If you're looking to add some boom to your car's sound system, Kicker's CompD line will get your car shaking without draining your wallet. These subs are the latest in the legendary Kicker Comp line that started in 1986, with a proven pedigree when it comes to delivering powerful bass.
The heavy steel basket cuts down on unwanted vibrations.
Kicker's 40CWD84 8" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.
This sub handles up to 200 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, and its dual 4-ohm voice coils make it easy to connect to a mono amplifier. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures, and it's even suitable for free-air applications.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.
A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.
I got a great sound improvement by squeezing this 8" sub where the factory 6.5" sub used to be. Really matches up nicely with the Kicker amp that the Crutchfield adviser recommended.
Pros: Good product. Great support. The technical help was ready on moments notice to help with wiring questions.
This has been the first time i have ever installed an aftermarket subwoofer into any of my cars and i hate the fact that i did not do this sooner. I love the way it makes the music come to live and it makes music more enjoyable. I paired this subwoofer with a Sound Ordnance M1350 350W Amp and i can say i truly love it. I its not too crazy for my liking, as i am not into those systems that make your whole car rattle. I gave this a good rating because it worked like a charm while it lasted. Two weeks into having my system installed something happened (I am not a sound system expert) and it stoped working. I have not been to the audio shop to figure out what went wrong, but as of now i will assume that the subwoofer just stoped working (who knows maybe something went wrong during the installation, or maybe it was the amp that came with any issues).
Pros: Great bass while it worked. If you are not looking into anything crazy, i would definitely recommend this subwoofer.
Cons: My subwoofer only lasted for two weeks, but i have not taken it back to the audio shop. I do not want to assume that it was the subwoofer that gave out, as it could have been an installation error, or even the amp it self that is bad and not powering the subwoofer correctly, but i will find out soon enough and update this review. If my subwoofer was still working i would have to say that there were no Cons.
It's all I the enclosure fellas I did this a few years back with their top 8s Get the dimensions for fosgates box that rocks buy MDF only build to spec except use only 1 4" Port dead center if tone not deep enough enlarge port a little at a time you'll be stoked!!!
Pros: Installed in proper enclosure these are perfect loud deep clean subs. BTW you'll save a ton of space
custom installation BMW 2000 Mroadster sounds great with stock harmon-kardon amp
Fits in stock subwoofer location with minor work on 2001 Chevy Suburban. Will be same replacement except for 03 and up where they moved the subwoofer under the center console.
Had to mount 3/4 inch piece of plywood over the stock sub box to be able to fit. Can't tell it is there when trim is replaced. It works on the stock amplifier if you wire it in parallel so the amp sees 2ohms.
Pros: Direct replacement besides plywood mounting
Cons: None so far
Speaker seems to be an excellent subwoofer with very good build. I used it to replace a blown rear deck subwoofer in an Lexus LS430. It wasn't an exact match but I was able to make it work. It sounds very good. I'm hearing bass that was never present in my factory speaker. Crutchfield pros made this an easy transaction and provided a good value.
Pros: Great bass and excellent construction.
Cons: Not an exact fit for LS 430 subwoofer.
My factory radio bit the dust in my 07 ram quad cab, so I bought a Kenwood kdc-bt56u to replace it. After thinking about it, I decided that now would be a good time to add a little more muscle to the system. So,I added a Kicker DXA250.1 amp and a Kicker 8" CompD Subwoofer. And let me tell you, MUSCLE IS EXACTLY WHAT I GOT! The truck already had a seven speaker Infinity amplified system that already sounded pretty good, but what a great addition this was. Because of the limited space in the truck to HIDE a sub, I chose the 8". I was able to easily install it under the backseat where a storage compartment was. Removed the cover and then made a plaster mold of the space I had. Then I fabricated a fiberglass enclosure with a MDF lid. The 8" sub drops right in. Rear of that is the amp. Pretty cool set-up! I've got me SERIOUS BUMP in my Ram now! Kind of amazing that a man over 50 would power-up his ride in such a way, but I'm glad I did. The rugged build of the sub impressed me when I took it out of the box. Heavy frame, superior coating on the metal parts and rigid terminals. I read many reviews before I made my purchase, and I have to agree with everybody that this is an awesome sub. This is also my first experience dealing with Crutchfield and I have to say they are top notch in all ways! Customer service, knowledge of products and patience with a newby in aftermarket audio. I'll definitely be a return customer! Do I recommend this product? OH YEAH !!! VERY COOL!!!
Pros: Great quality and price. Big sound from a not so big sub.
Sure there are subs, and then there are subs to use in certain conditions. In my case I needed an infinite baffle type sub to mount on my rear deck. No, not all subs are designed the same as I found out...the hard way. I original bought a JL Audio 8" sub to fill the void, but instantly found out that is was not designed at all for my needs. So with reluctancy I bought the Kicker sub based on the fact it was crossed designed for both enclosed and free air type installs. Installed as expected without any complicated hole pattern problems. The dual voice coil was a nice feature, so I went ahead and wired it up for 2ohm application, paired it with my JL Audio 500 watt Mono amp and was impressed by the sound. Granted, it's not going to shake any rear view mirrors they way 2 15" would, but it does fill the car with the lows I was missing in my music. Keep in mind, it's an 8 inch sub so don't expect the thump your going to get from a 10", 12" or 15" sub. It's just not going to happen no matter how you install it.
Pros: Good for free air type installs.
Just what I was looking for! Will definitely buy from you guys when I install my home theatre! Thanks??
Pros: Great quality Sound product
Cons: I didn't start shopping here sooner!!
Solid bass 100% feedback
Pros: Eazy to install
Very good quality, fair price, easy installation
Pros: Good bass, not boomy
Cons: None so far
I have this sub in a chevy colorado it's plenty for this truck
Pros: Great sub all around
Solidly built, good sound, fair price
Very good replacement for the 04 Lexus 430 Mark Levinson rear deck free air subwoofer. Simply wire the dual voice coil in series to get a closer impedance match. Not quite as loud as Levinson subwoofer, but can't beat the value. Lexus wants some $400+ for the stock replacement which is crazy when you can install this product for less than 1/4 the cost. It's a no brainer.
Pros: Great value, great sound.
Cons: Have to modify slightly to get it to fit the existing Lexus installation bracket. Not too difficult, just takes a little planning.
It was easy to install and came with all the right parts. Thinking about buying a few more iv liked it so much.
Pros: Great sound great bass.
Cons: It's only and 8".
I bought a 8"kicker 40cwd84 wired into a 8ohm load put into my lexus to replace the old woofer that ran on 16ohms the kicker works great in my ls430 great sub thankyou crutchfield
Pros: fit with ease,great design
Cons: only thing that was a pain was getting to the old sub to replace it I have a ls430 lexus with the power massage rear seats
These are nice subs if you want some bass without taking up a lot of space. I custome fit these subs in the rear deck of my Volvo S60T. They are hooked up to a 2 channel Boston Acustics amp (80 watts per channel / low pass filter). These subs rock. Suprising bass for small subs. No box either. Just a pair of oversized baffels to help with rattle since I had to cut the opening to make it wide enough to fit the 8's. Very nice. I'm now a fan of Kicker and will outfit the rest of my car with their gear.
Pros: Nice bass for the size. Came with install gear
Cons: None that I've noticed.

Dual Voice Coils: For increased system flexibility, the woofer has two 4Ω voice coils. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2Ω load. When wired in series, the woofer presents an 8Ω load.
Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.
Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.
Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.
Speaker Terminals: Each speaker terminal has two 0.25" push-on terminals (crimp-on quick slides included).
Enclosure Versatility: The Kicker Comp subwoofer is versatile, performing well in vented or sealed enclosures, and in free-air applications.
Sealed Enclosures: A sealed enclosure design offers the smoothest response, with increased energy at the lowest frequencies (between 20 to 30 Hz).
Ported Enclosures: A ported (vented) enclosure design is typically more efficient than a sealed enclosure.
Infinite Baffle Mounting: The Kicker Comp subwoofers are also designed to be used as free-air drivers. The infinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes the trunk of a sedan as the enclosure.
Kicker's Yellow Series of amps, speakers and subs gives you the performance you expect from Kicker at a more affordable price. And this year's models are better than ever.
