Overview

Our take on the Kicker 41DSC464

As if Kicker wasn't already stiff competition for any affordable car speaker, their DS-Series speakers once again raise the bar. In addition to providing excellent sound, these Kickers offer a thin profile that allows them to fit in more vehicles.

Here's the Kicker

As if Kicker wasn't already stiff competition for any affordable car speaker, their DS-Series speakers once again raise the bar. In addition to providing excellent sound, these Kickers offer a thin profile that allows them to fit in more vehicles.

Solid sound

The 41DSC464 4"x6" speakers will give you clarity like you've never had with your factory speakers. The 2-way design recreates a dynamic sound, dedicating the highs to the PEI domed tweeter while sending the midrange and lows to the 4"x6" polypropylene woofer. The 41DSC464's highly sensitive design conjures hefty volume even from low-powered factory radios, so you can crank your tunes and keep 'em blasting the whole ride.

They are perfect for my truck and i would recommend them to anyone

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This was a great replacement from the factory speakers in my truck. You won't win any speaker comp's with a set of these, but the speakers work very well and are a great upgrade over stock. The high's are good, the low's are good, it's a mid level speaker and does the job very well. This was recommended by a buddy that has the higher end KS series, and Kicker has done a great job with this DS series line!!

Pros: Great speaker for the price, great sound, easy to install. Great mid-level speaker.

Cons: none

I installed the kicker 6.5's in the front and wanted matching speakers for behind the seats. They are just ok. Better than OEM but I probably would go with something different if I had to do it again.

Pros: Price

Cons: Lack of bass but it's a small speaker and I'm not running them through an amp...

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Picked these up to put in the dash of a $500 94 s10 I bought as a work beater. Mated them to a decent kenwood head unit. As usual with Crutchfield, they arrived quickly and with good is instructions and hardware. Speakers are clear but seem very bright. I am going to pick up some 6x9s for behind the seat to even things out and add a little lower end. I would recommend these speakers for the price.

Pros: Good fit. Good quality. Clear sound.

Cons: A little bright. But they are small speakers.

I needed to replace the speakers in my 2007 Kenworth T-800. I was having a hard time figuring out what would fit. So I tried Crutchfield. The advisor looked online (their find what fits feature doesn't include big trucks) he figured out what I needed. The new speakers fit and sound Much better than the stock paper cone speakers they replaced.

Pros: They fit. They sound great. Not to expensive.

Cons: Speakers - none. It was a little work getting the headliner down in my KW but only took about an hour to install the new speakers.

1996 Chevrolet Blazer
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My recently acquired 96 blazer left a lot to be desired when it came to the stereo. I replaced the door speakers and that helped but I was truly surprised how much adding these 4x6 to the dash locations helped. I am after audio quality and not the bass. I have these faded a little until I get my next set of kicker 6.5" and my amp. For those of you wanting to put these in the dash of a comparable blazer, the mounting depth was just barely too deep to sit flush on the driver's side. I used some 5/16" nuts under the speaker to raise the speaker slightly. I also removed the extra plastic from the back side of the grills. I am using a Sony head unit with adjustable high and low pass crossovers built in. I can't say how these would sound on a stock stereo.

Pros: Excellent highs

For the price, you can't go wrong with these. They were a replacement for the dash speakers on my 1994 Suburban, they fir perfectly. They sound great, but due to their size the lows aren't very deep. I'm very happy with them.

I was quite surprised with the sound quality of this speaker. I am not that familiar with car audio, however I can say that I noticed a distinct difference in the sound quality between this speaker and Kicker's "value" line of speakers. Crisp/clean sound is what I wanted and that's what I got.

Pros: Crisp/Clear sound even at high volume

Cons: Certainly needs to be paired with a larger speaker for more bass depth (obviously)

They were relatively easy to install, with plenty of trim bending and teeth grinding on my part, but after I got the in I wasn't very impressed. I bought these because they requested them to me, but the sound pretty tinny and flat. Not much different than the factory speakers. Maybe it's because I don't have a high end stereo. Plus they weren't that expensive.

Excellent speakers for the price. Very happy with my purchase. If you want a good fit you should purchase the speaker baffles, I'm glad I did. I ended up cutting a 2"X 2" hole in the bottom of the baffles so they were ported. In my opinion they sound much better. This is only my opinion though. Crutchfield is the only place I will purchase my car audio from. They are so helpful and will answer any questions you have. AAA+++ on customer service. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bolted a RetroSound RC-900C head unit into my '78 Chevy PU to get an aux jack for iPod. Replaced 5.25" speakers in door kick panels I installed 25 years ago with Polk Audio DX691s - fabulous 6" x 9" 3-way speakers I got at a discount in Crutchfield's "Dents & Scratches" vs the original sticker price. Sound quality was wonderful, but opposite facing speakers produced a narrow sound stage that sounded like it came from the center of the windshield. (Same as with the 5.25s.) Anticipating this, I ran speaker wires to the area behind the seat. Bought the Kicker 4" x 6" speakers to fit into custom enclosures I designed and built that fit into the back corners of the cab behind the seat. 10" tall with a 45°/45°/90° triangular base. The hypotenuse (long side) of the triangle fits against the back of the cab. The speakers angle toward the center of the cab, and a wedge goes all the way back behind the door frame to the very back corner of the cab. Speakers are sealed and baffled with felt over rubber carpet padding - everything made from scrap on hand. Speakers have about 230 cu. in. interior volume - almost exactly the size of a gallon jug. Results: problem solved! Expectations exceeded! Sound stage now expands to feel bigger than the cab. The Kickers are peewees compared to the Polk 6" x 9" speakers, but they sound great and hold their own pumping out plenty of sound. Of course they can't match the low end of the 6x9's, but they don't need to. At the price I paid, they are a steal.

Pros: High quality for the price; For me, the right size for restricted space.

Cons: No protective grille provided - had to improvise my own.

Sound Great. Suggestion for Silverado owners

Written by: TS from Oregon on December 11, 2014

2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

They sound great as loud as I want them, or as low as I want them. FOR SILVERADO OWNERS: The basket on these is as compact as any of the 4x6 speakers, but they will not fit in the space provided in the Silverado standard cab. They are slightly too big, and to install them without cutting the hole bigger (which would be a huge, huge hassle, you would have to just screw them in so tight that the frame would bend, which can't be good for the sound, and you'd have the sides of the cage pressed hard against the body of the car, which also can't be good for sound. Crutchfield really didn't have much to offer, but I had ordered the foam sound baffles for the speakers, and they provided just enough space between the back of the speaker frame and the body of the truck that it worked perfectly. So, make sure you order the baffles.

Pros: Sound great.

Cons: Don't really fit the Silverado, though it seems that nothing else would, either. The baffles act as a spacer, so get those and it will work fine.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these speakers to replace the ones on the old 1998 CHEVY 1500 P/UP, I bought them because of the brand reputation and well the price as well. I removed the factory grille and speakers and also the truck has a bracket for them and I really thought it would be easy and installation would be perfect. For some reason or other they don't seem to fit in correctly, the speaker back end is a bit to big to fit in the bracket housing. Will have to trim the bracket housing to make the speakers fit in flush.

Pros: Great brand and sound and the price is great.

Cons: Had issues with fitting on the truck

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker DS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones for their rigidity and light weight. Polypropylene is also resistant to moisture and high temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. PEI is an acronym for polyetherimide. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Installation: The DSC46 fits many standard 4x6 applications; it will not fit metric 4x6 applications often used in European cars.

Kicker's DS car speakers help you get better sound in your car, even if space is tight in your doors. Their thin profile helps them fit where other speakers can't.
