It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS674 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-3/4" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Nice speakers, great bass and highs

OK - Lack of Bass - Not a drop in

Written by: Anonymous from Fairfax, VA on July 13, 2016

1999 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

As a stock replacement these speakers are just OK. Considering two speakers in the burb were not working it is great to have sound again. They were on sale but I should have stuck with Polk (I love Polk speakers and use them in my other vehicles but this is a utility burb so I went cheap). These kickers are OK but there is hardly any bass even with speaker bass cranked way up (as per other reviews). The mids and highs are OK but sound a bit hollow. If these had more bass I would have given them 4 stars. You will need to drill new holes for these speakers as they do not have the same screw pattern as the '99 burb (and the universal adapter was useless). If you are set on buying them, buy them on sale.

Pros: They work fine. Mids and highs are ok. Price at Crutchfield was OK.

Cons: Lack of bass. Installation required modification of doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Put these speakers in my pickup a few weeks ago, and am VERY impressed with the great sound these Kickers produce! I was a little reluctant before purchasing, mainly due to thinking I was going to have a low-end speaker for the price, with low-end sound. I could not have been more wrong If you're on the fence like I was, buy them, you'll be glad you did ??

Pros: Great sound for the price point.

Cons: None, sounded better than expected!

2007 GMC Sierra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

So the reviews all indicate that these Kicker speakers are a perfect OEM replacement. I can tell you that they are Not! Even with the stock speakers being completely blown (paper diagram was non-existent) they were better and could handle the stock head unit's power better than these. Maybe it is due to the shallow design of these Kicker speakers but sound and bass were nothing compared to the OEM ones. I am very disappointed, first at me for believing the reviews (both here and on another site) and second for a product that touts itself as a manufacturer of quality speakers. If the OEM speakers were not in such bad condition, I would have just put them back and returned these things. Low range is OK and maybe the speakers are a little clearer, but I was hoping for better bass and more sound differentiation. Sad product. Crutchfield was great. Oh, and don't believe the installation videos, you can install these on a GMC/Chevy 2007 and up rear door without removing the electrical window switches and door cables. With some simple manipulation of your hands and tools you can install by just popping the door panel off and work around the cabling.

Pros: Easy install, thanks to Crutchfield, slim design. Took me less than 10 minutes a door.

Cons: Terrible bass pickup, mid and low range is bearable. You get what you pay for. Shame on Kicker for indicating these are as good if not better than stock.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I noticed a huge upgrade in sound quality when I replaced my factory speakers with the Kicker speakers. The factory speakers weren't even that old, but the difference was drastic. I haven't even attached my amplifier yet and these speakers sound great. Crutchfield sent me everything I needed to easily install these in the Front and Rear doors of my car. Great buy! Would definitely recommend both these speakers and Crutchfield as the place to go to buy audio equipment.

Pros: great sound; easy install; incredible volume (with or without amplifier)

Cons: No complaints yet.

A nice replacement for the junky factory front-door speakers. The mounting holes on the speakers, are close, but they do not quite match up with the vehicle's screw holes and some small flat washers needed to be added.

Pros: Sound good, low cost.

Cons: Fit is a tad off for my vehicle.. You can't use the O mounting holes, you must use the U mounting holes but the screws are at the very outer edge of the holes.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The door speakers in my 2005 Saab blew a while ago and I have been looking around for some replacements. With Crutchfield's online speaker finder, I was able several options. The factory installed system in the Saab had 13 speakers and I wanted new speakers for the door to play well with the others. A chat with Crutchfield's tech support helped tremendously in selection and with the tools I needed to do the replacement myself. I undertook the project and was amazed that I actually made it work, in only an hour. The sound - spectacular! They play well with the system. Big thanks to Crutchfield for steering me in the right direction and saving me significant dollars in having the auto shop do it.

Pros: They play well with existing system; Great Sound; All parts necessary included; Tool list provided (by Crutchfield)

Cons: I waited too long to purchase

These are great speakers for the money. This is the second set I've purchased and I've been really happy with the performance at this price point. From a sound perspective, they are very clear, bright and accurate. They are also very efficient and produce plenty of volume using just the power from the receiver. The speaker components are solid and the magnets are hefty. I'm planning on buying another set soon

Pros: Clear, bright and accurate Great performance at a good price point Very efficient

Cons: None

For a stock replacement speaker in my 2006 SILVERADO,these Kickers were Okay. They do Not have enough Bass for me. The Mid Range is strong in them. The Highs are decent. These are speakers are acceptable, however , if I were ever to do have to replace them I would go with a different pair of speakers.

Pros: Highs and Mid- Range is "OK"

Cons: Not quite enough Bass for me.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace the stock speakers in the front doors of my 2009 Chevy Express Van. I installed them myself using the included hardware and it took under 1/2 hour. The difference in sound from stock to these is awesome. These are not extreme bass pounding speakers but they are all-around very nice speakers. I am still using my stock head unit with no amp and my van is now rocking.

Pros: Nice price point, great sound, easy to install with Crutchfield's included hardware

Cons: Not a ton of bass but still great sound

This is an amazing product , talk about an over achiever . I thought this would be ok , and maybe down the road but some other speakers . After all the pair is cheaper than one or not even half the price . The old saying is you get what you pay for . In this case I really got a great speaker at a price you wouldn't think they could possibly be this good . Talking to the sales person he said you will be surprised , he should have said shocked . They made my factory system sound awesome , don't be afraid for the price , just smile and rock

Pros: Terrific price and performance. These sales people know there products

Cons: Cons , ,,,,,box could have been better , cannot think of any cons !!

Pros: Sound good even on 14rms Great base Easy to install Durable Alot cheaper than jl

2009 Subaru Forester
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I selected these to go with the stock head unit, a move that is arguably marginal. The decision was based on wanting to upgrade step by step if so desired and these speakers seemed to be rather efficient given their size and performance. With the Crutchfield adapters, they were easy to deal with and most important, the sound is way better than the stock Subaru speakers. These were used in the front only. Very satisfied.

Pros: Good bang for the buck.

Cons: Might not have the clarity and range of some higher end speakers that would take more power to drive them.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I put these in all 4 doors of my Access Cab Tundra, and was so impressed with their sound. I used a Clairion head unit and added the Alpine 4x45 amplifier. The head unit and amp are impressive. Maybe I stretched out the ability of these Kicker speakers, but 2 of them, are distorted and playing poorly at low volume levels now. Of course they played amazingly for like 18 months...but now...time for new ones since they sound horrible. Maybe I will upgrade to a component setup for the front doors, and add a powered subwoofer. Still very happy with the head unit though!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Replaced the OEM speakers in the front and rear doors of my 1998 GMC Jimmy with these Kicker 40CS674's. The old speakers were dried up and shot. These are of much better quality than the OEM's and they sound great. The fit was very good using the original mounting brackets, and I only had to re-drill new mounting holes. They have much more base than the OEM's. Crutchfield was great to work with, and their support was extremely helpful.

Pros: Great OEM replacements!

Cons: None.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The package was very well packed with shipping peanuts to protect them. Initially one of the boxes was a little rough around the edges but the product itself was perfectly clean. The look was very nice and the materials are really nice. The speaker just already feels more powerful. Now install time, my sets came with a wiring harness included to easy connect to a GMC harness which made these a drop in replacement. No alterations needed. After installing them the year leafy had much crisper highs and deeper lows. I recommend running them in for at least a week to a month before really blasting them so they can loosen up and reach peak performance. These speakers alone give a good a good shaking basson the stock receiver so having an aftermarket one will really get you going. These are fully reccomended, well worth the price for starter after market speakers. If you can afford find some 3-way speakers to get better mid range but these are a great upgrade over stock.

Pros: Good materials, look great, materials are solid and has a large magnet, dropped right in with no extra work, POWERRRRR. Can't go wrong with kicker.

Cons:

Arrived on time in perfect condition. Very easy install with no mods required to rear doors on my 2001 Suburban. Only issue was getting the old speakers out. After removing the screws, I needed to use a putty knife to pry the old factory speakers out of their enclosures due to some contact adhesive holding them in.

Pros: Good lows and a nice match to the newer Polk db651's up front which have less base but sweet highs.

Cons: Wish they went on sale sooner!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall the install was a great experience. I can remember when I was younger, installing speakers and radios was an nightmare. All the new helpful brackets and wiring harnesses made things a lot more pleasant. The only beef I have is one pair of my speaker adaptors were broken, but with all that night mare experience I have accumulated over the rough years, I just glued them bad boys back together and put them in any way. One day I might get a tuner to go with the new speakers and maybe I might even get an amp to push a little more bass. but for now I am pleased with everything accept the brackets being broken. Probably happened during shipping I'm sure. Just make sure you check all your components for damage before you begin your install.

Pros: Easy as pie install

Cons: Damaged goods

all the products were great. The front adapters fit ok when you used the Boom Mat Speaker Baffles, otherwise they would not have been as tight to the trim. The 6 3/4 did not fit in the original holes, I had to drill some extras. The rears speakers didn't have adapters. I cut out the old speaker and used the original Gm bracket. They fit to tight with the Boom Mats. But with a sharp knife and some cutting and drilling of new holes they fit pretty good. If you do this , check YouTube for hints and keep some 1/2 foam door gasket stuff around. All in all, I am very happy the way these Kickers have made my original radio sound. I would do it again.

Pros: great sound for the money

Cons: did not fit as easy as they made it sound, but not to bad.

I bought these speakers to replace my factory door speakers which where JBLs. These sound just as good to my ears...with quite a bit of bass and clear and crisp highs. It was nice to be able to plan ahead and know what I needed to do and what tools I needed for removal and re-installation of my door panels.

Noticed an improvement over OEM miata speakers. My OEM, front speakers, were still working. However, I needed a minor speaker upgrade. The kicker's did the job, it's much louder with clearer sound. BTW, the Kicker's were driven by my Head unit an AMP would surely maximize it's true potential.

Pros: Plenty of power for everyday listening, but don't expect any decent bass. You need a sub & AMP for that.

Used these to change out rattling stock speakers in the rear deck of my 1997 Mercedes E320. The fit was perfect but the instructions missed a minor detail about how to remove the back head rests - they were saying push them out with lots of force but the correct way is to pull the black tab to the front of the vehicle and it come out like jelly (after almost giving up 'cause that thing couldn't come out even with a crow bar). The sound quality is a definite upgrade. This added to the overall component system makes me feel good. Good top end clarity. Speaker technology has really developed over the past few decades. Now I need some low volume bass kick so I'll try a compact subwoofer and figure out where it will fit. Crutchfield is very good with customer service. Cutting edge company. One of my rear speakers broke in my 2012 Elantra and I knew the best place to go was Crutchfield.com. Using the fit guide and reviews, I selected the Kickers as a replacement set. The installation presented some challenges, as the installation instructions didn't state clearly the I would have to modify the speaker brackets; so I would encourage Crutchfield to consider updating its instructions. Once I got the speakers installed and fired up Rush's "Permanent Waves", I could tell the speakers were well worth the effort! Bass is much stronger and clean, and overall sound is significantly better than the factory speakers. My only problem now is that I guess I will have to replace the front set. ;-)

Pros: Strong bass. Crutchfield tech support.

Cons: Installation instructions could have been a little more clear. I had to call Crutchfield support twice to seek clarification.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are quite good for the price. They have accurate highs and lows and even though it is not a component system, the crossover doesn't seem to be too bad. That being said, you will need an amplifier in order to truly hear and feel what these speakers can do. For general listening purposes, hooking these up to a stock radio is a good choice, but their are cheaper options than these speakers. Their value truly lies in how much you can push them and their potential for upgrade ability. I am currently only powering these speakers with a Kenwood receiver that gives each speaker 22 watts RMS, so it begins to approach the optimal power of the speakers, but it really needs more for the mid-bass notes. These speakers look good, sound good, and have tons of room for a power upgrade.

Pros: Clean sound Allows for powering up your system Looks good Good price

Cons: A somewhat low sensitivity Not as efficient as other speakers around the same price Needs an amplifier to truly wake up the system (this is only because I love bass and is not a direct fault of the speakers)

The improvement over stock is well worth the price of these kickers. The bass for my system is handled by 2 - JL Audio 10W0v3-4 Subs n a Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker Sealed dual 10" subwoofer enclosure powered by the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime Series mono subwoofer amplifier. For a system that keeps the factory stereo, I think it sounds amazing.

Pros: Nice mids and highs Very efficient Great factory speaker upgrade

Cons: None

1998 Toyota 4Runner
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When looking for speakers, pay attention to the Frequency Response range listed in the SPECIFICATIONS tab. This one goes all the way down to 45 Hertz. The lower the low end of the range is, the more bass. Don't expect massive bass with these of course, they're not subs. Paired with my Alpine HU and the Alpine Power Pack, it works really well for my taste. (And it really is a matter of taste with sound right. Mine does not involve rattling license plates or dimming headlights that then require a capacitor between your battery and the amps and the...ahh, reminiscing my high school years.)

Pros: Good fidelity for the price. Compared to the Alpine SPR-60's (which I had in my truck first), I preferred these Kickers more again due to the lower end frequency range.

Cons: Be aware that if you specifically have a 1998 4Runner, the screw holes on these speakers won't align with the screw holes on the factory speaker assembly where this attaches to. This is also the case with the SPR-60's so it's not a speaker issue but more the age of the vehicle. They can't accomodate all the radius measurements across all years of vehicles so it's a matter of demand and supply. No prob tho, I used screws with a wide head to hold them firm.

Overall the speakers sound great. If your looking for stock replacement speakers this is it. Watching Utube videos on removing the door panel is the way to go and installing the new speakers. Take your time on doing the work and it will turn out very well.

Pros: Sounds great, nice to have four speakers working again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used the Kicker 40CS Series 6.75" and 4X6" to replace the factory speakers in my wife's '02 Chevy 2500HD. After some considerable Dynamat work in the doors and dash, they went into the factory holes without issue. Along with a Pioneer AVH-X7700BT and a Kicker 8" Hideaway Subwoofer, This truck really rocks!!! Crutchfield made it super easy to plug 'n' play those speakers!!! Thanks!

Pros: Clean sound, punchy mids and crisp highs

Cons: Very touchy low end freq range, lows are a little distorted, easily mitigated with a crossover.

These made quite a difference in the back of my 2015 Chevy Colorado. They sound much clearer and crisp. I've had them installed for about three weeks now. I bought the CS version as I will be adding an amp a little further down the road.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought some JBL 6.75 that were terrible and swapped to the CS Kickers with no regrets. I have never been a Kicker fan, but I really do like the CS series. My kenwood Excelon pushes these speakers without distortion or clipping unlike the JBL's. I bought these for temporary until I found an upgraded alternator for my Kia Sephia with the intention of running an active JL Audio C5 component setup to complete my two JL 10W3v3s.

Pros: Crisp highs, accurate mid bass. Can be ran with low RMS without clipping or distortion.

Cons: For the cost, cons are N/A

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My girlfriend's 1992 Miata needed some new speakers to replace the blown ones. I selected the Kicker 40CS674 as Crutchfield shows no brackets required. Super easy install with the provided Mastersheet. I did have to drill holes to mount, and I'm not that mechanically inclined but finish the install of the two door speakers in about 30 minutes. Thanks Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy install, sounds better than stock.
