About the Kicker 40CWRT102

John Pollard

A thin sub with big sub bass

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and even motorcycles in mind. The low-profile 40CWRT102 10” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3-1/2" tall, so your installation options are wide open.

Kicker 40CWRT102

This sub clocks in at less than 3-1/2" deep.

Built with boom in mind

The 40CWRT102 comes equipped with a rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to work with many systems

This sub handles up to 400 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 4- or 1-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures.

Important Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for low impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. You can damage or destroy your amp by exceeding recommended minimum impedance.

Product Research

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Tinsel Leads: CompRT subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed enclosure.

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.4 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 2.0 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2.5" x 20" slot port

Customer Q&A

4 questions already asked

Q
Would a 5 inch deep box be enough room for this sub?

A
O yeah that's plenty of room the top mount depth is only little over 3 inches
clay  Sep 24, 2016
A
Yes it should be. I think it's only about 3.75 inches in width.
francisco  Sep 23, 2016
A
Kickers website lists the mountin depth as 3-7/16". Just watch the airspace of the box.
tim  Sep 23, 2016

It depends on your other measurements, I'm running a .4 cu ft box which is way undersized. It still hits hard but It can't hit as hard as I like since it is over pressurizing.

Q
How does this sub sound at low frequencies versus a CompS 10?. i have a 2010 F150 and a box with .80CF of airspace (under back seat). The CompS sounds good, but at low frequencies it just dies off. (example Ice Cube - It Was a Good Day). Other songs it slams. I am running a PPI 650.1 amp (mono). is it worth it to get this instead since it requires less airspace?

I have this sub (mono) in 2011 f150 supper cab, under the passenger side rear seat in about .78cf box, down fire, running it on an Eclipse za1200 amp. I love it, works great for me at all ranges and levels.

The size and type of your speaker box may be the problem. Not the speaker. A larger ported box will give you long and low sounds. The enclosed box gives you more power (thump). I have the CompRT in a similar box and it can sustain some of the lows. The amp that drives it is a 500 watt RMS. A different type and bigger box is the way to go.

Q
What amp would your recommend for this sub? It's going behind the seat in an 03 silverado. There is a possibility of adding another sub down the line if the one isn't enough so something that could push the two subs eventually would be awesome.

Im using a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D which is a bit of over kill for the two its pushing. I would suggest any amp that gives you 1200 RMS, one speaker pushes out 600 rms.

I have a kicker kx 800.1 driving 2 cwrt102's, they're a good sub I have to admit

I have a tundra with pioneer head unit with factory component speakers. I added 1 kicker 10 inch and a 400 watt kicker amp and it's plenty for a truck. Love it

Q
What is the best amp to run two of these subs at two ohm?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
