About the Kicker 40CWRT82

John Pollard

A thin sub with big sub bass

If you're looking for bass for a tight space, Kicker designed their CompRT subs with compact cars, pickup trucks, and even motorcycles in mind. The low-profile 40CWRT82 8” subwoofer performs just like a full-size sub, but without killing all your cargo space. This high-performance CompRT sub stands less than 3" tall, so your installation options are wide open.

Kicker 40CWRT82

This sub clocks in at less than 3" deep.

Built with boom in mind

The 40CWRT82 comes equipped with a rigid injection-molded polypropylene cone that won't flex and cause distortion while you're cranking the bass. Its rubber surround will last through years of heavy use, combining with a special-design back and top plate to give you more excursion (which equals more bass) than other skinny subs.

Made to work with many systems

This sub handles up to 300 watts RMS so make sure you've got a solid amp to power it. You can wire the dual voice coils for either 4- or 1-ohm total impedance, giving you more wiring options when setting up your system. This versatile sub sounds great in sealed or ported enclosures.

Important Note: If you are wiring this DVC sub for low impedance, make sure that your amp is compatible. You can damage or destroy your amp by exceeding recommended minimum impedance.

Product Research

Features

Dual 2-ohm Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2-ohm voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel the woofer presents a 1-ohm load. When the voice coils are wired in series the woofer presents a 4-ohm load.

Tinsel Leads: CompRT subwoofers use Spiralead tinsel-lead technology; the tinsel lead wires are woven into the spider to relieve mechanical stress.

Enclosure Compatibility

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's CompRT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The vent-less, solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed enclosure.

Sealed Enclosure Applications: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.2 ft³
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.25 ft³

Vented Box: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with a 8" x 1.5" x 20.75" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.20 ft³ with a 8" x 2" x 19.125" slot port

Note: Although smaller than optimal, the prefabricated ported enclosures we list on the accessory page produce very good results.

Will this fit my 2007 Honda Civic si? With no modifications. Trying to replace the factory sub

We do not show this as a good fit. However, there is a subwoofer from Pioneer that would fit: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130TSS2002/Pioneer-TS-SW2002D2.html We do show that you will need to reuse the factory bracket and grille, but you will need to redrill mounting screw holes.

Q
I'm looking for a sub that will fit in a .1 cubic foot box for my Fiero, will this work?
nathan  Apr 21, 2014

A
The spec for this sub is a minimum of 0.2 cubic feet sealed. I looked everywhere for about 2 weeks and this sub was the ONLY one that I could find that would meet my requirements. I just purchased one for my Honda Ridgeline and had to make a custom box out of MDF. I came in around 0.22 cubic feet after displacement and it sounds great. I made a trapezoidal box that measured 2-1/4" at the top and 4-1/4" at the bottom. Width was 19" and the height was 11-1/2". I used 1/2" MDF which Kicker says is allowable for 8" and smaller subs.

I don't believe so. The specs say .20 is the smallest and I used .6 so no way of telling. I don't think that would be enough air
phillip  Apr 22, 2014

I read that the minimum volume for this sub is .2 cubic feet, but I was wondering what the consequences of installing it in a smaller box would be and if it would be worth buying one
