Kicker's L5 vented enclosures bring together a deadly duo — a Solo-Baric L5 subwoofer and a built-like-a-tank box — to produce powerful bass! The all-wood enclosure with its extra-thick baffle is computer-designed to complement the performance of its L5 sub. Slot-loaded ports enhance low-frequency performance, and gold-plated terminals accept large-gauge speaker wire. The black catalyzed polyurethane coating protects against damage.

The VS12L5 enclosure houses a 12" Solo-Baric L5 square subwoofer. The rugged copolymer cone, Santoprene rubber surround, and heavy-duty steel frame move more air than 12" round subs for bigger, meaner bass. And stand clear once you connect some power to this monster rig — this Solo-Baric 12" L5 enclosure means business! The cool-looking cast aluminum grille is included.

  • 12" Solo-Baric L5 subwoofer
  • rugged vented enclosure — 3/4" Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) covered with rough-textured, black catalyzed polyurethane
  • stylish cast aluminum grille
  • frequency response 20-100 Hz
  • recommended power range 50-600 watts RMS (this assumes the use of an optional 25 Hz subsonic filter with this enclosure)
  • two 2-ohm voice coils are wired in series to one set of 5-way binding posts (4-ohm mono impedance) — will accept banana plugs, dual banana plugs, spade lugs, bare wire or pin connectors
  • sensitivity 87.1 dB
  • 29"W x 14-5/8"H x 12-1/2"D (at top) to 18-3/4"D (at bottom)
  • 1-year warranty

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

Woofer Features

Dual Voice Coils: The woofer has two 2 ohm voice coils that are wired in series so that the woofer presents a 4 ohm mono load.

Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (or Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L5 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.

Cone materials: The copolymer cone has superior internal damping, resulting in ultra-fast transient response and super-low distortion. In addition, the cone is also very resistant to environmental extremes.

Surround: The tough, flexible santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible.

Inverted Structural Dome: The Inverted Structural Dome replaces a conventional dustcap and locks into the cone for unmatched structural integrity and greatly reduced cone flexing/resonance.

Heavy Duty Steel Frame: The heavy duty steel frame provides precision alignment and dependable motor structure support.

Spider: The durable resin-impregnated poly-cotton spider provides precise coil alignment and critical cone motion control.

Voice Coil: The multi-layer voice coil and Kapton former create a superior magnetic field and effectively dissipate heat.

One-Piece Extended Pole: The one-piece extended pole creates a broad, symmetrical magnetic field for superior power handling, precise voice coil control, and very low deep bass distortion. Venting in the pole piece eliminates noise and distortion caused by huge amounts of airflow created by cone excursion.

UniPlate Construction: The UniPlate construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece into a single unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems often caused by two-piece construction.

Black Plating: The black plating on the UniPlate and top plate provides maximum heat dissipation for cool operation and extended voice coil life.

Bumped Back Plate: The deep bumped back plate lets the voice coil reach maximum excursion without bottoming-out.

Perimeter Venting: The perimeter venting cooling system continuously pumps hot air away from the voice coil, replacing it with cool outside air.

Enclosure Features

Box Construction: The box is built from 0.75" thick medium density fiberboard ("MDF") coated with rugged, rough-textured black catalyzed polyurethane.

Embossed Front Panel: The Kicker logo and name are molded into the front of the box.

Five-Way Binding Post Terminals: The box has one set of 5-way binding posts that will accept banana plugs, dual banana plugs, spade lugs, bare wire or pin connectors.

Mounting: For the most effective bass loading in hatchback, trunk or SUV installations, the enclosure should sit on the floor and fire into an unobstructed area.  There should be at least 4" of clear space in front of the vent to maximize performance.

Power Handling Note

Power Handling: The enclosure can handle up to 600 watts RMS (this assumes the use of an optional 25Hz subsonic filter with this enclosure).
