Overview

Our take on the Kicker 11S15L74

Immense bass
Kicker builds the Solo-Baric L7 component subwoofer to deliver state-of-the-art bass. An ultra-rigid cast aluminum basket houses the patented SoloKon™ one-piece square cone to create a speaker that moves lots more air than a comparably sized round sub. The precision-built motor structure won't yield to stress, giving you chest-thumping low end that won't quit when you push your system hard.

Solo-Baric L7 Series 11S15L74 15

Built tough
The Solo-Baric L7 Series 11S15L74 15" subwoofer features an injection-molded polypropylene composite cone that works with a tough Santoprene™ rubber surround to dish out monster bass in a sealed or ported enclosure. Its unusual shape and black finish make a strong style statement, and you can add an optional grille to further enhances its looks. This sub packs dual high-temperature 4-ohm voice coils, giving you the flexibility to build a multiple sub setup or to draw more power from your amp with a low-impedance load.

Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for lower impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible.

One of these single-handedly rattled the entire rear hatch of my 97 ford explorer, glass and all. Huge flex, deep bass. Running 1500 bridged to it and it asks for more. They're rated 1000 watts RMS/2000 watt peak. Ive seen them EAT 3000 watt amps no problem.

NECK AND NECK WITH 6 ROCKFORD FOSGATE 12'S

I had 2 of these in a large slot ported box. I had a memphis mojo 1500rms @ 2ohms and I was running it @ 1ohm so I was getting somewhere around 1500rms to each sub and they took that without a problem! I also had 6 fosgate 12's in a slot ported box and these2 were just as loud. The fosgates had around 2400 rms going to them not sure cant remember exactly what amps I had of them. probably my hifonics 1800rms pushing 2 of them. Not sure of the rest but i was astonished that these 2 could pull that off since. I spent and incredible amount of time putting together the wall of fosgates I had. And not to mention that there was 6 of them!

Pros: Great sound quality, can handle just about any amp u throw at them, rugged

Cons: You cant power these with just any old amp I had some little amp I thru on them just for the hell of it and they wouldnt work at all lol They have a long break in period

Features

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load.

Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional round subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.

Cone Material: The square SoloKon design is a unique one-piece construction, using polypropylene material that moves as a lightweight piston, for improved control. The cone remains rigid, minimizing cone flex and distortion. A rear cone brace integrates into the cone with a continuous contact perimeter weld, which improves strength and resistance to deformation under pressure.

Surround: The tough, flexible Santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Spider: The woofer is equipped with a wide poly-cotton spider which easily handles high cone excursions due to its increased diameter and unique shape.

Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The Solo-Baric L7 utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly. Perimeter venting in the BAM relieves pressure from under the spider, supports linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and motor structure.

Voice Coils: The dual ultra length voice coils sustain enormous cone excursion and provide flexible impedance matching options. The high-temperature Polyimide Film Voice Coil former improves sonic and conducive properties, and prevents thermal-electrical meltdown. The voice coils are rated to 220° Celsius.

UniPlate Construction: The Solo-Baric L7 features a one-piece UniPlate construction with a vented hyper-extended pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation and maximum power handling capability
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux from the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement and responsive low bass
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out and the corresponding damage

Tinsel Lead Wires: The sleeved, high-power tinsel lead wires eliminate broken leads and power loss, due to the common use of insufficient gauge lead wires. The lead wires are terminated with multiple polymer-based strain relieving mechanical fasteners.

Speaker Terminals: The terminals are spring loaded and nickel plated for solid connections with speaker wire up to 10 gauge.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L7 woofers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately two weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Enclosure Compatibility

Recommended Sealed Box Volume:

  • Compact (minimum enclosure volume): 2.0 cubic feet
  • SQ (maximum enclosure volume): 6.0 cubic feet

Recommended Vented Box Volume:

  • Compact: 3.0 cubic feet; 2.5" x 16.25" port opening; 19.5" port length
  • SQ: 6.0 cubic feet; 3.5" x 16.25" port opening; 13.75" port length

Cutout: The woofer will not mount in a standard enclosure with a round cutout. Instead, the woofer must be mounted in an enclosure with a 13.743" x 13.743" square opening.
