Kicker 40CS674

It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS674 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-3/4" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter
  • power range: 2-100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-7/8"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Silverado Speakers

Written by: caveman01 from willmar, MN on January 28, 2016

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My rear Silverado speakers were very weak, I need to adjust the stings so almost all sound is coming from the rear to hear them. The Crutchfield rep said these new kickers would help. They did not. They do have a little better sound then the stock speakers.

Pros:

Cons: Door panel removal instructions were not very good-had a horrible time reassembling. Speaker mounting did not have any instructions.

I got these to replace the stock speakers in my 2001 Altima as they were pretty well shot. Even without tweaking the EQ they sounded killer right away. Then with a little bit of EQ tweaking they sounded INCREDIBLE. Really killer sound for a reasonable price.

Pros: Sound quality, look cool I guess, not really sure what else to say. Really tight bass response, crisp highs, balanced mids, absolutely no complaints.

Cons: Can't really think of any.

Replaced the OEM speakers in the front and rear doors of my 1998 GMC Jimmy with these Kicker 40CS674's. The old speakers were dried up and shot. These are of much better quality than the OEM's and they sound great. The fit was very good using the original mounting brackets, and I only had to re-drill new mounting holes. They have much more base than the OEM's. Crutchfield was great to work with, and their support was extremely helpful.

Pros: Great OEM replacements!

Cons: None.

2004 Saturn ION 2
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The package was very well packed with shipping peanuts to protect them. Initially one of the boxes was a little rough around the edges but the product itself was perfectly clean. The look was very nice and the materials are really nice. The speaker just already feels more powerful. Now install time, my sets came with a wiring harness included to easy connect to a GMC harness which made these a drop in replacement. No alterations needed. After installing them the year leafy had much crisper highs and deeper lows. I recommend running them in for at least a week to a month before really blasting them so they can loosen up and reach peak performance. These speakers alone give a good a good shaking basson the stock receiver so having an aftermarket one will really get you going. These are fully reccomended, well worth the price for starter after market speakers. If you can afford find some 3-way speakers to get better mid range but these are a great upgrade over stock.

Pros: Good materials, look great, materials are solid and has a large magnet, dropped right in with no extra work, POWERRRRR. Can't go wrong with kicker.

Cons:

Arrived on time in perfect condition. Very easy install with no mods required to rear doors on my 2001 Suburban. Only issue was getting the old speakers out. After removing the screws, I needed to use a putty knife to pry the old factory speakers out of their enclosures due to some contact adhesive holding them in.

Pros: Good lows and a nice match to the newer Polk db651's up front which have less base but sweet highs.

Cons: Wish they went on sale sooner!

2007 GMC Sierra
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Overall the install was a great experience. I can remember when I was younger, installing speakers and radios was an nightmare. All the new helpful brackets and wiring harnesses made things a lot more pleasant. The only beef I have is one pair of my speaker adaptors were broken, but with all that night mare experience I have accumulated over the rough years, I just glued them bad boys back together and put them in any way. One day I might get a tuner to go with the new speakers and maybe I might even get an amp to push a little more bass. but for now I am pleased with everything accept the brackets being broken. Probably happened during shipping I'm sure. Just make sure you check all your components for damage before you begin your install.

Pros: Easy as pie install

Cons: Damaged goods

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

all the products were great. The front adapters fit ok when you used the Boom Mat Speaker Baffles, otherwise they would not have been as tight to the trim. The 6 3/4 did not fit in the original holes, I had to drill some extras. The rears speakers didn't have adapters. I cut out the old speaker and used the original Gm bracket. They fit to tight with the Boom Mats. But with a sharp knife and some cutting and drilling of new holes they fit pretty good. If you do this , check YouTube for hints and keep some 1/2 foam door gasket stuff around. All in all, I am very happy the way these Kickers have made my original radio sound. I would do it again.

Pros: great sound for the money

Cons: did not fit as easy as they made it sound, but not to bad.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers to replace my factory door speakers which where JBLs. These sound just as good to my ears...with quite a bit of bass and clear and crisp highs. Two things really made this purchase great: 1) Crutchfield knew which adapter I needed for my car and sent that free with the speakers, and 2) they e-mailed installation instructions to me soon after my purchase. It was nice to be able to plan ahead and know what I needed to do and what tools I needed for removal and re-installation of my door panels.

Pros: - Hard to beat the price for the sound quality - Installation instructions and adaptors where sent free-of-charge

Cons: - None

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Noticed an improvement over OEM miata speakers. My OEM, front speakers, were still working. However, I needed a minor speaker upgrade. The kicker's did the job, it's much louder with clearer sound. BTW, the Kicker's were driven by my Head unit an AMP would surely maximize it's true potential.

Pros: Plenty of power for everyday listening, but don't expect any decent bass. You need a sub & AMP for that.

Cons: I had to drill 1 hole on each speaker to avoid drilling the door. No big deal it was worth it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Used these to change out rattling stock speakers in the rear deck of my 1997 Mercedes E320. The fit was perfect but the instructions missed a minor detail about how to remove the back head rests - they were saying push them out with lots of force but the correct way is to pull the black tab to the front of the vehicle and it come out like jelly (after almost giving up 'cause that thing couldn't come out even with a crow bar). The sound quality is a definite upgrade. This added to the overall component system makes me feel good. Good top end clarity. Speaker technology has really developed over the past few decades. Now I need some low volume bass kick so I'll try a compact subwoofer and figure out where it will fit. Crutchfield is very good with customer service. Cutting edge company. Tech folks are knowledgeable and shipping is fast. Overall good experience.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

One of my rear speakers broke in my 2012 Elantra and I knew the best place to go was Crutchfield.com. Using the fit guide and reviews, I selected the Kickers as a replacement set. The installation presented some challenges, as the installation instructions didn't state clearly the I would have to modify the speaker brackets; so I would encourage Crutchfield to consider updating its instructions.

Once I got the speakers installed and fired up Rush's "Permanent Waves", I could tell the speakers were well worth the effort! Bass is much stronger and clean, and overall sound is significantly better than the factory speakers. My only problem now is that I guess I will have to replace the front set. ;-)

Pros: Strong bass. Crutchfield tech support.

Cons: Installation instructions could have been a little more clear. I had to call Crutchfield support twice to seek clarification.

Initially I just wanted to replace 2 blown factory door speakers, then I installed these & had to purchase 2 more Kickers for the other doors...Then a new HU...Then a powered sub. Now I'm completely overjoyed with my sound. These babies rock! Loud & Soft & crystal clear, I'm hearing lyrics & percussions in songs that I've never heard before, awesome! Of course you can find a better speaker...but you're gonna have to pay buttloads more!!! Bottom line, you WILL love these, you may or may not need a sub to complete the bottom end, & once you DO get the sub, welcome to LaLa-Land baby!

Pros: Crisp, clean, & punchy mids thru highs. Flat tweeter profile accommodates most

Cons: Not really any with the speaker itself. I had to fabricate a harness out of sheet metal to fit my factory bracket.

The speakers have very clean and loud sound, much better than the stock speakers. The bass is much weaker than the stock speakers, but with a small amp in sure that can be fixed. I was hoping for more bass from a company that started with subwoofers.

Pros: Very clear sound, louder than stock speakers

Cons: Even with the bass turned up on the equalizer they are still lacking in bass. Might be fixed with an amp, but that is additional $$

Very good speaker with good bass. Fit exactly in the Suzuki Vitara 2001 front doors (of 4 doors). The connectors were somewhat difficult to attach to the speaker harness. I expand the harness female connector by the fear of bent the speaker male connector. The sound, great. These speaker replace two non-working original. Now I have two doors that rumble.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are quite good for the price. They have accurate highs and lows and even though it is not a component system, the crossover doesn't seem to be too bad. That being said, you will need an amplifier in order to truly hear and feel what these speakers can do. For general listening purposes, hooking these up to a stock radio is a good choice, but their are cheaper options than these speakers. Their value truly lies in how much you can push them and their potential for upgrade ability. I am currently only powering these speakers with a Kenwood receiver that gives each speaker 22 watts RMS, so it begins to approach the optimal power of the speakers, but it really needs more for the mid-bass notes. These speakers look good, sound good, and have tons of room for a power upgrade.

Pros: Clean sound Allows for powering up your system Looks good Good price

Cons: A somewhat low sensitivity Not as efficient as other speakers around the same price Needs an amplifier to truly wake up the system (this is only because I love bass and is not a direct fault of the speakers)

On the recommendation of a crutchfield adviser, I replaced all of the door speakers with these kicker 40CS674. I kept the factory stereo and have no amp on these and they sound beautiful! The improvement over stock is well worth the price of these kickers. The bass for my system is handled by 2 - JL Audio 10W0v3-4 Subs n a Sound Ordnance Bass Bunker Sealed dual 10" subwoofer enclosure powered by the Rockford Fosgate R500X1D Prime Series mono subwoofer amplifier. For a system that keeps the factory stereo, I think it sounds amazing.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

When looking for speakers, pay attention to the Frequency Response range listed in the SPECIFICATIONS tab. This one goes all the way down to 45 Hertz. The lower the low end of the range is, the more bass. Don't expect massive bass with these of course, they're not subs. Paired with my Alpine HU and the Alpine Power Pack, it works really well for my taste. (And it really is a matter of taste with sound right. Mine does not involve rattling license plates or dimming headlights that then require a capacitor between your battery and the amps and the...ahh, reminiscing my high school years.)

Pros: Good fidelity for the price. Compared to the Alpine SPR-60's (which I had in my truck first), I preferred these Kickers more again due to the lower end frequency range.

Cons: Be aware that if you specifically have a 1998 4Runner, the screw holes on these speakers won't align with the screw holes on the factory speaker assembly where this attaches to. This is also the case with the SPR-60's so it's not a speaker issue but more the age of the vehicle. They can't accomodate all the radius measurements across all years of vehicles so it's a matter of demand and supply. No prob tho, I used screws with a wide head to hold them firm.

Facts and what you need to know.

Written by: Charlie from New York on January 2, 2015

Ok So everyone hearts different things with speakers what you hear maybe someone else hears something different. So I going to go with only facts and explaine them for you to help you truly know and understand these. So I bought a bunch of speakers and compared them all and bottom line no other speaker produced the bass these did not even my monster Jbl p660c components amped and not amped these blew all other away with bass. Now instead of just saying these are great and loud I'll get into detail about them, First off a fact no matter what you listen to and weather your doors are deadened(highly recommend) or not you will get bass out of these. That's their biggest plus that's what stands out the most. Next is their tweeter. It's loud crisp sharp and pretty accurate. Also because kicker made these for stock replacements the tweeter is lower inside the speaker which actually helps imaging because the tweeter high actually get spread and pushed by the cone if you will and makes for a fuller louder sound. Next fact is the ease of install I mean so easy these will most likely fit into 5 1/4 openings that's how shallow and thin they are. (Do not let their size fool you the look puny but sound full and loud) one of my favorite this is the basket it has so many different shapes and opening for screws to accommodate any car. That's whatt kicker did great with these is make them insanely easy to install for any car. These only have one flaw, no crossovers distort at high volumes.

Pros: BASS Crisp tight high end LOUD( put polk db6501 to shame) Insanely easy to install easier than any other speaker

Cons: Distortion at high volume no crossovers to clean sound only drawback.

The speakers sound great and fairly easy to install. Installed the speakers (X 4) in a 2007 Chevy Silverado crew cab, replacing the factory system.

Pros: They were delivered in a couple of days even before I received the tracking information, this was during the Christmas rush.

Cons: The mounting clips didn't have any instructions, one of them even broke very easily so we used self-taping screws for the front door speakers but we were able to use the factory screws and mounting holes for the rear door speakers. The rear door speakers were .0825" too big (diameter) so we had to use a die grinder to remove a little material from the factory mounting housing and the they slid right in.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my Dad to replace blown factory units. I just got a call from him about him installing them. He is not mechanically inclined but wanted to try it. He said it went without a hitch and the included wiring adapters did the trick. He said he's just as happy as could be with the sound. He says it's much better than when his truck was new. (2003 GMC Sierra ext. cab) (Had to drill new fastener holes for these ever so slightly over sized speakers) He said he wished he would have done this long ago. As for my end I'll say that the price was more that competitive when comparing quality products and the free included model specific instructions and installation aids sealed the deal for me. Product arrived quickly, as described, and in perfect condition. I'll be ordering again from Crutchfield for sure.

Pros: Fast shipping. Good Packaging. Competitive Pricing. Included installation Materials. Vehicle Specific Directions.

Cons: Really only 1 very minor issue. Needing to drill new fastener holes for the speaker to mount properly. This is easily done, but it is an added step.

Written by: Criteeker from California on December 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for the front doors of my GMC Envoy. I also purchased the baffles. The baffles should be opened to allow some breathing when moving air and the wires to pass through. Since my doors had some water inside them (for some strange reason) I suggest using a plastic bag over the connection with Zip-Ties on each end. The sound is decent for a 2-way speaker so if you're not going to use an amp and sub, don;t expect amazing sound, just better sound than most factory garbage. With the baffles, you might not want to use spacers, but you might have to use a Dremel to cut away the factory housing to allow the speaker to fit.

Pros: decent sound, decent thump

Cons: items stored in my door panels become rattles

Pros: Good speaker/same as stock bose

Cons: Guess I was just hoping for more.

Great speaker for the money.

Replaced my factory speakers with these. I don't notice a big difference...in fact I left one side in and put the other side in and played some music...really couldn't tell. Maybe I'm deaf or don't appreciate the little subtle differences...but I think I could've saved some money and did nothing...I'm not unhappy with these...just not blown away.

Clean replacement for Trans Am sail panel speakers

2000 Pontiac Firebird
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After viewing several speakers from different manufacturers, at the suggestion of a Crutchfield advisor, I replaced the two damaged stock Monsoon sail panel speakers in my 2001 Trans Am with these Kickers. The fit was close to exact, wiring simple and the sound is clean. They don't give (often annoying) boomy bass, but do deliver the clean bass I want to hear. and appreciate. Great suggestion, Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy, quick installation with no modifications other than simple bypass of the harness connectors necessary. I soldered the factory wires to the supplied connectors and used the original speakers' screws and nuts. It was an easy half-hour job. The price was right for what I wanted.

Cons: None to date.

2006 Pontiac Vibe
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered 4 of these speakers to replace the stock units in a 2006 Pontiac Vibe. The front speakers went in without a hitch, however, the rear speakers required a bit more work. The speakers themselves fit the old opening just fine but the supplied adapter ring/bracket that they mounted in was another story. I ended up having to actually trim some of the adapter ring itself to fit the door panel and had to drill two (2) holes in the panel to mount the bracket on each of the rear doors. This wouldn't have been a huge deal except there was no indication at all when buying these that they would be anything but a good fit. Mounting issues aside these speakers are a GREAT sounding upgrade to stock and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them just make sure you do as much research as possible to find out if there will be mounting issues.

Pros: Fantastic upgrade over stock.

Cons: Mounting issues need to be explained or pointed out before purchase. It's not a pleasant surprise to find out you have to drill into a car when you weren't expecting it.

2004 Chevrolet Suburban
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Suburban that sounded awful because the stock paper speakers had failed. I really didn't know where or what to look for, but CJ from Crutchfield made it happen. He chose the Kicker 40CS674 for the (2) front doors and (2) middle doors. It made a world of difference and sounded even better than it did stock! I paid an easy price and they came with everything I needed. I installed them all in less than an hour. Definite thumbs up to Crutchfield and Kicker for the quality and support. Thanks again.

Pros: -Awesome design -Looks great -Sounds as good as they look -Install was a breeze!

Cons: None whatsoever. The only thing I can think of anyone complaining about is some may need to drill new holes. Seriously though, it's an extra minute or 2 of your time and it's really not a big deal at all. Buy these if you're thinking about it.

This was a great adition for my 1998 Nissan frontier. They really added to the sound quality. I took out the factory speakers that were all torn apart. It does not have enough bad for my taste, but that's why I bought a subwoofer. Which was also a kicker and putting these two together makes my system really come together.

Speakers work great, they were NOT a direct replacement on my 2004 Trailblazer. I had to cut and grind the stock speaker mounting brackets to get them to fit. Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not 100 watts rms each only 50 each which was disappointing. Bass is kinda non existent even when they are fully powered by my polk audio 660 4 channel. For the money they are decent filler speakers

Pros: Okay price for what you get

Cons: Not actually that powerful. Distortion at 45rms or more They are kicker

Crutchfield response on August 18, 2014 We're sorry to hear that you're not happy with these speakers. They can indeed handle up to 100 watts RMS, so they should be able to handle the 75 watts RMS from your Polk amp easily. Before taking them out, give our Tech Support team a call. They might be able to suggest some adjustments to your amp or stereo to dial in the output so you get a better performance.

2004 Volvo S60
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The 6.75in speakers from Kicker, actually measure closer to 6.5in. This worked out great for the 2004 Volvo S60 installation. I used the same speaker model in all 4 doors and with some creative work I was able to reuse the OEM factory mounting brackets as well. The car sounds better than when it was new. Mids and highs are clear, and the mid-bass is fantastic.

Pros: Fit and sound are great for this price point

Cons: none

2000 Nissan Altima
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in my 2000 Altima SE last weekend, replacing stock speakers. The difference in sound quality is HUGE. Highs and mid-range are clear and crisp. Bass is adequate but not great. I have to agree with some other reviewers' comments that if you want deep, resounding bass you'll need to add a sub-woofer to this speaker set. Having said that, this was an easy install and a very worthwhile upgrade. Good "bang for the buck". Crutchfield MasterSheet instructions were clear and accurate.

Pros: Good value. Clear mid-range and highs; adequate bass. Simple installation.

Cons: Lacks deep bass response; could use a sub-woofer.

2011 Scion xB
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a tough review to post. I'd read on forums and such very diverse opinions on speakers and audio head units, which makes the bigger difference. I can clearly say the head unit being replaced in my 2011 Scion xB was the biggest improvement. It brought the audio system to life. But, I had already bought these Kickers for all 4 doors, so, I wanted to complete this leg of the journey to see the further improvement. So, the install was fairly easy, thanks to Crutchfield (again). Cranked up, they do offer obvious clarity and quality over the stock speakers, especially the rears. I do have to say, still, that they seem to be fairly easy to push too hard with bass. Being a bass player and drummer, and music producer, I like DEEP bass I can hear AND feel, and crystal clear highs. These speakers have a good range, but I still seem to think I need to add the subwoofer. Can pound these with bass, as I'd hoped I possibly could. Solid B to B+ grade for this price range.

Pros: Great, clear sound that's punchy and can be warm.

Cons: Easy to push too hard with bass, for my taste. Might still want a sub, if you like tons of bass, bordering on overkill without ruining overall mix.
