It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS654 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-1/2" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter
  • power range: 2-100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-13/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI (polyetherimide) balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the CS65 also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which must be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

Disappointing speakers, switching back to stock.

Written By Joe, Minneapolis, MN on Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 4 of these speakers after reading reviews here along with a matched amplifier to upgrade the factory sound system in a Honda Civic Si 2013. I had everything professionally installed and tuned. I am so disappointed in the sound quality, volume, and bass that I am going to be selling them and replacing with the much cheaper yet equally effective Non Amplified stock speakers. Bottom line, these speakers work but they do not improve anything over factory.

Pros: None

Cons: Expensive, no improvement over stock, little to no bass response, horrible sound quality.

Great Mid and High

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great door speakers, sound quality is awesome. Obviously they can't handle too much bass at high volume, but that's what the 6x9 and subs are for. Couldn't be happier with them, not even driving them off an amp and they sound incredible. They were shipped very quickly and came free with the connectors so I didn't have to damage the OEM wiring.

Pros: High sound quality, even at extremely high volume.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, the speakers can in a couple of days before I thought they would come in, so that was a plus. I didn't have any problem with the speakers them selves and once I got them in the doors they sounded GREAT and I had a smile in my face the whole time in had the music cracked up.

Pros: Great speakers, low price, high quality

Cons: Nothing was wrong with the speakers, just the mount I was sent along with the speakers.

The speakers are a very good improvement over the stock speakers in my 2012 Wrangler. Clearer sound and they don't distort on bass. Great for the price.

Pros: Great improvement

Cons: None.

Needs more base

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought replacements for all 4 doors on my 2008 Silverado Crew Cab when I only had 1 functional factory door speaker. Speakers installed fairly easily. After the first 1, the others went much quicker. Sound quality overall is good. Good clear high and mid-range sound, but lower range bass is severely lacking compared to factory speakers. I am using the factory head unit, so would probably improve with an amp. I'm also considering a subwoofer at a later date.

Pros: Easy install, good sound quality.

Cons: Lacks bass. Likely adding subs later to improve sound.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these as a replacement for my 4Runners stick speakers. Didn't really expect much for under $75, but I went for it. I'm really happy I did. They produce a really great overall sound. Nice and loud, haven't really put them to the test because they are still pretty new. I have no doubt that they will take it all in stride. The Alpine CDE HD149BT that is pushing all 4 Kicker CS series speakers sounds great. Want a great upgrade on your speakers on a budget, get these! Yeah you don't get the loss of a sub, but that's why you buy a sub.

Pros: Cheap, great sound,

Cons: No lows

Cons: None so far.

Kickin It - part 2

Written By Criteeker, California on Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for the rear doors of my GMC Envoy. I also purchased the baffles. The baffles should be opened to allow some breathing when moving air and the wires to pass through. Since my doors had some water inside them (for some strange reason) I suggest using a plastic bag over the connection with Zip-Ties on each end. The sound is decent for a 2-way speaker so if you're not going to use an amp and sub, don't expect amazing sound, just better sound than most factory garbage. With the baffles you might not need to use spacers. Things stored in door panels may become rattles so they might need to be relocated.

Pros: decent sound, decent thump

Cons: mounting them with baffles becomes a bit tricky

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are just average. The range seems very limited. Would have liked full range speakers at this price even if I had to give up power to get it.

Pros: They work. Average price.

Cons: Limited range and sound a bit muffled.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Loud and clear, used them with a PA 660 amp, 75x4. Bought these to replace Boston Acoustic S65Rc's, they sound cleaner and have pretty good range, very nice upgrade for the price. The amp was necessary to take advantage of the power, these really kick for 6 1/2's. Before I bought the amp, it wasn't much of an upgrade, but that would be true for any good speakers.

Pros: Loud, clear, good range

Cons: They aren't $250/pair component speakers, ran out of screws, get your own hardware.

Very very good value for money. I would like to amp these eventually but there is a marked difference in quality from stock. I put these in a wrangler. The install for roll bar was cake. The dash install instructions are a little over the top. You dont have to remove as many components as they say.

Pros: Sound quality is a great. Value for money is fantastic.

Cons: Instructions were over zealous for the dash install.

Very good recommendation by Crutchfield advisor "Shane" for stock speaker replacement in 2000 Sierra pickup. He was also very helpful selecting correct brackets and electrical adaptors.

Pros: Nice bright sound, superior to stock speakers and at a reasonable price.

Cons: Low bass is maybe a little weak but not bad for 6.5" speaker.

Clearance issues in 99' Cavalier with supplied bracket.

Written By Weigel21, KS on Sunday, November 09, 2014

Speakers sounded quite muffled/colored, not to mention sharp/harsh. Figured they may just need some time to break-in. Well, after a month or so, the harshness of the tweeters seemed to die down some, but the speakers still just didn't sound right. Went to pull them to try out another speaker to see if it was the speaker or my amplifier (RF PBR300X4). Come to find, there was a partial ring in the dust on the door panel. Played the one speaker without the door panel, sound much cleaner/clearer. Changed the balance over to the passenger door, speaker didn't sound quite right.

I believe Crutchfield needs to do a little more research. My car is a 99' Cavalier RS.

Speakers were HPF'd at 100Hz, got a sub for lows.

Pros: Inexpensive OEM replacements

Cons: A little harsh and don't properly fit in a 99' Cavalier with supplied bracket.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these as a replacement for the factory speakers. At first they did sound a little "tinny". Not much bass. After a month of break in they really started to sound good. I got some foam speaker baffles and that made a world of difference. The bass really came alive. Recently I got two more for the rear doors and went old school and bought a 200 watt 7 band EQ. These speakers really come to life with some extra juice powering them. I had just the factory head unit before. Now they will hurt your ears. I am amazed at how much power they can handle. And how good the sound and clarity is. Totally happy with these purchases!

Keep in mind these speakers need a break in period. The do sound better as time goes along. And I would recommend using the foam baffles. I got the boom mats. They really help with the bass. And if you can put some power to them, like an amp or amplified EQ. Its the only way to do these speakers justice.

Pros: Great sound for a great price.

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I picked up a beater 99 Durango from a lady at work -- quickly realized that it was a cremepuff. Invested some money into it (super low miles). After going through the car I fixed nearly everything, leaving the blown speakers as my last project. I was looking for a good sound at a reasonable cost. These puppies did the trick. Easy replacement (you have to use the factory spacers on the front door but not the back) to the factory Infinity 6 speakers that came with the car. Just replaced the 4 in the doors, leaving the infinity tweeters alone (FYI -- the tweeters were not working so taking the panel off I notice that the solder had failed on the black wire -- a quick fix and we were back in business on the high end). I also have retained the head end unit -- which, if I decide to keep the car, will be replaced. Back to the speakers, in short, I did a before and after comparison with different songs -- U2's "Beautiful Day", Cold Play's "Clocks", a guitar instrumental, and a bit of Eminem to check out the range. While not perfect, they were more than a slight upgrade to the factories that were in there. Further, the Kicker product line will easily allow me to match up an Amp and Sub if I decide to go that direction. Super replacements. For the money, these are about the best you are going to find.

Pros: Sound great right out of the box. Strong range and excellent clarity. Flexible enough to allow me to add an AMP and Sub in the future without further investment in the speakers.

Cons: None at this time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These are overall good speakers for the money. I just installed a sub and thought that these might get overpowered while not hooked up to an amp, but they still hold their own! Once they get broken in, they are much clearer than my stock speakers.
