Our take on the Kicker 40CS6934

by John Pollard
Kicker

Why replace your car's original speakers?

The speakers that originally came in your car were made from inexpensive materials, designed to create acceptable sound at the lowest possible cost to the manufacturer. If you love music, you deserve better. Name-brand aftermarket speakers deliver fuller, richer sound with considerably more detail and nuance, and they're capable of playing louder and cleaner than factory speakers. Connect new speakers to your factory radio and you'll get the best possible sound from your dealer-equipped system. Pair them up with a new car stereo for a level of enjoyment that can rival a high-fidelity home audio experience.

It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Built tough

Kicker's 40CS6934 speaker set provides low-end from a tough 6"x9" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter and 2" polypropylene midrange take care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. These speakers sound great powered by a factory radio or an aftermarket car stereo, and they'll really rock when connected to an external amplifier. Grilles are included.

Highlights:

  • 3-way 6"x9" speakers (pair)
  • polypropylene woofer cone with polyester foam surround
  • 1/2" PEI balanced dome tweeter and 2" polypropylene dome midrange
  • power range: 2-150 watts RMS (450 watts peak power)
  • frequency response: 30-20,000 Hz
  • sensitivity: 92 dB
  • top-mount depth: 3-1/4"
  • warranty: 1 year
  • Our 60-day money-back guarantee

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

Tweeters: Each speaker features a 1/2" PEI (Poly-Ether-Imide) balanced-dome tweeter; PEI is a polymer film that produces a wide soundstage for superior imaging. A semi-dome tweeter has a dome placed inside a cone. Balanced dome tweeters are semi-dome tweeters with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the tweeter.

2" Dome Midrange: The 2" dome midranges provide a strong response in the critical midrange band where the majority of the vocals are located.

I recently bought a Kenwood Bluetooth enabled head unit an upgraded my factory speakers with these kicker speakers the 450 watt speakers 6 by 9 in the rear deck sounds great the installation was so simple with the instructions that Crutchfield give I think my son could have done it. I haven't got as far as putting an amp on them yet but I can only imagine how they would sound then I get plenty of Bass from the deck and no distortion what so ever they sound clear when you playing some Louis Armstrong or if you want some bass and playing some Dr Dre these speakers have a wide range of quality sound I put the 6x8 in the door

These are well made, rich sounding speakers that can upgrade a stock system all by themselves. Made a big difference in bass, overall volume level and stereo imaging.
Pros:
Frequency response, efficiency, quality materials used. Should last a long time.
Cons:
Could have included better mounting bolts & nuts. The speed nuts cracked as I used them so I used standard hardware store nuts & bolts for installation.

Beware the power sensitivity

Written By Scott S, Anchorage, AK on Friday, March 14, 2014

Heads up--just because the speaker dimensions fit doesn't mean they will work well with the rest of your system. In my case, Crutchfield rep helped me select a pair of these Kickers, which sound fine, but their sensitivity is so much lower than the rest of my car's (OEM) speakers that they kickers get drowned. Only solution is to replace ALL of your car's OEM speakers at the same time--a costly proposition, and one which Crutchfield sales reps don't tell you at the time of sale. My new Kickers are now headed for Craig's List...
Pros:
Price
Cons:
Doesn't work well with the rest of my OEM system

Great Speakers

Written By eicht, Iowa on Tuesday, March 04, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I installed these in a 2012 Chrysler 300C. They are a marked improvement over the stock speakers. Enhance the highs and mids that were not very "crisp" with stock. I was hoping the bass responce would be a little better, but they are not designed to be a sub-woofer so I dont think the speakers are to blame. All in all, I am very pleased with these speakers.
Pros:
Nice crisp highs and mids. Improved bass response over stock.
Cons:
Only three of the four screw holes lined up. Had to drill one on each side. This is the only reason I gave four instead of five. These are very good speakers.

Great sounding speaker and a great replacement for the rear door speakers on the 2014 Ram with Alpine system. They do NOT fit perfectly and require using the included screws to secure to the door panel instead of the OEM locations. This was not expected but was not a huge deal.
Pros:
Great sounds
Cons:
Not an exact fit - Kenwood should be better at this...

I bought these as a replacement to my stock speakers in my Honda . I am using a pioneer headset and these speakers are bumping . I get enough boom that I dont have to keep my sub on all the time. Crutchfield sent great instructions and the wiring harness they sent makes this job a piece of cake and I'm no tec.
Pros:
Good sound and bass. Wiring harness made a huge difference .

Great Speakers, Didn't really fit too well though

Written By MikeB, Louisville,KY on Friday, February 28, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great speakers at a low cost, I mean they aren't going to sound super amazing, but for the price you pay they are definitely an upgrade over the factory speakers. The bass does get distorted the higher the volume goes, but I'm sure I could make them sing if I hooked them up to an amp.

My only complaint was that Crutchfield said this would fit in my 2004 Chevy Malibu Classic, not a modified fit, just a fit. Well that wasn't true... The bracket that holds the magnet in place was much bulkier than my factory 6x9 so it did not fit in the tear drop opening and it wasn't flush with the speaker grills that went over top. Needless to say I had to bend part of the opening to allow a wider opening. After that they were fine, but just something I wanted to note.
Pros:
Great Sound, Low Price Sturdy design
Cons:
Didn't not fit without modification from my end

Kicker 40CS6934

Written By MGBguy, Vermont on Monday, January 27, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I replaced the rear deck speakers in my 2006 Honda Accord Sedan. The original speakers were lightweights compared to the Kickers. The Kickers offer more bass and a brighter sound when adjusted via the original OEM receiver/ 6-CD changer. I like my tunes on the road, but I'm not going to drop a bundle on car audio. That being said, the Kickers are quite an improvement and within my modest budget.
Pros:
Improved sound quality on a budget. Easy installation; with props to Crutchfield's MasterSheet re: Honda Accord. Thumbs up for including the OEM to aftermarket speaker adapters! Another reason to order from Crutchfield.
Cons:
Two minor issues; I could only get two diagonal screws to line up on each speaker to match the holes on the Accord. I may address this when the weather warms up. Also the Kickers sit a bit higher in the Accord's rear deck recess. I had to trim the "oval" flange under the rear speaker grills with a dremel cut off wheel to allow the grills to pop into place..

Great Bass and crisp mid and high range

Written By IrishDad, Carlise PA on Wednesday, January 22, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

My son wanted good bass and I didnt want to go as far as amped Subwoofers. These were a perfect compromise! Bass reverberates throughout his 2000 Eclipse (speakers face each other), and the full range satisfies me that when he grows out of the bass craze that he will be able to enjoy REAL MUSIC!....smiling ...must admit that some of the bass heavy stuff he played for me was awesome and really showed what these speakers can do. Don't tell my son, but I saved a few bucks by going with the Scratch and Dent version and they arrived flawless to my eye. Not too often that a 47 year old and a teenager can brecollective thrilled with something, but we definately are!
Pros:
Great Bass coupled with crisp mid and high range Heavy high quality materials Scratch and Dent arrived flawless
Cons:
None

Written By SuperDave, Chula Vista, CA on Monday, January 20, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I was hoping for a good speaker and a reasonable price and these Kickers have exceeded my expectations. I had considered a higher end, more expensive, component speaker system but I based on the favorable reviews these speaker received on Crutchfield, I ended up choosing these Kickers and they sound great. I paired them up with a Sony MEX-GS600BT and they sound better than the Dodge Infinity premium audio system that they replaced.
Pros:
The sound great for a variety of music at all volume levels. Excellent value for the price.
Cons:
Screw holes in factory opening required re-drilling.

Kicker Ram 1500 (2014)

Written By ET, Red Bank, NJ on Friday, January 17, 2014

I installed these in replacement of my factory speakers. These things kick butt! I like deep bass, and great hi tones as well, these speakers deliver! They actually sound so good with the deep bass it sounds like a sub is in the car. I installed these in my Ram 1500 doors, front and back on a Quad cab. A note about that: they fit right in on the back doors, had to tap one hole in the plastic to mount, no biggie, the front they hit the window track, not the window itself. So what I did was take a Dremel and cut off the little hole things off the grilles they came with, wasn't using the grilles anyway. They made for a perfect spacer between the speaker and the door, and thus not hitting the window track now. You will need the wire adapter Crutchfield supplies. Once installed these speakers work excellent with the factory 8.4 head unit, I also replaced the front dash speakers with Infinity Reference, the sound is awesome. The bass in these resonates in the vehicle just great! Highly, highly recommend.
Pros:
Great, resonating bass, tweeters and mid sound great also.
Cons:
None I can think of.

Amazing sound for the price

Written By Doug, Sweet Valley, PA on Wednesday, January 01, 2014
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Great sounding speakers for the price. We installed them in my son's car to replace the original speakers which no longer worked. My son loves the sound and said they provide a lot of bass which is one of the things he was looking for.
Pros:
Great sound at a good price
Cons:
A template for drilling the installation holes would have been very helpful. The speakers could only be placed in the rear deck of the car for marking where to drill the holes from above. However, the only way to drill the holes was from below (up from the trunk) due to the back window being in the way. A cardboard or paper template would allow us to mark the holes from below.

Great replacement for the OEM speakers in my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. I can now hear all of the highs and lows I was missing with the old paper speakers. The 6X9s were a direct bolt in and the supplied adapters made it a snap to install them. Good value for the price.

I used these speakers as stock replacements in a nissan Titan in the front doors, and with the factory radio they sound better than I had hoped for. Highs and mids are crystal clear, and the lows thump hard. Sound great at any volume. I will be using these speakers in my dodge truck as well
Pros:
Sound is amazing
Cons:
Holes didn't perfectly line up in the door panels even after the "required trimming"

A lovely unit. Nice strong bass but also heaps of treble to use. Heavy units which means you really want a good solid footing for them, but its a good sign that they have plenty behind them for either head unit or amp connection.

An excellent mid level speaker.
Pros:
Nice balance between base and treble. Clear and accurate.
Cons:
Mounting holes don't match my 2013 dodge ram crew cab exactly in the rear doors. (not the speakers fault I don't think.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers are a definitely improvement over my OEM speakers. Handles significantly more volume and bass without distorting. Also has much better high frequency with separate tweeters.

I don't buy speakers to shake the car with unrealistic boom boom boom. I look for original sound reproduction. These fit the bill much better than the original equipment.
Pros:
Easy replacement and much better sound even with my old audio receiver.
Cons:
None.

Installed into a 1992 Chevrolet Single Cab S10 (Lowered,Tinted, Flowmaster Duals, 5 Speed) These speakers were put into Sound Ordinance boxes and put behind the seat These Things are loud with there 4 Ohm impedence they really steal the power When the truck is off My Kenwood deck dims and i killed it one time this doesn't happen when the truck is running however "Cheap Battery" but these things slam hard enough to make the mirrors vibrate recommend getting an amp to show its full potential however These things are way more durable than i thought with there heavy magnets
Pros:
Loud, Cheap, Powerful, Nice
Cons:
Didn't get a Kicker Sticker :(

I purchased these speakers to replace my factory speakers and must say I was amazed by the sound and clarity. They can handle a lot of power from the Kenwood receiver that I recently purchased from Crutchfield also. I wasn't really surprised though because I knew Kicker have always had a good speaker line.
Pros:
easy to install and came with all the necessary hardware and harnesses for installation.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I'm not a stereo official by any means. So getting speakers that shound good, and were easy to install were a must. These speakers achieved this. Kicker makes a good product. They've been "in the biz" for some time now and have tried and true products. I hear excellent highs and full mid-ranges with these speakers. And when I turn up the bass on them, they handle what my Pioneer gives it. All in all, a very good speaker.

Great

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these speakers and the 5 1/4" versions within the same line to replace the factory speakers in my 2013 Dodge Challenger. I'm completely new to car audio, so Crutchfield's articles and product adviser was a huge help in finding what I needed for my car. They shipped all of the harness adapters, adapter plates, and extra things I needed for the install.

Since I'm not an audiophile I was worried that just swapping the speakers without changing the radio, adding amps, and adding a sub-woofer wouldn't be noticeable to my untrained ears. But the difference was night and day. With just one speaker plugged in and using the radio's balance feature to pan from new to old, the difference is quite noticeable. After all the speakers had been rep

My only complaints are I had to use a dremel on the metal frame of these speakers to get them to fit my door adapter. Whether that's a slightly out of spec speaker or out of spec adapter, I can't say. But it's something you might want to be aware of if you're doing a similar upgrade.

Really looking forward to hearing what these sound like when properly powered.
Pros:
Great price Ample amount of power Major improvement over stock speakers
Cons:
Had to do a bit of work with a Dremel to get them to fit factory adapter Highs are a bit harsh, but that may mellow out over time.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought these to replace my old worn out 6x9's in my Honda Accord. I give them 4 stars because mounting didn't allow me to use all four bolts. I used three as the last one wouldn't fit into place. Nice tight mid. Handles high volumes very well. Powering off my OEM HU. Doesn't distort if at all with my OEM. treble is a little higher than I'm used to. Coming from a 1 way rear, to a 3 way. Completely blows away even the BMW system in another vehicle I own.
Pros:
Tight Sound, distortion free
Cons:
Mounting.

I replaced factory speakers with these and the sound is very crisp. I wasn't expecting too much for speakers in this price range, but these speakers exceeded my expectations. I would recommend these speakers to anyone who's on a tight budget.
Pros:
Great sounding speakers and solid construction at a very good price.
Cons:
I have nothing negative to say about the product itself, but I did have to purchase speaker adapters to fit my 2006 Corolla.

I read the reviews before my purchase and they live up to what people said and then some. Replaced my rear factory speakers and brought my stereo sound to life. Defintely recommend these seakers if you don't want to spend a lot of money, but want the best bang for your buck.
Pros:
Awesome sound at an awesome price.
Cons:
On my 04 Accord could only get 2 out of the 4 holes to line up when I installed them and you have to trim down the factory speaker grille to use original grilles.

Excellent Rear Deck Speakers

Written By debianlinux, north carolina on Monday, September 30, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These speakers sound great and really shine when amped with about 80W RMS per speaker. I installed these in a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid and the factory speakers were proven to be garbage. Unfortunately, the hard plastic/rubber ring that sits on top of the surround presents an installation issue as the factory grilles are designed to press onto the mounting plate thus the factory grille will not attach to the rear deck without modification. It appears that all 6X9 speakers on Crutchfield's site have this type of ring. This is no ding on the speakers themselves, just a warning to anyone wanting to put these or any other speakers into their Honda Accord. Also, I was only able to attach 2 of the 4 screws. The mounting plate has additional screw holes that would allow a 4 point attachment but that blasted ring covers those up. I ended up cutting some shelf liner to fit around the speakers to prevent them from vibrating on the rear deck since they will not sit perfectly flush without the other 2 screws.
Pros:
Superb sound. Excellent construction. Nice sized magnets.
Cons:
Definitely not a drop-in replacement for Honda Accords. But then again, I am not sure that anything out there is.

I purchased these Kicker 6x9s as a replacement for a pair of MB Quart speakers. These Kicker pieces definately provide a much deeper base. My goal was to reach a into the lower frequencies with this speaker and these Kickers delivered. The mid and high levels also come through much more crisp and clearer. These speakers are a great buy in this price range.
Pros:
Great sounding speaker in this price range. Nice tight base and can handle the power.
Cons:
No too impressed with the grill covers. I prefer the classic mesh type grill covers.

BASS BASS BASS!!!

Written By David D, New York, NY on Tuesday, September 03, 2013

Coming from a guy who loves bass; when I first swapped them out from my 98' Malibu there was a big difference. I still have factory speakers in the front but these kickers makes my system as a whole sound great especially while driving at highway speeds with the windows down. the bass is much louder than normal as well as the mids and highs from the built in tweeters. I will be purchasing from kicker again for the front door and my subs, i smile every time i start my car and play my hip hop music :)
Pros:
Bass, Installation is a breeze, good mids, crisp highs, head turner, feels like your sitting in a sound room with hard hitting chest pumping bass

Replaced factory junk with these; quite happy. Treble and mids perform as expected; quite well balanced. The bass is surprisingly strong! Installation was a nightmare! 2004 Buick Century. Had to remove the both rear seat bottom and back cushions just to access the rear deck. GM idiots! Per usual, the staff at Crutchfield was informed, professional and polite. Very Happy

Written By Rammand, Georgia on Sunday, June 16, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I am very happy with these speakers. This was an upgrade from fractory speakers in my 2011 ram 1500. I put kicker 6x9 in rear doors and kicker 6 1/2 in front doors. Running off a kenwood kdc-x997 head unit. The speakers sound really good , however I do plan to install an mtx 75x4 amp to door speakers. I will also be adding a pair of 10 inch Memphis subs driven by 500 watt class d memphis amp. But for now i am very pleased with the improved sound. I installed everything myself with the great free kits and harnesses provided by Crutchfield. The pac adapter was very easy to connect and install. It took me about 20 minutes to connect the radio wire harness to the pac unit and about 10-20 to install in my dash.

Thanks to the great customer service and tech support from Crutchfield, my istall went great. It looks like every thing was installed by professionals.
Pros:
Very clean sound. I never new just how much of the music i was missing until after installing these speakers. I hear so much more detailed sound now.
Cons:
I wish i had purchased these speakers sooner.

To remove the back seat bottom push in and then pull the levers, as the driver side got stuck until I pushed in on the seat and then pulled the lever.

I am afraid I can't give much as a plus or a minus. The original speakers had a dual input, the new ones only had a single hookup. Honestly I was very impressed with the capability of these speakers. I was planning on getting a kicker system with a JL Audio subwoofer after making a few more $. However, the low frequencies on these speakers are way impressive, making the purchase of a sub possibly unnecessary if using an amplifier for the speakers.

Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab

Written By Ram Fan, New England on Thursday, May 23, 2013
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I read a lot of reviews from Ram owners, and Kicker seemed to be the speaker of choice for the 3rd gen quad cab. I can see why. When I installed these speakers (along with a pair of Kicker KS60's), I discovered that a previous owner had already replaced the factory speakers with a set of infiniti's, so I didn't expect much improvement. But the Kickers have a cleaner, richer sound with a lot more bottom end. They're a great upgrade, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell another Ram owner to step up to these speakers.
Pros:
sound quality, cost
Cons:
none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Bought these for my sons buick regal to start rebuilding he sound system. Slipped right in the factory rear deck with no problems. After hooking up the deck, door speakers, amps and subs he is well on his way. Tuning the system was obnoxious. These 6X9 are absolutely stunning. He thought they were his subs!!! The clarity is amazing and we couldn't be more pleased. From the planning to the finished install Crutchfield was there to help. Thanks a million
Pros:
Ease of install Clarity Bass Wiring adapters fix to perfection
Cons:
Deeper than the factory, if you want to call that a con

Kicker SIX BY NINES

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This speakers are great! Using a kicker 200.4 amp to drive them. and pioneer 250x1 for a kenwood 10 in sub enclosure. They actually have enough base by themselves that you dont need a sub. I allready had the other equipment and just wanted the extra thump for some songs. Great speakers at a Fair price. They seem to handle alot of power without distortion!
Pros:
Nice base and highs very clear without distortion at higher levels
Cons:
none

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I ordered and got the speakers in less than 2 days! Mounting hardware was included along with some additional wiring (not needed). These were used in a 2002 New Beetle and the sound (especially the bass) is incredible! Cannot recommend them high enough!

In a '06 Ram 1500 w/factory radio how much would an amp (recommend one) improve the bass of these speakers on a scale of 1 to 10. Get an amp ? Yes or no ?. [ willard  Jan 25, 2014 ]

  • Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your system I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences and help you make the best choice for your system and your budget. [ Krissy Staff  Jan 26, 2014 ]
why it doesn't fit 1999 civic hatchback since it is 6x9 ? [ johhny  Dec 16, 2013 ]

  • The issue appears to be the height of the speakers. I'd recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone or online chat to discuss further if there are modifications you can perform to make these work. If not, then they can also help you pick out speakers that will fit. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 16, 2013 ]
What else will I need to hook these speakers up? [ Michael  Dec 04, 2013 ]

  • This will depend on your vehicle. Please reach out to an Advisor by phone or chat to discuss how these would mount into your vehicle, and any additional accessories you may need. [ Jeff Staff  Dec 04, 2013 ]
Does it have a powerful bass? [ Wesley  Dec 04, 2013 ]

  • I wasn't happy with the bass. As a matter of fact, I really don't think these are good rear speakers (which is what they were advertised as). I'm thinking of replacing them with better ones. [ KIMBERLY   Dec 28, 2013 ]
  • It surprisingly has a nice bass! I think it's quite powerful. At times, I often mistaken it for my subwoofer's bass. Hope this helps [ ASHLEIGH E   Dec 05, 2013 ]
  • It has impressive bass for a 6x9 speaker, but if you want real powerful bass, you need a powered subwoofer. For 6x9, these have good bass, though. [ JESSE   Dec 05, 2013 ]
  • It puts out a good amount of bass. [ JEROME   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • It is not a powered speaker, and my point of comparison is the original, factory speakers, which were 20 years old, but they have a nice, rounded sound with the Kicker front speakers & they had the best overall specs of the speakers available from Crutchfield at the time (full 20 - 20 kHz range, RMS & peak power-handling). I Ann using the Kickers with a JVC stereo & no additional amplifier at the moment. Also, I installed a powered Infinity subwoofer in the trunk not long afterward, which obviously provides much more punch than a set of passive speakers could. Overall, I'm very happy with these speakers - the only reason I went with the Infinity (10") sub over a Kicker (8") sub is the Infinity had much better specs & Crutchfield was offering $$$ off at the time, which put them in the same price point. [ JIM   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • I would say it has a very solid bass response. My son has played some music with heavy bass and they definitely kick. No subwoofer thump, but they can rattle my rear view mirror enough that I see it move.Still loving the speakers! [ DANIEL J   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • I am not an expert on audio by any means, but I believe that for the price, the bass response and power is very good. [ LISA J   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • There full range with solid bass... [ BERTRAM   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • Yes. I am extremely pleased with the way these speakers sound. The bass is not overwhelming, and does not drown out the music. 6?9 is a massive speaker to begin with, so you better believe you get some nice sound. I got them on sale, but would buy them again at full price if they went out for any reason. Just make sure you have an amp that can supply enough power or else you'll be missing out on the full capability of these babies. [ Derek   Dec 04, 2013 ]
  • Yes, deep and powerful, I have them on my rear deck and even when I have my sub off it still feels like it is on just a few notches down [ ROBERT   Dec 04, 2013 ]
