Brace yourself

Kicker designed their CompR line of subs for people who love to hear strong bass when their music's playing. Built from the ground up with performance in mind, these subs handle plenty of power to give you the baddest bass available from the legendary Comp line.

Kicker 40CWR104

Change this subwoofer's impedance with a flick of the built-in switch.

Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker's 40CWR104 10” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Say hello to system flexibility

This Kicker CompR will handle up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you have an amplifier that'll do it justice. Its dual 4-ohm voice coils make it easy to connect to a mono amplifier, and this versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 225 and 600 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Product Highlights:

What's a component sub and why would I want one?

A component sub is simply a speaker that's designed to reproduce bass once it's installed in a compatible enclosure. Think about the impact of a movie soundtrack in a big theater or even in your own home HDTV setup. A component sub can add the same kind of power to the music in your car. And a car sub is not all about the boom that you hear on a street corner (although that's cool too) - you can pair a component sub with your choice of enclosure to get bass just the way you like it, from tight and punchy to fat and loose. And once you experience music in your car with a well-tuned subwoofer, you'll never go back.

Kicker Quality backed by Crutchfield prices and support - a winning combination any way you look at it. The CompR looks as cool as it sounds. Installed two of these in my son's Jeep in sealed boxes right behind the front seats. They are complemented by a set of component speakers in an overhead sound bar attached to the roll cage, so all sound is emanating from the same plane, near the driver and passenger (very important in an open top Jeep). The subs have the oomph to deliver the bass over whatever road noise may occur (and with 37 inch mud tires, you get a lot). Powered by Rockford Fosgate 500W Mono amps (one per sub), they get all the juice they need to rock him down the road. These subs are DVC with switches to change impedance. This makes wiring easier, but understand how you want to wire them before ordering so you get the right ones. Read the Tech Advice on the site and other reviews to make sure.

Pros: Well reputed Kicker quality. Poly cones to resist the elements one may encounter in an open top vehicle. Great sound from hard hits to low rumbles.

Cons: None

This is a great product for the amount of money you spend on it. I have three kids this was in addition to the factory system that doesn't blow the doors off. It sounds great I would buy it again and again and recommend it to anyone else, highly. The only thing is is the switc this was in addition to the factory system that doesn't blow the doors off. It sounds great I would buy it again and again and recommend it to anyone else, highly. The only downfall is depending on the model you buy you only have two options for impedance. This one is sold as a 4 ohm speaker but you really only have the option between 2 ohm or 8 ohm

Pros: Great sounding Durable Worth every penny

Cons: The impedance switch which doesn't allow for creative wiring

I bought one of these for my 2013 Ram system build. It's running in a ported box (1.0 cubic foot of airspace), with a Kenwood XR-900-5 amp pushing it and it sounds incredible. It's gets loud, hits low, and keeps it's composer. Would recommend to anyone looking for a compact package with some umph behing it!

Pros: Small, loud, gets low, and decently priced.

Cons: None yet

good sound at a good price.

Good sound considering I have to run the smallest box possible as it is in a convertible. The switch is a convenient feature but not needed. I have not had these long so I can not comment on the durability and I think they were rather generous with the power rating. Putting 600w into 2 @ 8ohm so a 4 ohm load. Gain is almost all the way down and I can still overpower them. I will come back to review later for durability.

Pros: Good sound and a good price. Fits into the smallest of boxes w o being a shallow mount.

Cons: Prob over rated power. Stay around 200-250 and they should last forever.

After lots of video watching on You Tube and Tips and Explanations on the Crutchfield website I was really concerned with Parallel vs. In Series wiring to get proper wattage for Amp/Subwoofer. Kicker solved all those worries with an easy 2ohm/8ohm switch. Wow! Excellent innovation. The sub is installed in a sealed OBCON box (21"X9"X15") and sounds incredible with the Kicker 500w Mono Amp. Nice, Clear and lots of Oooomph! THANKS KICKER!

Pros: WELL BUILT. EASY! INSTALL. LOOKS AND SOUNDS INCREDIBLE.

Cons: NONE

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 4-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. A switch on the speaker terminal allows you to easily change from parallel (the woofer presents a 2-ohm load) to series (the woofer presents an 8-ohm load) wiring for the voice coils.

UniPlate Construction: The woofer features a one-piece UniPlate construction with a vented, extended pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux in the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out, and the resulting damage

Tinsel Leads: CompR subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 3.0 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.25 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 10.5" x 2.5" x 20" slot port
