It's time for an upgrade

Upgrading the old factory speakers in your car will give you a huge bump in sound quality, and Kicker designed CS Series speakers to get your sound system rockin' without breaking the bank. You'll enjoy your music even more when you hear all the details that your muddy-sounding factory speakers couldn't begin to reproduce.

Bring on the treble and the bass

Kicker's 40CSS654 component speaker set provides low end from a tough 6-1/2" polypropylene woofer, with a polyester foam surround that will stay strong for years to come. The separate 3/4" titanium dome tweeter takes care of the vocal and instrumental details that'll really bring your music to life. The outboard crossover network allows you to pick from three different tweeter level settings so you'll get balanced sound wherever you're sitting. Grilles are included.

Installation note: You'll need a pair of our universal backstraps to install the tweeters in the factory locations.

Features

Polypropylene Woofer Cones: The Kicker CS-series speakers feature durable polypropylene woofer cones, resistant to the moisture and temperature extremes found in automotive applications.

Ribbed Polyester Foam Surrounds: The ribbed polyester foam surrounds allow extended cone excursion for additional bass output and higher SPL.

Tweeter Mounting Options: The tweeters come with brackets to allow multiple mounting configurations: flush-mounted, angled flush-mounted (approximately 10°), and angled surface-mounted (approximately 15°).

Tweeter Dimensions:

Flush Mount Angled Flush Mount Angled Surface Mount
Mounting Height 0.238" 0.563" 1.272"
Depth 0.532" 0.612" 0.554" (screw depth)
Frame Diameter 1.976" 1.976" N/A
Cutout Diameter 1.57" 1.587" N/A
Frame Width N/A N/A 1.688"
Frame Length N/A N/A 1.897"

Crossovers: The component system includes passive 2-way crossover networks for a seamless transition between the woofers and tweeters. The slope is 12dB per octave (both high pass and low pass) and the crossover point is 4000 Hz. A switch on each crossover allows you to set the tweeter output; 0 dB, +3 dB, or +6 dB. The crossovers' input and output wires are attached; the woofer output has quick slide terminals that connect directly to the woofer and the tweeter output has bullet terminals that mate to the terminals on the tweeter wires. The crossovers' dimensions are:

  • Length: 4.595"
  • Width: 2.463"
  • Height: 1.004"

Woofer Mounting: In addition to fitting standard 6-1/2 and 4-hole 6-1/2 applications, the woofer also has a standard 6-3/4 bolt pattern. However, if mounted in a 6-3/4 location the holes for the smaller pattern create an air leak, which should be sealed using a speaker baffle, or something similar.

Q
Can the tweeter be taken out of it's housing or is it solid construction? I'm wondering because my door panel have factory tweeters which are tightly recessed.
drbagabundo  Aug 06, 2015

A
Yes, the tweeters come out and can be mounted separate. This is what I did in my car. I have the tweeters mounted in the dash. The only downside is the wiring gets more complicated as you have to run the tweeter wires to the same box the speaker wires come from.
walter  Aug 11, 2015

I didn't look at them close enough to be able to say for sure (and it's been a year and a half since I installed them). But I don't think they can feasibly be taken apart.
james  Aug 08, 2015
A
Yes the tweeter is a separate component that slips into the housing
jeff  Aug 07, 2015
A
Yes, you can remove the housings. I have a 1999 Honda Civic with Factory Tweeters. They are built into the door panels but I was able to pull them out from the rear of the panel and install the new ones in their place. The Kicker tweeters fit perfectly with no issues. Be careful with the tweeter levels, I had to make sure they were turned all the way down because at head level they highs were a little too much. Great speakers though, have had great success with them.
christopher  Aug 06, 2015
A
Yes the tweeters are separate.

Q
Is the rms rating for a pair or for each set? Example. one set is for one door another set is for the second door.

RMS is usually per speaker. I wouldn't use an amp and push to max though. Usually half RMS coming from amp to speaker is plenty of juice and you won't fry anything
jim  Apr 03, 2015
A
RMS rating should be per speaker. I would not reccomend pushing the max rms rating though. Usually an amp pushing half the RMS is plenty
jim  Apr 03, 2015
A
For each set. Each door has their own rms. hope that helps
aaron  Apr 03, 2015
A
RMS is for each channel.
joseph  Apr 03, 2015
A
They are 100 watts each RMS for a total of 200 watts. Very quality speakers but I wouldn't go higher than 90 watts each when powering them, or at least subtract gain. You will be very happy with them. Install baffle behind them for added midbass.

I have a 2011 Jeep Wrangler without the infinity system. I was wondering of these kicker tweeters will fit in my factory tweeter housing on the dash? Thanks

You will want to contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat to discuss compatibility with your factory system. They will be able to pull up your vehicle and see if this will integrate. If it does not, then they will also be able to discuss other options with you.

Q
Looking at buying two pair of these for my 2012 Jeep. Saw a reviewer say he needed a line output converter or an aftermarket HU. What would be a good converter, as I would like to keep the factory steering controls and HU?

I installed it on a 2007 subaru impreza. I didn't need any sort of converter. Utilize Crutchfields will it fit my car tool. They usually give you everything you need for the install of your specific vehicle

If I were to buy this, does Crutchfield sell tweeter housings that I can use or what?

Here's how I used factory mounts in 2000 Suburban with a less-than-5-minute modification: Remove door panel. Remove factory speaker grill. Unscrew retaining nuts from factory tweeter mount screws. Screws are plastic so don't torque on them - ask me how I know! Remove tweeter mount from door panel. So can later use factory wire connectors to connect Kicker crossover to factory wire connector at woofer location in the door, unscrew wire retainer on factory tweeter, and snip wires close to tweeter. Factory tweeter is slid down onto retaining pins and epoxied to mount. Pop tweeter off mount by prying up With small screwdriver at tweeter base where it meets mount. Use a 1 - 3/4" hole saw to cut a hole for Kicker tweeter. Factory mount has a "crosshair" type tweeter "grill", and on back side of mount, crosshair is indented, which the hole saw drill bit fits perfectly into, so use that as a guide for your hole saw. This will cut a hole, and get rid of everything else you don't need on mount in one-fell-swoop! Unscrew retaining collar on Kicker tweeter and slide tweeter into mount from front. Since factory mount is thin, flip tweeter collar over and reinstall it on tweeter from back side of mount to secure tweeter to mount. Re-attach tweeter mount to door panel. Note that mount fits onto door panel only one way. Remember, screws are plastic. Voila, new tweeter in factory location!
