Built tough

Kicker's 40CS654 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

1/2" PEI Balanced-dome Tweeters: The 1/2" PEI (polyetherimide) balanced-dome tweeters provide a smooth high frequency response with quick, detailed and spatially-correct imaging. The tweeters have strong neodymium magnets for higher power handling.

Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the CS65 also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which must be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

Q
Have 2 6x5 coax speakers in the front of my car. One in each door. Then have 2 kicker 6x9 3 way in the back. Would a Skar Audio 2000 watt 1ohm amp work to push all 4 speakers or is that amp too powerful?
kelsey  Apr 30, 2017
1 answer
A
Most 1 Ohm capable amplifiers are mono (single channel) and made for powering subwoofers. For full-range frequencies and to retain balance & fader controls, you'll want a 4-channel amp to power the two pairs of speakers. Q
Replacing the 8 ohm factory speakers in the rear doors of my 2004 Chevy Silverado 1500, 5.3 liter truck. Will these work as direct replacements as far as functionality? Not worried about the fit - pretty sure that wont be an issue. There are no ohm references in the details of these speakers. Most speakers are 4 ohm & I want to make sure that replacing these 8 ohm speakers with 4 ohm won't cause any issues.
rick  Aug 09, 2016
1 answer
A
The Kickers are conventional 4 Ohm aftermarket car speakers. The stock system is 4 Ohm stable so there will be no issue connecting them to the factory wiring an amplification. They will get more wattage so you will likely notice they offer greater volume than their factory counterparts. I hope that helps. My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

What size baffles fit these? Thanks
hommie  Jul 05, 2016

6.5" baffles for 6.5" speakers. Standard or slim/shallow models will work but I tend to recommend the shallow models for door applications: http://www.crutchfield.com/g_762/Foam-Speaker-Baffles.html?tp=2809 I hope that helps! My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=5

Q
Does this have extremely good bass and is not sensitive to it whatsoever?
zachary  May 30, 2016
3 answers
A
These speakers have great sound and can handle the watts. As far as extremely good bass I can't answer that honestly because my system has a separate sub speaker and most bass goes thru it and not these speakers.
lee  Jun 02, 2016
A
So, I have Kicker 6x9" in the rear deck, and Kicker 6.5" in both doors powered by a Pioneer Bluetooth head unit that puts out about 13w. If you're listening to bass heavy rap, you can turn the volume up to 37/50 and not have any distortion. People have asked me if I have sub woofers, I do not. I love my set up, and you definitely can not go wrong with Kicker anything. If you're listening to country, pop, or rock, the bass is still extremely impressive and does not get distorted at any volume level.

I love the kickers i bought them about 2 yrs ago. I still have a factory stereo in my truck and it definatly improved the bass. I also purchase the foam baffles for the speakers which i recomend adding it also improved the bass as well

I've got a 2015 Honda Civic EX that I would like to upgrade the sound system on. I've purchased a small sub from Crutchfield for my previous car (Honda Element), which had a built in space for the sub. Will these sound good in my rear doors with a after market JVC radio? Also I'm getting an amp and subs will the speakers sound better if ran through that amp too?

A
Depends on what you're installing them in and the enclosure area I'd guess. If your head unit is of good quality and you plan to amplify your bass frequencies, I think you'll be pleased with them "as is" without amplification. I bought 4 (2 sets) for my 2013 2 door Jeep Wrangler with the base head unit that has a cd player. The pair in my overhead soundbar had a lot of extra space so I filled it with holofil (pillow stuffing) and I noticed that the bass response is better in those. The front dash pair are in very small enclosures yet they still seem to sound very good at all frequencies. I drive my factory head unit hard and listen to all types of music from country to rock to rap. The max volume level of my Jeep is 35 or 38 and I generally run it at 30 or 32. I bought an amplified MTX 8" sub for my lows and everything blends just great. Before I had the sub, I would generally keep my volume around 20 due to the bass frequency being more than they could handle at high volume. I now run my settings for bass at a -6 or -8 out of a range of -9 to +9. If you listen at mild volume levels, you'll be pleasantly satisfied with these speakers. I could only imagine that pushing them with a quality amp would make them shine even more. My entire system consists of an OEM head unit, 4 Kicker 40CS654's (non amplified) and a powered MTX 8" sub in the rear. I would strongly suggest some type of holofil filler for the door panels in order to improve bass response. A good Dynamat would also be nice. Bottom line..... These are GREAT speakers.

The speakers do get loud. But lack a full sound that i was looking for. Kenwood, alpine and focal all make a nice speaker that i feel sounds much better.
jesse l  Aug 12, 2015
A
It depends a lot on the actual jvc stereo you'll be using but it should sound better than most stock systems. The amp would probably be good powering the subs only

A
Poor bass is always user error. Aftermarket speakers will almost always have higher bass potential, especially these kickers. Their mounting depth is pretty shallow so you should be good if they're 6.5" to begin with. Mounting the tweeters is easy enough but may require some cutting so look flush. All depends on how much room you have to work with. The cheapest remedy for the bass is to add a speaker baffle which 'seals' the speaker providing better forward resonance which enhances midbass. Factory speakers are designed to use the door/panel to provide the same effect but when adding a new speaker design this tends to fail resulting in less bass. Baffles are about 15.00 a pair so cheap and easy to install, just put behind the speaker when installing. Ifninstalled properly these speakers will work very well
kevin  Jun 10, 2015
A
the speakers overall are very good. they do lack bass. i would suggest a sub for low end that would give you the best sound overall for your system.

With a Jvc head unit, 52 watts a channel, anyone replaced all four speakers ( 2 doors and 2 in rear seat panels) in a 99' Mitsubishi eclipse hatchback? How's the "punch"?
matthew  Apr 28, 2014

A
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: These Kicker speakers are excellent. They will play a wide frequency range including the lower bass range and will run well off of the JVC head units RMS power. With an aftermarket amp you could even give them up to 100 watts of power for the best performance. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Yes the bass is pretty good. I installed these in the front doors of my Camry and put Kicker elliptical speakers in the rear shelf. Hard to say which pair puts out the most bass but I can rattle the car pretty well with only a head unit- no extra amplifier.

They do deliver good bass for a door speaker. I have them on a crossover now so most of the bass goes to the subs.

Q
Do I need a amplifier with these speakers?

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The speakers do not "need" an amplifier. They're very efficient and will sound good off factory or after market radio power. If they're going to be played at loud volumes, an amplifier will definitely help and make them sound even better. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

Q
Do I have to have an amp to run these speakers or can a aftermarket head unit work? I'm looking at the pioneer head unit pushing 16 rms and using these for back speakers a the 6 1/2 Polk dxi's for the front. Thanks!
