Kicker 40CS654

It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS654 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-1/2" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter
  • power range: 2-100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-13/16"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI (polyetherimide) balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the CS65 also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which must be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

1997 GMC Suburban

Written By Big G, California on Wednesday, February 25, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I selected the 6.5" version as the front and rear door replacements for the stock speakers in my 1997 GMC Suburban (with factory premium 8 speaker system) and I'm totally satisfied with fit, ease of installation and sound quality. The rears did not require the included adapter plate, just the 6 long screws and hanger clips (3 per speaker) that are also included free with the free installation kit. The fronts fit perfectly as well with the included adapter plate which, once you clip off the unused tabs, resembles and attaches just like the factory install plate that is permanently affixed to the factory speaker without need of any of the included free hardware. With the speakers, the free location specific installation hardware and wiring harnesses and the vehicle specific installation instructions this was a great value! And I cannot forget to mention the shipping speed, ease of use of the website and helpfulness of the Crutchfield team!! I will be doing business again with them in the very near future!!

Pros: Price, quality, sound, free location specific hardware and wiring harness, shipping speed, ease of use of the website and the great (and free) customer tech support!!

Cons: The vehicle specific instructions are vague and leave a bit to be desired but with a little mechanical/electrical experience and common sense the installation was actually very straight forward. But if you're in trouble, the Crutchfield team is always a (free) phone call away with all the answers!!!

Massive improvement over the stock speakers, with the stock head unit. I only wish I would have installed them sooner.

Pros: Great sound/fit.

Cons: None

Way better than stock!!!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

2011 silverado front door. Installation was straight forward. I watched several onlinee videos so I had a pretty good idea of what I was getting into before hand. Crutchfield even emailed detailed instructions but I never had to reference them. After separating the door panels I left the door release cable attached and just rotated the panel out of the way to access the speakers. You need a 10mm socket with an extension to remove the panel and 9/32 to remove the speaker. The wire harness provided for free plugged right into my stock harness and the speakers fit right into the brackets provided for free as well. I chose not to buy the boom mats and can still tell a noticeable sound difference from stock. Clear crisp vocals with moderate bass and no rattling. Everything arrived super fast after ordering and was packaged professionally. Crutchfield can't be beat.

Pros: Crisp sound, great product for price

Cons: None that I can think of

2011 honda pilot install

Written By Edwin, 11367 on Saturday, February 21, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these on all 4 doors of a 2011 honda pilot. I first had them running without an aftermarket amp and wasnt too pleased. Although they sounded decent they felt less powerful than the factory speakers. After using them for about 2 weeks without an aftermarket amp, I installed a alpine f300 amp with them and it makes a huge difference! They sound way louder and produce a cleaner sound. These speakers are good with an amp on a honda pilot but not really worth it if you only connect them to the factory system.

Pros: Price Good with aftermarket amp Can handle a lot of power

Cons: Not much of an upgrade to a factory system

For the price, can't be beat

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed into a 2011 mk6 VW Jetta TDI, with stock head unit. i ordered 2 sets to replace my front and rear speakers. Kit came with Scosche SAC-656 speaker mounting brackets and wiring harnesses.

All my stock speakers were blown and I needed replacement, can't stand driving for hours without music. These had high reviews and crutchfield hooked it up with the mounting brackets and harnesses. The brackets are not needed, the speakers mounting slots line up with the original holes, you do however need the mounting hardware that comes with the bracket. I put rubber foam weatherseal on the back of the speaker to eliminate vibrations against the door and ensure the door is properly sealed. The wiring harness dongles are awesome as it eliminates the need to cut and splice... making a return to stock if needed very simple.

The speakers sound amazing, I honestly wasn't expecting them to sound as crisp or produce as much bass as they do. Don't misunderstand, you won't be winning any competitions and if you want heavy bass these will leave you wanting more. They produce enough bass to make the door panel rattle a bit and lightly vibrate the rear view mirror, remember they are only 6 1/2" speakers. The highs and mids though are INCREDIBLY crisp, on par with speakers almost twice the price. Couldn't be happier with my purchase, highly recommended for a budget speakers, I don't think anything else in this price range can compete.

Pros: sound is incredibly crisp speakers look and feel very well made

Cons: none

Great sound

Written By davbar. 2008 Ram slt, Santa Rosa beach Fl, on Saturday, February 21, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Theses speakers made a major difference in the sound quality. They bring out more of the mid-range sounds, compared to the stock 5.25 that was the factory size for the rear doors. They will fit, you just have to drill new mounting hole's. These speakers paired with the Kicker cs6x9 front speakers really rocks. I only have them on the factory head unit right now. I am I going to add a Kicker amp in a few months to get the true sound out of these speakers. If you have questions before you buy, call Cruchfield and they will answer them. They helped me tremendously throughout my process of choosing what was the best speaker, for what I wanted from my system.

Pros: Great sound and looks

Cons: Have not found one

This set of Kicker 6.5" door speakers is amazing. The installation of 4 speakers took about 2 hours which included drilling out the rivets in my stock speakers. I have a 2011 Jetta and this was definetly an upgrade.

Pros: Easy to install Sounds great overall

Cons: None

Good upgrade over stock Bose speakers. Clear sound, just not enough kick. Will probably invest in the components and a sub later on.

Pros: Good sound Cheap

Cons: Not enough kick

Pass...

Written By J, Rockford michigan on Friday, February 13, 2015

These are cheap. They have terrible lows and no bass quality. The highs are alright. But nothing special. These are no quality compared to polks. Much better speaker for alittle bit more money. I listen to music with a little bass and my stereo is set on low bass boosters and eq's.

Pros: Cheap and look cool

Cons: They don't last or handle any power.

Awful

Written By J, Grand Rapids Michigan on Friday, February 13, 2015

I bought these a week ago and after two days of being in my car they were blown. I don't listen to songs with much bass and my front speakers are fine. Polk speakers are not much more expensive. But they are so much better quality.

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: They blew after two days.

Nice Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Just installed a set of 4 of them yesterday. They are very nice speakers. Gives a good amount of bass as well, which I wasn't expecting. Over all I am very happy with these speakers. I still have the stock deck in the truck and am looking to replace that as well, so I am sure they will be even better with a better deck to push them.

Pros: Cost, Quality, and Great Sound.

Cons: None

I'm highly impressed with the sound quailty. I've always used kicker subwoofers and this is the first time I've used their mid range speakers. I definetly plan to use them in my future vehicles.

Pros: Excellent sound quality

Cons: Mounting hardware is terrible and needed mount brackets.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a nice upgrade from the factory speakers. Not sure about Bass out of them because I have a 10" sub in my reg cab truck so i didn't need bass from them too. I'm also using a kenwood ddx616 deck so there are a lot of adjustments to make them sound really good without an amp.

Pros: Price is fair for what you get. The mounting brackets worked great for my truck.

Cons: The installation instructions were wrong for taking off the door panel my armrest window controls don't come off from the top they are screwed in from the backside so some of the plastic broke.

Great speaker for the money. This is the second car that I have changed out the factory speakers and put in Kicker CS654's. Fantastic service from Crutchfield...the purchase included wire harnesses and mounting brackets. Couldn't ask for anything easier.

Pros: Great sound quality for a small price.

These speaker are a replacement for the stock door speakers on a 2004 Chevy reg cab 1/2 ton truck. Stock drivers side door speaker was wet and stop working don't know why it got wet. The speakers are ok better than stock. I only have the stock cd player so they may be better with aftermarket stereo and amp.

Disappointing speakers, switching back to stock.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 4 of these speakers after reading reviews here along with a matched amplifier to upgrade the factory sound system in a Honda Civic Si 2013. I had everything professionally installed and tuned. I am so disappointed in the sound quality, volume, and bass that I am going to be selling them and replacing with the much cheaper yet equally effective Non Amplified stock speakers. Bottom line, these speakers work but they do not improve anything over factory.

Pros: None

Cons: Expensive, no improvement over stock, little to no bass response, horrible sound quality.

Great Mid and High

Written By Will Y, Oklahoma City, OK on Monday, January 26, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great door speakers, sound quality is awesome. Obviously they can't handle too much bass at high volume, but that's what the 6x9 and subs are for. Couldn't be happier with them, not even driving them off an amp and they sound incredible. They were shipped very quickly and came free with the connectors so I didn't have to damage the OEM wiring.

Pros: High sound quality, even at extremely high volume.

Great Speakers

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

First of all, the speakers can in a couple of days before I thought they would come in, so that was a plus. I didn't have any problem with the speakers them selves and once I got them in the doors they sounded GREAT and I had a smile in my face the whole time in had the music cracked up.

Pros: Great speakers, low price, high quality

Cons: Nothing was wrong with the speakers, just the mount I was sent along with the speakers.
