Kicker 40CWRT102

Overview

Our take on the Kicker 40CWRT102

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and even motorcycles in mind. The low-profile 40CWRT102 10” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3-1/2" tall, so your installation options are wide open.

A thin sub with big sub bass

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and even motorcycles in mind. The low-profile 40CWRT102 10” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3-1/2" tall, so your installation options are wide open.

Kicker 40CWRT102

This sub clocks in at less than 3-1/2" deep.

Built with boom in mind

The 40CWRT102 comes equipped with a rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to work with many systems

This sub handles up to 400 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 4- or 1-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures.

Important Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for low impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. You can damage or destroy your amp by exceeding recommended minimum impedance.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 300 and 600 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

sounds okay, its kicker. its not top tier in any market. anything you can buy at best by or walmart explains itself. im a memphis fan. but this shallow mount was ideal for my thunderform box. it does an okay job of picking up where my two memphis eights behind the seat leave off

Pros: works in small space

Cons: doesnt have sound quality the better brands have

Got two of these in a sealed downfire enclosure under the rear seat of my Chevy crew cab. Have 900w rms @ 2 ohm pushing them. They sound very good with a nice, crisp response. Would recommend these for anyone wanting subs that can handle a decent wattage amp. Looked at many other slim mount subs and these were my only real option without having to buy a new amp, etc. Been very happy with the decision.

Pros: Great sound, clean look. With the use of Kicker's U Lite (free) app, wiring was a breeze.

Cons: Haven't found any.

Was in the market for a shallow subwoofer for my 2012 Nissan Frontier CC and after so much research I decided to get this Kicker. Love the nice punch I get with the rest of my system. I'm running it at 1 ohm with 350 watts and is great. I'm sure I can get a more powerful amp and really get more kick out of it, but my space restrictions don't allow me.

Pros: Excellent craftsmanship, price, sound

Cons: None for me as it is what I was looking for for my small truck.

Don't let "shallow mount" confuse you....if space is a factor..like below a back seat or behind a back seat of a truck these are the way to go! I use to have 2 12" woofers behind the seat of a single cab S-10 that didn't hit this hard. These subs won't disappoint. I also used the kicker 1200.1 amp- and I can't see from my rear view mirror they hit sooooo hard!

Pros: Mega sound little package

Cons: Kind of expensive to buy an amp to supply enough power

I have two of these subs in a small box underneath my backseat. They are hooked up to a 1600 watt amp.The Subwoofer hits hard at the medium to high bass pitches, but has a low raspy sound for the lower pitches, and yes, I know that 10s aren't supposed to hit that low of pitches, but overall its a good woofer.

Pros: Well built Easy to install Good shallow sub for a small box

Cons: none

2 10s 1000 watt mono kicker dx amp 525 per sub. In custom fiberglass box under back seats ram truck. I was worried about shallow subs.was running full size fosgate p3 12. But kicker subs hit really hard and sounds twice as good. Plenty loud they hit low notes pretty good.I would suggest to any one with limited space.i pound the crap out of them and they handle it very nicely.

Pros: Price, power handling, great sound, depth of speakers for trucks

Cons: So far none

Product Research

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Tinsel Leads: CompRT subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed enclosure.

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.4 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 2.0 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2.5" x 20" slot port

Customer Q&A

Crutchfield asked
Why did you buy this?

Due to reviews [ David  Dec 21, 2015 ]

3 questions already asked

I have this sub (mono) in 2011 f150 supper cab, under the passenger side rear seat in about .78cf box, down fire, running it on an Eclipse za1200 amp. I love it, works great for me at all ranges and levels. [ Glen  May 29, 2015 ]
The size and type of your speaker box may be the problem. Not the speaker. A larger ported box will give you long and low sounds. The enclosed box gives you more power (thump). I have the CompRT in a similar box and it can sustain some of the lows. The amp that drives it is a 500 watt RMS. A different type and bigger box is the way to go. [ PAUL R  May 28, 2015 ]
Im using a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D which is a bit of over kill for the two its pushing. I would suggest any amp that gives you 1200 RMS, one speaker pushes out 600 rms. [ ANDREW  Feb 26, 2015 ]
I have a kicker kx 800.1 driving 2 cwrt102's, they're a good sub I have to admit [ BRIAN  Feb 26, 2015 ]
I have a tundra with pioneer head unit with factory component speakers. I added 1 kicker 10 inch and a 400 watt kicker amp and it's plenty for a truck. Love it [ STEPHEN  Feb 26, 2015 ]
Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system. [ Krissy  Mar 26, 2014 ]  Staff
