About the Kicker 12CX600.5

Buck Pomerantz

Power for your complete system

Leave it to Kicker to come up with a smart way to power up your entire system with one compact amp that'll fit in some tight places. The CX600.5 5-channel amplifier sends 40 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers, plus up to 300 watts RMS to your subwoofer. And they don't cut any corners building this amp, using oversized transistors, special transformers, and a heavy-duty heat sink to bring you reliable power that won't fade when you push your system hard.

And they don't cut any corners building this amp, using oversized transistors, special transformers, and a heavy-duty heat sink to bring you reliable power that won't fade when you push your system hard.

Plenty of control

High- and low-pass filters sculpt the sound so your speakers and subs can sound their best, while a variable bass boost allows you to add some strong kick to the mix. A fixed subsonic filter protects your sub from inaudible, power-devouring frequencies, and you can use an optional wired remote bass level controller to crank the bass up or down from the front seat. Got some nice component speakers up front? You can bridge the front and rear channels into 2-channel mode to drive them with 150 watts each, and still have 300 watts RMS left for your sub.

Vertical mounting

Includes hardware for vertical mounting

Hooks in almost anywhere in almost any position

Kicker uses their Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) to keep this amp's input free from noise or interference, so you'll get a clean signal from almost any system, even a factory radio. Rugged metal end panels provide even more shielding from radiated interference. The CX600.5 also comes with hardware that lets you you mount it vertically, so you can put it in a location that takes up very little floor space and looks ultra-cool.

CEA 2006 Compliant: The Kicker CX600.5's power ratings are measured according to the criteria approved by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging.

Kicker Livin' Loud Certified Power: The amplifier comes with a certificate that indicates the total maximum wattage of the particular amplifier, along with the model number, serial number, and whether the amplifier passed the total harmonic distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, and protection circuit tests.

5-Channel Design: The CX600.5 is made up of three sections, Amp1 (2-channel full range front), Amp2 (2-channel full range rear), and a subwoofer amp (1-channel). The front and rear amps are independently bridgeable, meaning the CX600.5 can be used as a 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel amp. The minimum impedance for each section is 2Ω, 4Ω when bridged.

Power Output:

  • Amp1 and Amp2 (CEA 2006 Compliant): 40 watts x 4 RMS into 4Ω (20-20,000 Hz, <1% THD+N, 14.4 volts)
  • Subwoofer Channel (CEA 2006 Compliant): 150 watts x 1 RMS (25-200 Hz, <1% THD+N, 14.4 volts)
  • Amp1 and Amp2 (2Ω): 75 watts x 4 RMS (20-20,000 Hz, <1% THD+N, 14.4 volts)
  • Amp1 and Amp2 Bridged: 150 watts x 2 RMS into 4Ω (20-20,000 Hz, <1% THD+N, 14.4 volts)
  • Subwoofer Channel (2Ω): 300 watts x 1 RMS into 2Ω (25-200 Hz, <1.5% THD+N, 14.4 volts)

Auto Turn-on: The amp offers two automatic turn-on modes:

  • +12V: connect a wire from the remote turn-on lead from your source unit to the REM terminal on the amplifier; this is the preferred turn-on method
  • DC Offset: turns the amp on when a 6-volt DC offset is detected at the high-level speaker inputs when the source unit is turned on

Vertical Mounting: The amp can be mounted vertically using the included brackets. The vertical dimensions are approximately:

  • Width: 14-3/4"
  • Height: 7-1/4"
  • Depth: 2-3/8"

Signal to Noise Ratio: The S/N under CEA-2006 compliant conditions (1 watt output) is 75 dBA. The S/N at rated power is 95 dB for the full range amps and 90 dB for the subwoofer amp.

Subsonic Filter: The subsonic filter in the subwoofer amp is fixed at 25 Hz and 24 dB per octave.

Controls

Input Level Switch: Set the input level switch to Lo when using preamp level input signals and Hi when using speaker level input signals.

Fader: When your source unit has discrete front and rear outputs, set the fader switch to on. Turn the fader switch off to send a single stereo input to both the front and rear amps.

Front (Amp1):

  • Gain: rotary gain control; continuously variable from 125 mV to 5 V when the Input Level switch is set to Low and 250 mV to 10 V when the Input Level switch is set to High
  • Crossover: high-pass crossover; continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz (can also be turned off, so the output signal is full range); the slope is 12 dB per octave

Rear (Amp2):

  • Gain: rotary gain control; continuously variable from 125 mV to 5 V when the Input Level switch is set to Low and 250 mV to 10 V when the Input Level switch is set to High
  • Crossover: high-pass crossover; continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz (can also be turned off, so the output signal is full range); the slope is 12 dB per octave

Subwoofer:

  • Gain: rotary gain control; continuously variable from 125 mV to 5 V when the Input Level switch is set to Low and 250 mV to 10 V when the Input Level switch is set to High
  • Crossover: low-pass crossover; continuously variable from 50 to 200 Hz (always engaged/cannot be bypassed); the slope is 24 dB per octave
  • Bass Boost: continuously variable from 0 to +12 dB; centered at 40 Hz
  • CXARC Remote Bass Control: the sub output level can be controlled remotely using the optional CXARC wired remote bass control (sold separately)
  • Sub Input: when your source unit has a dedicated subwoofer output, set the sub input switch to Sub; set to Amp2 to get the signal from the rear amp
Connections

Left Side of Amplifier:

  • +12V (power): set screw terminal; will accept bare wire up to 4-gauge
  • REM (remote turn-on): set screw terminal; will accept bare wire up to 8-gauge
  • GND (ground): set screw terminal; will accept bare wire up to 4-gauge
  • Speaker Outputs: terminal strip with five pair of outputs; accepts spade connectors up to 0.325" wide
Note: The Amplifier is not equipped with an internal fuse. An external 80-amp fuse (not included) must be installed on the power wire. If the system has only this amp and a wiring kit is used that includes a fuse with a value other than 80-amps, the original should be replaced with an 80-amp fuse.

Right Side of Amplifier:

  • RCA Inputs: three pair of stereo RCA inputs (Amp1, Amp2, and Sub); also used for speaker level input (up to three of item number 206KiSL needed, sold separately)
  • Remote Bass: 3.5mm mini-jack for use with the optional CXARC wired remote bass level control

Amp Wiring Kit: Kicker recommends using a 4-gauge wiring kit with this amplifier.

Customer Q&A

1 question already asked

Q
What size wire would be most appropriate to run from the amp to the sub, utilizing the full 300W @ 2 ohms? Amp mounted under the front seat of the sedan. Subwoofer Mounted in the trunk. I ask to verify the largest gauge wire that will fit in the amplifier terminals, as they look too small for large gauge wire.
