If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and even motorcycles in mind. The low-profile 40CWRT672 6-3/4” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3" tall, so your installation options are wide open.
This sub clocks in at less than 3" deep.
The 40CWRT672 comes equipped with a rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.
This sub handles up to 150 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 4- or 1-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This sub sounds great in a sealed enclosure.
Important Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for low impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. You can damage or destroy your amp by exceeding recommended minimum impedance.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 120 and 225 watts RMS at 4 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
Replaced factory sub in a '04 Wrangler. Minor trimming with a Dremmel in the interior of the sub enclosure took about 30 minutes. This sub will sit slightly off center from the original, but was no big deal. I was able to drill new holes and reuse the screws from the factory sub. Great sound!
Great speaker for the money.replaced my stock sub woofer for 2003 jeep. it fits if you grind the plastic behind old speaker and drill new holes. Not too hard.
Pros: price and small size.but has big sound. Good for a jeep.
Great little sub sound is excellent.
Pros: Bought these for great thump Their not boomers. But that's not what I purchased them for .they are exactly what I needed.
Put this in the console of my Jeep Wrangler TJ. Fit was almost perfect. Only thing was the screw holes didn't line up, but extra screws made it fit fine. For such a small compartment, the bass is much improved over the factory.
Excellent little sub. Surprisingly heavy magnet and structure for such a small sub. More output capability than I anticipated.
Pros: Shallow and compact, with BIG sound.
Cons: Haven't found one.
With a little work, the sub fits in the original subwoofer enclosure with a custom spacer I used by cutting the cardboard box that came with the package. So much bass I need to get dynomat now.
Pros: Great sub for the money
Lot of bass in a little package. Installed in an 01 Expedition factory enclosure. Had to dremel the enclosure a little for the sub to fit flush. Sounds great only a few frequencies that this sub doesn't do well. Great add on for a little extra bass to a factory system.
I wanted subs that would be compact enough to fit behind my seats and still leave storage space. These fit the bill nicely and achieved exactly what I hoped they would. The cab space is much the size of a pick-up truck so even though I was a little concerned about the smaller size of these they did not disappoint. They come with a diagram to build enclosures which size wise was perfect for my application. Building the boxes was a bit labor intensive and not for the beginner but for me it was worth the effort since they are not made for my application (Dodge Sprinter). I also purchased wire binding posts (To attach the wiring) from Crutchfield, Item #120TCRB. I also carpeted the boxes and got the carpeting at the local hardware store. The boxes came out nice, fit behind the seats (attached them to the rear firewall) and sound fantastic. I replaced the factory front speakers with JBL 2 ways and am running an older Alpine 5 channel amp (running 4 channels) and wired the Kickers in series per amp requirements. The sound quality is excellent and is about what I expected. I know these speakers could handle more with a separate amp and the Kickers wired parallel but way over the top for me. The clean balanced sound I'm getting is really sweet and can go louder than I can stand with no distortion. I must say the build quality is exceptional and could not be happier.
Pros: Excellent sound and build quality, very compact
Speaker works good. I accidentally ordered a 2ohm DVC instead of 4 ohm DVC so I just wired it in series. Sound seems good so far. Replaced the shallow sub in a BMW z3. Had to modify the speaker box to get it to fit as its about 1/4" bigger than stock size but it worked OK.
Pros: Overall works well. good quality and sound.
Cons: They should include mounting screws
Sounds great. The install on an 04 Jeep Wrangler (w/ sub in console) was painful. I Dremelled, drilled and used "Peel and Seal" from a hardware store to help the console remain sealed after the drilling. After the Dremelling, it will sit off center from the original sub, so you have to decide on how to secure it because the mounting holes no longer line up. The Kicker has 8 mounting holes around the outer ring, and I drilled 5 of those holes and ran bolts through (the other 3 mounting holes will be over the original opening with nothing to screw to.) I also used lock nuts on the back of the bolts, which meant I had to have an opening on the back of the compartment where the sub mounts, I drilled large holes so I could hold the lock nuts with a deep well socket . After I drilled all those holes I needed to close those up, that is where the "Peel and Seal" from Home Depot comes in handy. Needless to say it took me quite awhile to get this thing locked down but it is in securely and it's not going to vibrate itself loose. Glad I did all the work because it sounds great for my needs, classic rock.
Pros: sounds great
Cons: none (other than I am OCD)
This was the better option for replacing the Factory Sub-Woofer that was either blown or just bad quality in my 06 Jeep TJ, rather than the replacement offered by some aftermarket jeep vendors. Was not a direct fit but most of the other reviews on this item clearly spelled out that some minor modification had to be done to the center console. The instruction set could have more clearly spelled out the function of "dual-voice" coils....specifically how to wire dual voice coils....but trial and error and internet search engines helped me over this issue.
Pros: Great Sound
Cons: less-than optimal instructions
Not a ground pounder by no means but it is a surprisingly nice fill in for that little bit of low end bass to round out the music. It can put out a surprising amount of bass but again it does not compare to my JL Audio 10w6.
Pros: Good low end for such a small sub. Fills in most of the lows.
Cons: None really. I didn't expect much out of it but was impressed
Great sound from a smaller sized sub. Fits in my 03 wrangler stock center console with a little cutting behind the sub. Sounds great and easily concealed. Works great with my kicker amp and all kicker speakers
Pros: Sounds good with any music not overwhelming
Cons: Not throat rattling bass
Perfect fit for my Honda Element, had to only drill a few pilot holes to mount. 10 times better than the factory woofer, highly recommend it!
Pros: Easy install, slight modification
The woofer sounds 100 times better than factory woofer. But don't think you are going to rattle the back tire off with the factory radio. Two thumbs up on the woofer. P.s. Had to cut some plastic out of the plastic enclosure, but it was a breeze with a dremel.
Pros: Sounds great!! Very satisfied
Great Small Sub and Dual voice coil is hard to find
Purchased this to replace a blown factory subwoofer in my 2006 Wrangler. I knew that I would need to modify the console to accommodate larger size of this subwoofer, but it was well worth the effort. The subwoofer sounds great, even with the factory amp.
Pros: Great sound, size, price
Bought two of these for the rear deck of my 2004 Pontiac GTO. Wow! These are more than I expected. More bass than I thought a 6.75" could produce. I have 150 watts pushing to each of these babies and it thumps so nice, I need to buy some more DynaMat for my trunk and rear deck. Yes, it kicks that good!
Pros: Nice amount of bass in a small package. Can run as a 1, 2 or 4 Ohm sub.
Cons: None I have found so far
Purchased to replace Factory Sub in 2005 Wrangler. I knew there would be a few box modifications to be made, well worth it. The sub sounds great and wiring it was as easy as could be.
Pros: Sound, price
I bought this as a replacement for my 2005 Jeep Wrangler. The factory blew out and I needed to replace it and went with this one for it's size. I had to use a dremel and cut away some of the plastic molding in the console but I made it fit in the end. Drilled some new holes and hooked it up with no issues. Sounds better than the original and I don't have a special amp. Not a bad choice for the bucks spent. Easy enough for a weekend do-it-yourself guy to handle.
Pros: Size; Sound; Price
I installed it on my 05 jeep wrangler to replace the subwoofer. This thing packs a good punch for the size no problems yet with it.
Pros: Great sound and with a lot of bass.
Cons: none yet
I used them for a stock replacement of my door speakers in my Saab 9-3. with a little trimming i was able to use the stock mounting brackets they fit and sound great i was worried that the speakers would mount too deep into the door shallow mount meant exactly what was advertised
Pros: Rms was low only 50 watts which meant that i could keep my stock amp
Cons: the posts are on the side of the basket had to put a little electrical tape to over them to make sure i did not ground out
Bought as a factory sub replacement for 2003 jeep rubicon. Just had to trim some plastic inside the sub box, re drilled new holes and it sounds great. Added some mids and a little bass to the whole vehicle. I am very pleased
Pros: Great replacement
Cons: Had to trim to fit but I knew that buying the sub
This thing works amazing!!!
I was looking for a replacement for Chrysler Crossfire subs. This is the only 2 ohm subs that come close to fitting. The sub holder has to be cut with a jig saw; however, it will work. The stock amp has just enough power to drive the subs. Note the polarity using a 9 V battery on the old subs before you pull the leads.
Pros: Only subs that will fit a Crossfire. Great sound.
They sound really loud. They don't produce much bass. Overall pretty decent speaker.
Pros: Multiple ohms.
Cons: Not much bass.
It needs a proper install work up by Crutchfield. There are a lot of us with 10 plus year old factory speakers that are going bad. Crutchfield install notes for TJ LJ center console install would prove beneficial for sales.
Pros: Great sound
Cons: Needs a proper build sheet from Crutchfield.
Pros: Great improvement in bass response.
Cons: A little difficult to install. Not a perfect fit.
With a little alteration to center console it was an easy install. Sounds great
Pros: Easy install , great sound
Needed a replacement woofer and speakers for my Honda Element. The kicker dropped into place with and only needed to drill a couple of holes as some lined up perfectly with the factory install. I didnt feel the stock Element enclosure needed any tuning and the sound was much better then the factory sub.
Pros: No modifications needed except a couple of new drill holes.
After some minor adjustments with screw placement, that weren't a big deal at all, this subwoofer perfectly replaced my wrangler stock one. Sounds great too.
Cons: Minor adjustments for screws
excellent replacement for my factory subwoofer
Pros: perfect match
Replaced factory "Infinity" sub. There were some minor mods to make to the speaker box. After that, it was pretty much plug'n'play. The sound is great and build/quality of the product are far superior to that of the factory model.
Pros: Great fit, specialized product for small sub replacement, excellent sound quality
Cons: none that I've seen so far
Replaced my blown stock sub in my 05 wrangler. Fit great with a few adjustments. Sounds great! Very pleased. Looking forward to putting a aftermarket amp to it.
Pros: Deep bass for the buck.
really good! small break in period I put these in my audi a4 rear deck, had to do a little cutting and shaping but once they were in, it was the perfect combo of bass and speaker if I turned the bass all the way up they get a lot louder then I had previously expected im very happy if I turn the bass down and keep most of the power through the speakers they wint distort or sound bad they fill the car with a soild rumble
Pros: small factor can fit into a lot of places loudness compared to its small size don't under estimate!!!!
Cons: I got nothin'
drop in replacement for blown junk factory subwoofer. other than different mounting hole it was dropin. no cutting of factory plactic enclosure, strip wires and hookup and screw down. simple. easy. pricey but well worth it. factory sub weighs maybe one pound. this sub weighs at 4 pounds plus. and it sounds great.
Pros: easy install, well built, looks good, great sound
Cons: none other than price
Easy swap for a factory sub in a Jeep Wrangler (TJ). Running off a separate amp - sounds good (for what it is) and is unobtrusive.
Pros: Easy. Fit with minor cutting in factory enclosure. Sounds good so far.
Cons: Not incredibly efficient - soaks up power from amp.
I bought the Kicker 40CWRT672 as a replacement for the factory console mounted sub in my Jeep Wrangler TJ. A much more cost effective replacement solution than the OEM Chrysler part . After some minor plastic trimming (easy) of the factory sub enclosure to clear the larger speaker magnet, it fits perfectly. It would have been nice of Kicker to include some screws to mount the woofer. While still driven by the factory sub amp, this speaker is noticeably better sounding than the OEM unit it replaced. Hopefully, higher build quality will contribute to longevity as well Predictable tight, controlled bass for a small diameter woofer. No complaints whatsoever!
Pros: Much higher quality than the OEM sub it replaced at a better price.
Cons: Some mounting screws supplied by Kicker or Crutchfield would have been nice.
After blowing the stock woofer located in the center console I stepped up to this much better after market woofer. Like many others I'm using the stock amp but notice a much improved sound. The install was easy and required minor tools and very minor trimming of the 'fins' inside the center console housing. Highly recommend this has a drop in replacement.
Pros: Amazing sound comes from such a small package Dual voice will support future changes, clear that other parts of the system should be upgraded also
Used this to replace factory sub in center console of my 01 jeep wrangler. Still used the factory amp, since this is a dual voice coil sub. Awesome! Best improvement to my sound.
I ordered this speaker as a direct replacement for the Harman Kardon stock 6" subwoofer in my BMW M roadster. Upon receiving it (in a mighty small box, I might add) I was immediately impressed with the build quality, it was an extremely good-looking, solid little speaker, I hated that I was going to hide it in between the seats! Upon installation I took it easy and gave it time to break itself in. By the end of a long road trip, it was beginning to impress me, and two weeks later it still is. Awesome sound from such a tiny speaker, and it's worth mentioning that I am still using the stock enclosure and amp, which are likely limiting its full potential. Looking forward to replacing the amp down the road and really seeing what this thing is capable of, but do not hesitate to buy if you are in the market for a small subwoofer, this thing is the business.
Pros: Very slick design, versatile and powerful.
Cons: Nothing yet
I purchased this speaker as a replacement for the factory sub (which failed) in the factory center console of my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. The fit requires some trimming of the interior support ribs which took me about 5 minutes to accomplish with a Dremmel Tool, you will have to drill 4 new speaker mounting screws as well. The fit looks factory and the sound is far superior to what the factory speaker put out. I used the factory amp as well wired up on the 2 ohm side and am very pleased with the clarity, price and performance of the speaker. For a small sub it hits pretty good and sounds nice and clear with the factory radio/amp set up. I would and have recommended this to every Wrangler owner I know.
Pros: Sound, Price and ease of installation
Cons: As stated above the only con I have for this speaker is the very minor work required to install in my Wrangler!
This is a great little sub. I have a Viper and there's not much room for a sub, so I tried one of the self comtained amp+sub boxes that fit under the seat. Sounded awful. Replaced the factory 6 1/2" with this little guy and now I'm going to have to insultate and tighten everything down because it rattles the car pretty good.
Pros: Great sound for a small sub
installed in 2002 jeep good fit nice sound
This subwoofer was worth the wait! Once it was in stock I got it the next day. It fits great in the stock enclosure in the armrest of my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. You will have to use a dremel tool or diagonal pliers and nip away at the plastic webbing inside the enclouse, about 3/4 of an inch. The sub drops right in and redrill the holes. Compared to the factory subwoofer is night and day. This tiny sub hits hard for being only 6 3/4". It will set off car alarms a block away or give people in the car next to you heart palpitaions, but it will shake your mirrors. I am very happy with this purchase.
Pros: Amazing little subwoofer! Easy to install and wire up. It took less than 1hr from start to finish.
Cons: None really could have sent 8 screws in the pack not just 4.

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.
Tinsel Leads: CompRT subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.
Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed enclosure.
Recommended Enclosure: Kicker recommends a sealed enclosure for the 40CWRT672 (vented enclosures are not recommended):
I have had Kicker brand before. The Subwoofer in my Jeep TJ is blown. I want to have something that will sound good, so am going to try this one. [ Walter Dec 08, 2015 ]

Yes it does, and we have it in stock. Being a larger sub, it will have a much higher power handling capacity. You can view it here, http://www.crutchfield.com/p_2064CRT102/Kicker-40CWRT102.html?tp=111 . [ Kenny Dec 31, 2015 ] Staff
I have the same issue with just one...I am afraid its has a defect in it as it is wired correctly...just hate to take it out and pay and replace... [ BRIAN Dec 28, 2015 ]

Most likely no since it's a duel coil sub. I I ended up using a mono kicker amp. placed under my dash. Works good, though you won't get really deep bass with this setup but saves space. [ pferraro02 Oct 05, 2015 ]
We mounted the unit as a replacement for the stock subwoofer in an '01 Wrangler. This is a dual coil unit and will require a minimum of 25 watts on each coil. I would not recommend it, as you will be dedicating two channels from your receiver to drive this sub. It is also very low impedance requiring same from your speakers. This would be very difficult to match. Get a small amp that can be well hidden nearby in the car. 80-100 watts of decent quality amp should do great. The stock Jeep amp in our Wrangler works great with this unit. Crutchfield can help you there. [ Robert Oct 04, 2015 ]
The Kenwwod KDC-BT562u's Maximum Output Power is 50W x 4 so you should be safe using this Kicker Subwoofer. What you need to check is that your Amplifier is within the range they recommend (mono amplifier rated between 120 and 225 watts RMS at 4 ohms). I installed this subwoofer with an OEM amplifier on a 2008 Honda Element and it worked fine. The radio was aftermarket (can't remember the brand, it was for an old girlfriend). Great sound and bass. No issues at all except that the bass was too much for me. Find out the actual specs on your Amp, and go from there. Hope this helped you out. [ Juan Oct 03, 2015 ]
This is a single woofer and sounds great! [ James Jul 03, 2015 ]

Not sure if that is what it means Thomas. I wired it to a stock jeep amp that used a dual coil speaker and it works wonderful. sorry I could not be more help. good luck man. [ craig Jun 05, 2015 ]
The Subwoofer is set up with 2 ea. 2-ohm coils which dependent on your system could be wired in series at 4 ohm, or in parallel at 1 ohm. This is perfect for the wiring in a Jeep Wrangler as replacement for the factory sub, or in similar systems. [ Robert Jun 01, 2015 ]
It may the bass may be better with the kicker but I'm notsure..this sub is dual voice coil so it may be too much for your factory amp plus it may require more power..I have 100w rms from a clarion aftermarket amp just for the sub depends on the enclosure too...may be worth a try though..if it doesn't sound good u can always return it..good luck [ BRAD May 11, 2015 ]
If you are only replacing the speaker and not adding an external amp, I would say not really. Any improvement will be slight at best. You would still be limited by the factory amp. You could try some polyfill in the stock sub enclosure first, but you will never really get deep or full bass out of such a smal sub and enclosure. [ JOHN May 11, 2015 ]

I have an 04 TJ which only had 4 speakers back then + sub, which was totally blown out. I replaced all and connected to a 5 channel amp. I used the 5 channel because I didn't want to give up the little "trunk" area that I actually had so it is neatly tucked in under the rear seat. The sub I specifically picked because it would fit in the arm rest area altho I had to dremel out the space for it inside as the OEM sub was much shallower. All in all, I am happy with the combo, I get a good punchy, but not overbearing base from the 6" without being obnoxious to all around me. [ ANTHONY May 11, 2015 ]

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: We have a great article on our website about How to Build a Subwoofer Box you can check it out here: http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/subwoofers/box_building.html?showAll=N It isn't going to be specific for that subwoofer you're looking at, but it will help you determine sizing using Kicker's recommendation which is that the box be sealed and have a maximum enclosure volume of 0.18 ft³ and a maximum of 0.75 ft³.
