Kicker 40CS674

It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS674 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6-3/4" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Product Highlights:

  • 2-way 6-3/4" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter
  • power range: 2-100 watts RMS (300 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 40-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 90 dB
  • top-mount depth: 1-7/8"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Why replace your factory speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

Great choice for the money

Written By Steven P, Saint Rose, IL on Sunday, March 22, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

For the small price unpaid for these speakers I am astounded by the sound quality that comes from them for such a low cost. Deep rich lows and peaking highs allow for a great replacement of my stock speakers at a low price overal.

Pros: Medium Price, quality craftsmanship, great sound & easy mounting

Cons: Grills are wasted when using for stock replacements in doors

awesome speakers.

Written By Phil, Sutherland, Virginia on Wednesday, March 18, 2015

I installed these speakers in the front doors of my 2000 Chevy silverado with ease. All I had to do was drill four mounting screw holes for each. What an amazing difference between these and the factory speakers.I purchased mine locally though because I wanted them right away and I paid a lower price with no shipping cost.

Pros: Easy install and good sound for the price.

Great speakers, poor install hardware

Written By Jon M, Minnesota on Tuesday, February 10, 2015

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Got 2 sets to replace all the speakers in my chevy colorado. As far as the speakers go, sound quality is very good. only downside to these was the mounting screws that come with it. they are just cheap crap. after 1 speaker went in the second i had trouble with the screws threads just smashing while trying to screw in. I just went to the hardware store and bought some 1" #8 self tapping sheet metal screws. had to go back to the first speaker 2 weeks after install and swap out the original screws for the better ones i bought as it began to loosen and rattle.

Pros: sound quality is great

Cons: mounting hardware is cheap, go by better screws for a few bucks

I bought as an upgrade to the factory door speakers in a 14 tundra. Sound is definitely better with a improvement to bass. Installation was easy, only possible issue is the termination points they felt flimsy but I did not have any problems. looking forward hearing them after a few other mods.

Pros: Sound is good.

Cons: Termination points.

Facts and what you need to know.

Written By Charlie, New York on Friday, January 02, 2015

Ok So everyone hearts different things with speakers what you hear maybe someone else hears something different. So I going to go with only facts and explaine them for you to help you truly know and understand these. So I bought a bunch of speakers and compared them all and bottom line no other speaker produced the bass these did not even my monster Jbl p660c components amped and not amped these blew all other away with bass. Now instead of just saying these are great and loud I'll get into detail about them, First off a fact no matter what you listen to and weather your doors are deadened(highly recommend) or not you will get bass out of these. That's their biggest plus that's what stands out the most. Next is their tweeter. It's loud crisp sharp and pretty accurate. Also because kicker made these for stock replacements the tweeter is lower inside the speaker which actually helps imaging because the tweeter high actually get spread and pushed by the cone if you will and makes for a fuller louder sound. Next fact is the ease of install I mean so easy these will most likely fit into 5 1/4 openings that's how shallow and thin they are. (Do not let their size fool you the look puny but sound full and loud) one of my favorite this is the basket it has so many different shapes and opening for screws to accommodate any car. That's whatt kicker did great with these is make them insanely easy to install for any car. These only have one flaw, no crossovers distort at high volumes.

Pros: BASS Crisp tight high end LOUD( put polk db6501 to shame) Insanely easy to install easier than any other speaker

Cons: Distortion at high volume no crossovers to clean sound only drawback.

Slight Modifaction Was Needed

Written By Glen, Rowlett, TX on Monday, December 29, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers sound great and fairly easy to install. Installed the speakers (X 4) in a 2007 Chevy Silverado crew cab, replacing the factory system.

Pros: They were delivered in a couple of days even before I received the tracking information, this was during the Christmas rush.

Cons: The mounting clips didn't have any instructions, one of them even broke very easily so we used self-taping screws for the front door speakers but we were able to use the factory screws and mounting holes for the rear door speakers. The rear door speakers were .0825" too big (diameter) so we had to use a die grinder to remove a little material from the factory mounting housing and the they slid right in.

Happy Dad

Written By DusterP94, Middle of the IN/OH line on Saturday, December 27, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these for my Dad to replace blown factory units. I just got a call from him about him installing them. He is not mechanically inclined but wanted to try it. He said it went without a hitch and the included wiring adapters did the trick. He said he's just as happy as could be with the sound. He says it's much better than when his truck was new. (2003 GMC Sierra ext. cab) (Had to drill new fastener holes for these ever so slightly over sized speakers) He said he wished he would have done this long ago. As for my end I'll say that the price was more that competitive when comparing quality products and the free included model specific instructions and installation aids sealed the deal for me. Product arrived quickly, as described, and in perfect condition. I'll be ordering again from Crutchfield for sure.

Pros: Fast shipping. Good Packaging. Competitive Pricing. Included installation Materials. Vehicle Specific Directions.

Cons: Really only 1 very minor issue. Needing to drill new fastener holes for the speaker to mount properly. This is easily done, but it is an added step.

Kickin It - part 1

Written By Criteeker, California on Tuesday, December 16, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased these speakers for the front doors of my GMC Envoy. I also purchased the baffles. The baffles should be opened to allow some breathing when moving air and the wires to pass through. Since my doors had some water inside them (for some strange reason) I suggest using a plastic bag over the connection with Zip-Ties on each end. The sound is decent for a 2-way speaker so if you're not going to use an amp and sub, don;t expect amazing sound, just better sound than most factory garbage. With the baffles, you might not want to use spacers, but you might have to use a Dremel to cut away the factory housing to allow the speaker to fit.

Pros: decent sound, decent thump

Cons: items stored in my door panels become rattles

Nice speakers but mounting hardware is unusable. very soft sheet metal screws that strip or break easily and their attempt at blind nuts are a tiny piece of sheet metal

Pros: good sound and well made speaker

Cons: Horrible mounting hardware, plan on using your own. Which is unfortunate because you need black screws to match grille

This is for a 2008 Sierra Denali with bose and after market head unit. (OGM1). These speakers are about the same as my stock bose. If your stock speakers are bose and working good I would not call these an upgrade. But one of mine went out so these will work just fine.

Clean replacement for Trans Am sail panel speakers

Written By WS6, NJ on Thursday, November 06, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After viewing several speakers from different manufacturers, at the suggestion of a Crutchfield advisor, I replaced the two damaged stock Monsoon sail panel speakers in my 2001 Trans Am with these Kickers. The fit was close to exact, wiring simple and the sound is clean. They don't give (often annoying) boomy bass, but do deliver the clean bass I want to hear. and appreciate. Great suggestion, Crutchfield!

Pros: Easy, quick installation with no modifications other than simple bypass of the harness connectors necessary. I soldered the factory wires to the supplied connectors and used the original speakers' screws and nuts. It was an easy half-hour job. The price was right for what I wanted.

Cons: None to date.

Great Sound - Rear needs modification

Written By Fudoshin, High Point, NC on Monday, October 06, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered 4 of these speakers to replace the stock units in a 2006 Pontiac Vibe. The front speakers went in without a hitch, however, the rear speakers required a bit more work. The speakers themselves fit the old opening just fine but the supplied adapter ring/bracket that they mounted in was another story. I ended up having to actually trim some of the adapter ring itself to fit the door panel and had to drill two (2) holes in the panel to mount the bracket on each of the rear doors. This wouldn't have been a huge deal except there was no indication at all when buying these that they would be anything but a good fit. Mounting issues aside these speakers are a GREAT sounding upgrade to stock and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them just make sure you do as much research as possible to find out if there will be mounting issues.

Pros: Fantastic upgrade over stock.

Cons: Mounting issues need to be explained or pointed out before purchase. It's not a pleasant surprise to find out you have to drill into a car when you weren't expecting it.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a Suburban that sounded awful because the stock paper speakers had failed. I really didn't know where or what to look for, but CJ from Crutchfield made it happen. He chose the Kicker 40CS674 for the (2) front doors and (2) middle doors. It made a world of difference and sounded even better than it did stock! I paid an easy price and they came with everything I needed. I installed them all in less than an hour. Definite thumbs up to Crutchfield and Kicker for the quality and support. Thanks again.

Pros: -Awesome design -Looks great -Sounds as good as they look -Install was a breeze!

Cons: None whatsoever. The only thing I can think of anyone complaining about is some may need to drill new holes. Seriously though, it's an extra minute or 2 of your time and it's really not a big deal at all. Buy these if you're thinking about it.

This was a great adition for my 1998 Nissan frontier. They really added to the sound quality. I took out the factory speakers that were all torn apart. Not 100 watts rms each only 50 each which was disappointing. Bass is kinda non existent even when they are fully powered by my polk audio 660 4 channel. For the money they are decent filler speakers

Pros: Okay price for what you get

Cons: Not actually that powerful. Distortion at 45rms or more They are kicker

Crutchfield response on Monday, August 18, 2014 We're sorry to hear that you're not happy with these speakers. They can indeed handle up to 100 watts RMS, so they should be able to handle the 75 watts RMS from your Polk amp easily. Before taking them out, give our Tech Support team a call. They might be able to suggest some adjustments to your amp or stereo to dial in the output so you get a better performance.

The 6.75in speakers from Kicker, actually measure closer to 6.5in. This worked out great for the 2004 Volvo S60 installation. I used the same speaker model in all 4 doors and with some creative work I was able to reuse the OEM factory mounting brackets as well. The car sounds better than when it was new. Mids and highs are clear, and the mid-bass is fantastic.

Pros: Fit and sound are great for this price point

Cons: none

Great value speakers, need a little more bass

Written By JeffS, South Plainfield, NJ on Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Installed these in my 2000 Altima SE last weekend, replacing stock speakers. The difference in sound quality is HUGE. Highs and mid-range are clear and crisp. Bass is adequate but not great. I have to agree with some other reviewers' comments that if you want deep, resounding bass you'll need to add a sub-woofer to this speaker set. Having said that, this was an easy install and a very worthwhile upgrade. Good "bang for the buck". Crutchfield MasterSheet instructions were clear and accurate.

Pros: Good value. Clear mid-range and highs; adequate bass. Simple installation.

Cons: Lacks deep bass response; could use a sub-woofer.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a tough review to post. I'd read on forums and such very diverse opinions on speakers and audio head units, which makes the bigger difference. I can clearly say the head unit being replaced in my 2011 Scion xB was the biggest improvement. It brought the audio system to life. But, I had already bought these Kickers for all 4 doors, so, I wanted to complete this leg of the journey to see the further improvement. So, the install was fairly easy, thanks to Crutchfield (again). Cranked up, they do offer obvious clarity and quality over the stock speakers, especially the rears. I do have to say, still, that they seem to be fairly easy to push too hard with bass. Being a bass player and drummer, and music producer, I like DEEP bass I can hear AND feel, and crystal clear highs. These speakers have a good range, but I still seem to think I need to add the subwoofer. Can pound these with bass, as I'd hoped I possibly could. Solid B to B+ grade for this price range.

Pros: Great, clear sound that's punchy and can be warm.

Cons: Easy to push too hard with bass, for my taste. Might still want a sub, if you like tons of bass, bordering on overkill without ruining overall mix.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Well made great sounding speakers. Exact fit. Glad I choice the polymer over the treated paper type because the original speakers outer edge just disintegrated. My recommendation, as soon as you notice your speakers not sounding quite right, replace them. BIG difference.

Pros: Great sound range, highs and lows, handles lots of base.

Cons: No cons

Good sound

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very clear even when cranked all the way up. Can hear them from far away outside of the vehicle also. Only downside is that they don't have as good of bass as most of the reviews make it out to be.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed a pair of speakers for my Camaro Convertible and the local catch wasn't good enough. I needed BASS for the front doors. I researched Crutchfield and lots of reviews mentioned the lower end frequencies of these speakers. I am not disappointed.

To make it better I got them on the "scratch and dent" sell. I was worried they would come to me trashed but were in awesome condition! For those of you looking for details, the car is a 95 camaro z28 convertible with a 200w aftermarket headunit and no amps or subs. Absolutely no fitment issues. fit perfectly.

Not only did they have good base but they had surprisingly good treble as well. My real speakers were ok with bass but great with treble. So I thought until I got these. Now they don't stand up.

Pros: Great bass surprisingly good treble Perfect fitment Super price on the Scratch & Dent sell Hide well behind the stock grills not to showy

Cons: uh... none?

Breathing New Sound Into My Traverse

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The speakers are adequately packaged against damage and everything you need for the installation is included (hardware, wiring leads, crimps). The installation is pretty easy and straightforward.

I would warn anyone installing these speakers in a Chevy Traverse that the wiring harness color codes change from speaker position to position throughout the vehicle. Rule of thumb - the darker of the two leads at the installation position is the match for the grey/black speaker lead included with the speakers.

Pros: Good quality sound from the speakers.

Cons: The MasterSheet from Crutchfield is very good except for the information pertaining to the rear door speakers. The information and photograph for the Bose equipped vehicle is incorrect. You will need the Scoche adapter bracket for the rear doors.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers, they made a 100% difference once I tuned the radio. I am now thinking about buying Kickers for the rear.

Pros: Easily installed into my 09 Malibu and made a good improvement in sound.

Cons: Nothing really.
