8 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 400 watts RMS (200 watts per voice coil)
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 3.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 1.25 cu/ft; 2" x 10.5" port opening; 20" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)
  • SQ: 1.75 cu/ft; 2.5" x 10.5" port opening; 20" port depth; the woofer can handle up to 300 watts RMS (150 watts per voice coil)

Q
I just bought this sub and would like to know how to connect it to a amplifier at 2ohm? Thank you

Mine was installed as a 4ohm setup. If your installing 2 and they are at 4ohm just wire them in series and they will be at 2 ohm. Good luck!

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

Q
Should it be in a sealed or ported box and if it can go in both which one do you think makes it sound better and hit harder in? Thank you for your time.

If you're looking for your this sub woofer to achieve a harder more accurate sound note I would recommend going with a seal box. I bought mine in a ported box and I wish I would have gone with the sealed box instead.

I have two of them in a ported box hooked up to a Kicker ZX705.1 which hit pretty hard. You have to decide wether you want a more boomy loud sub or a tight hitting sub. This link might help you http://www.crutchfield.com/S-KhVaJrK7ZOb/learn/sealed-or-ported-subwoofer-enclosures.html If you want a pair of decent subs that will improve most of your music they do the job. However, if you want to hear those really low notes you have to upgrade to something better...I wish I did.

I installed this sub in a factory made ported box from sound ordnance that was within the required cubic feet range. I was blown away by how hard this sub hit and how many levels it hits accurately. To be perfectly honest that set up in the back of my friends 86 bronco is the best 10" sub I've ever herd!

I have it in a ported box and it sounds great, I know I haven't heard it from a sealed point of view but I would totally recommend ported!
christopher  Sep 04, 2014

It can go into either kind of box. I've got 2 in a sealed box and they sound awesome! But for an overall harder hitting sound I'd go with ported.

Is this speaker a shallow mounting sub wondering cause i have a ported ten inch kicker box just it only peaks at 600 n i need one that peaker at 800 n the box is like a slanted truck style box.
rick  Mar 04, 2014
A
Ideally you would want an amp that will provide at least 80% of the rated RMS power of the subwoofer. In this case you would want an amplifier that will provide 320+ watts of RMS power to the subwoofer. For help in selecting the best amp to match with this sub, please contact an Advisor by phone or chat.
