About the Kicker DXA250.4
Power your music
Power your music
Kicker's DXA250.4 4-channel amplifier will reliably produce great-sounding music, delivering 30 watts RMS to each of your speakers from a very compact chassis that'll fit in almost any vehicle. This amp delivers around three times the power of a basic factory system, so you'll add a lot of clarity and punch to your sound. You can also use the front channels on the DXA250.4 to power your front speaker, then bridge the rear channels together to power a subwoofer with 125 watts RMS.
Works with a factory stereo
Kicker's Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) allows you to tap into your vehicle's factory speaker wiring for the amp's input signals without needing a converter. If your car stereo only has one set of preamp outputs, the DXA250.4 can apply the signal to its other channels to achieve 4-channel play. The "differential-balanced" inputs also help prevent audio interference and noise from entering the system.

Tone controls to help get the job done
The DXA250.4 features separate controls for the front and rear channels so it can work with a variety of different speakers or subs. High-pass filters clear out rumble from small speakers so they can play more efficiently, while low-pass filters adjusts the bass frequencies going to your subs, so they'll play cleanly. Bass boosts on the front and rear channels add some extra foundation to the sound if you want.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over the full frequency range of the amp with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels at a reference of 1 watt. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on equal footing. Measured under CEA-2006 conditions the Kicker DXA250.4 is rated at 30 watts RMS x 4 channels into a 4-ohm load and the signal to noise ratio is >95 dB. Additional specs listed in the manual (but not listed as CEA-2006 compliant) include 60 watts RMS x 4 channel into a 2-ohm load (measured using a 14.4 volt power supply with no more than 1% THD+N) and 95 dB signal-to-noise ratio (measured at the rated power output).
Auto Turn-On: There are two ways to automatically turn on the amplifier. Most aftermarket car stereo head units will have a remote turn-on lead, which can be extended to the amplifier location and connected to the amp's Remote terminal. If connecting the amplifier to a factory stereo, or a head unit without a remote turn-on lead, the amp can automatically turn on using the DC Offset mode. The amp detects a 6-volt DC surge on the signal inputs and turns the amplifier on. There is no switch on the amp to select the Turn-On method.
Protection Circuitry: The DXA250.4 has protection circuitry that will turn the amp off in the event of overheating, over voltage (over 16 volt input), under voltage (under 10 volt input), and short circuit (speaker output). If the Protection LED on the right side of the amp illuminates red, the protection circuit has engaged and the amp will not play until the problem is resolved.
Dual Input Sensitivity: The DXA250.4 can receive low- or high-level signals from your car stereo source unit at the amplifier's left and right, RCA inputs. The low-level signal can be sent from the source unit's RCA line-level outputs. In this case, the Input Sensitivity switch on the amp should be set to "LO". A high-level signal can come from the source unit's speaker outputs, and connected to the amplifier using the Kicker KISL adapters. The Input Level switch should be set to "HI".
Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT): FIT utilizes isolated differential inputs, rejecting noise and electrical interference for the quietest operation possible. FIT also allows Kicker amps to accept output from nearly any factory or aftermarket head unit.
Stereo-and-Mono-Simultaneously (SAMS): The amp has the capability of powering a pair of full-range speakers and a mono subwoofer from one amplifier. The full-range can be connected normally on one pair of channels, while the subwoofer (4 ohms) can be powered by bridging the remaining pair of channels. The SAMS wiring diagram can be found in the Owner's Manual.
Controls
Input Level: The The DXA250.4 has a two position (in/out) switch to set the input level type. It can be pressed in for High (for speaker level) or set to out for Low (for line level). You should not mix low and high inputs signals to the amp.
Fader Switch: This 4-channel amplifier can accept signals from one or two sets of inputs. If you are running two sets (front and back), the amp's Fader switch should be pressed in to the ON position. If you want to drive all four channels from one set of inputs, the switch should be left in the OFF position. With the fader Off, the four channels will receive the same volume of signal, and you will not be able to adjust the fader front to back.
Audio Controls: The amplifier has two independent pairs of channels (labeled Amp 1 and Amp 2), each with separate controls. A small screwdriver is needed to set the rotary controls. Amp 1 and Amp 2 have the following controls:
- Gain: The input gain is continuously variable, labeled 0 to 11. The gain range is governed by the input level switch: 250mV to 10V for speaker level (HI) and 125mV to 5V for line level (LO).
- Crossover Frequency: Each crossover can be set for low-pass (LO), high-pass (HI), or full-range operation (OFF). The crossover frequency range is continuously variable between 50 Hz and 200 Hz. The crossover slope is 12 dB per octave. It is possible to set one crossover to low-pass and the other to high-pass.
- KickEQ Bass Boost: The KickEQ bass boost circuit provides a signal boost centered at 40 Hz. The bass boost is continuously variable between 0 and 12dB.
Installation
Wiring Recommendations: Kicker recommends that the amplifier be connected to the vehicle's battery using 8 Gauge power and ground wiring. An external 60 amp fuse should be installed on the power wire within 18" of the battery. There are no fuses included or built into the amplifier.
Kicker Extended Warranty Offer: Kicker will extend the amp's standard warranty by an additional year (for a total warranty of three years) when it is installed with a qualifying Kicker amplifier installation kit. Kicker recommends the PK8, CK8, or ZCK84 wiring kit for this amp. The amplifier and installation kit must be purchased from an authorized Kicker dealer.

This is a great small amp. I picked it because I got the Kicker upgraded speakers from my Subaru dealer. It is a bit of overkill with just door speakers but all works well and it provided the power that the underpowered head unit didn't provide.
