If you're looking to add some boom to your car's sound system, Kicker's CompS line will get your car shaking without draining your wallet. These subs are the latest in the legendary Kicker Comp line that started in 1986, with a proven pedigree when it comes to delivering powerful bass.
The heavy steel basket cuts down on unwanted vibrations.
Kicker's 40CWS82 8" subwoofer features a flex-resistant polypropylene cone for hard-hitting lows without distortion, while the ribbed foam surround promotes long excursion and helps to keep the cone on target. The sub's steel basket provides a reliable foundation for big bass, and its extensive venting ensures long-lasting performance that won't break down when the bass gets heavy.
This sub handles 200 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, and its 2-ohm impedance brings out max power from your mono amp. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures, and it's even suitable for free-air applications.
To drive this single subwoofer, we recommend a mono amplifier rated between 150 and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. For more information, please refer to our article on How to Match Subwoofers and Amplifiers.

Replacement for my sub in my 2002 Suburban. Works as expected.
Cons: Needed to build an adapter ring.
Simple to connect and install. No problems, love the setup and sound.
Pros: Simple to install.
Cons: No cover for it.
After reading reviews for people putting this sub directly in their Tahoes and Yukons, I purchased this for my 2001 Chevy Suburban Z71 with onstar and w/out bose. When I got the left rear panel off and the factory sub out, I was disappointed to find out this sub was too deep for the box. It appears the overall air space of the suburban/Yukon XL boxes is a little more than the Tahoe/Yukon counterparts, however it is shallower where the sub mounts (the magnet will hit the box). I went on eBay and was able to have a maker build me a spacer ring that was a tick over 3/4 thick and that was the perfect item I needed to complete this install (it was $15 shipped for the ring). This little sub packs a punch and I am extremely pleased with how it sounds in the factory box with the factory amp. In the wiring harness area, you will also need to tap into one wire and splice it into the remote wire on the head unit so it knows to turn the factory amp on. The wire you tap into is in the onstar harness that you will no longer use. (go to youtube and search for factory sub replacement in tahoe/suburban and a video will show you which wire to tap into). Overall, easy little project that brought life back to 2001 Chevy Suburban with 296k miles on it. Every single door speaker, including the sub was blown when I decided to upgrade the audio. Glad I did.
Pros: Good price Sounds great A lot louder than factory sub
Cons: I had to use a spacer ring for my install (but that is no fault of kicker or crutchfield). Hopefully others will read my review and figure it out!
This sub-woofer was a great match for my 2002 Tahoe. Great mid range price sub-woofer.
Pros: - Sounds Great. - Perfect fit for my 2002 Tahoe. Fit into the sub-woofer box with no modifications needed. - I was able to use the same holes in the box. I just used finder washers and rubber washers to hold it in the box. - The Master Sheet was a lot of help.
Cons: - None after two weeks of use.
I read a dozen articles trying to find out which sub I needed to replace the factory sub. Guy at Xtreme Sounds said I needed a "shallow 8". Figured I would have to modify the box, but to my surprise, it was plug and play. Sub fit PERFECTLY! Had to change the oem negative spade terminal to one that came with the speaker. Sounds amazing with the factory amp because, just like the factory sub, this is a single 2 ohm voice coil.
Pros: Exact fit. No mods necessary.
I chose this Sub because it was rated for Free Air and I was installing in a custom location in the back of My Vette. It works great and added the bass my system needed without having to go the $600 route.
Pros: Great Low end sound
Cons: None for my application
Good sound for what I needed. Wanted the extra thump but no need for window shattering sound. Fits the bill and is capable of much more than I needed
Pros: Easy install, great sound
These sound so good. What an upgrade from the stock speakers still using the stock head unit.
Pros: everything I wanted
Perfect drop in replacement for the factory 2002 Tahoe sub (non-bose). No trimming or cutting at all. Just had to screw new screws into the factory box (can not reuse the old mounting holes) but didn't even need a drill. Great product sounds 10x better than the factory sub before it disintegrated.
Pros: Easy install. Perfect fit.
Cons: none yet.
This was a perfect replacement for the factory sub in my 2002 Tahoe (without Bose). I could not be happier with the sound quality and installation was a breeze.
Pros: Perfect fit, great sound, and a good price.
The factory Harman Kardon dual-coil sub in my '09 Legacy had never worked since I bought the car. My adviser recommended this sub based on the detailed specifications I gave him of the old HK unit. My factory HK amp has no problem pushing this guy w/ a 35W load. I used a sonic saw, some particle board and some fasteners from the hardware store to fasten it to the factory shelf in my backseat. It sounds great, and it's a third the cost of the factory unit from Subaru!
Pros: Great value
wow. this little sub sounds great being pushed by Kicker 12CX300.1! exceeded my expectations by a lot
Pros: sounds great, hits hard for a 8in
This was a perfect fit for our daughter's 02 GMC Yukon powered rear speaker/sub (GM part #15766432, discontinued). Bass/sound quality is excellent and she is happy as can be!
Another excellent product from kicker
Pros: Everything about it
Cons: None at all
Bought this sub to replace old factory sub in my 2002 Tahoe. Fit into the opening for the old sub perfectly. Decent sound at a good price.
Pros: Fit. Cost.
Cons: None yet, but I've only had it in for a few weeks.
The kicker speaker looks built tough and high quality. Feels very sturdy. It came with multiple Size connectors for the speaker wire which made installation a breeze. The sound quality is great as expected from Kicker subs.
Better than expected. Speaker was shipped as instructed and arrived when promised. Install was easy and the sound is better than expected from a 8" sub powered by the factory amp. I am happy with this purchase.
Wow.. The bass is just Awesome. I like this speaker. My sub was blown from my 05 Acura TL so I bought this KICKER. The best purchase I have made so far.. The sound is unbelievable.. Thanks..
This is a great little speaker. I needed something to fit the rear deck of my Dodge Charger. It does fit but you have to drill some holes in the metal. The sound is great! It really adds some nice lows to my music. All I need now is to add dynamate to the rear deck to cut out the vibration and it will be complete.
Pros: Great sound quality
Cons: No rubber surround
This is not a direct fit. I built a mounting ring out of 1" MDF to give the speaker the proper standoff, otherwise the magnet hits the plastic inside of the factory box. I was worried I would have to cut the protective screen off the front but the speaker fir magnificently. If you have a jigsaw, drill, pencil, and a 1'X1'X1" piece of MDF and 8 1.5" screws you will have it done in less than an hour. Much better sound than factory and meets the 2 ohm requirements.
Pros: Better sound, can read Kicker in bright yellow through the screen.
Cons: Not a direct fit.
Built a box to fit in console of 2002 Jeep Wrangler. Overall product is great for the application.
I have a 2002 tahoe ls with non Bose factory subwoofer. I already replaced the door speakers with kenwoods, so when the subwoofer went out I knew I had to get a good quality replacement to match up with the other speakers. I bought this kicker 40cws82 because its a well known brand and is 2 ohms and 8 inches, just like the factory subwoofer. Although I had to drill 8 new holes, it was an easy install and the improvement is remarkable. I'd definitely buy this subwoofer again. And no amplifier was needed.
Pros: Amazing sound quality. Perfect replacement for factory sub Great bass Speaker looks cool
Cons: Had to drill new mounting holes
I used this for a direct replacement for a 2001 Tahoe with Factory Sub/Non-Bose system. Although Crutchfield states that they don't have a direct replacement other than the self powered replacement housing for this vehicle, I followed the recommendations of a couple of forums and bought this sub. The only modification that was required to the factory housing was drilling 8 pilot holes for the mounting screws.
Pros: Great sound, direct fit with no real modifications to the factory housing.
Cons: None to date...
Part was a perfect replacement/upgrade for the factory sub in my 2003 Toyota 4runner.
Pros: Sound, construction, etc...
I have a 1998 Lexus LS400 that had a broken stock Pioneer sub in the rear seat shelf. I researched a lot of open air subs and I saw this one was supposed to fit the bill. There is some custom work that is required to get this sub to fix so get the dremel ready if you are looking to purchase this for your LS. First the stock sub you need to cut off the mounting ring. After that has been completed you can them epoxy and screw the mounting ring to the new Kicker sub. This will allow the sub to be a drop in replacement in the car. I'm not sure if this Kicker Sub is really a free air design. It doesn't seem to work at all ranges very well. Some songs the sub you can really tell is there, other songs it doesn't add much. I am using the stock amp which might be a cause of this as well. Overall a well constructed product, but if you are looking for an open air sub I recommend a different one.
Pros: Good build quality, 2 OHM SVC(hard to find).
Cons: Not really a great free air sub.
Installed it in a sound ordinance bass bunker.. It fit well, sounds good, and good price.
Pros: Sound quality and price..
Needed a replacement 8 inch 2 ohm sub for my 2001 tahoe. non bose with factory sub. I called Crutchfield and the advisor I talk to said they had no sub that woud fit and if it did that it would not work with my factory radio. told me to call the dealer for replacement . Dealer has no replacement now. Kept checking the reviews and found this sub. It fit right in the factory box and works great. The only problem was a lot ot rattling in the factory sealed box. I had to drill about 5 or 6 one inch holes to vent the enclouser to stop the rattling. Sounds pretty good now.
Pros: fit right in the factory enclouser. Sounds great for an 8 inch sub.
Cons: Very Dissappointed in the Crutchfield advisor program.
Bought this 8" Kicker Sub to replace the broke factory sub in my Tohoe and it sounds excellent as to be expected from Kicker!!!! Thanks for making the great products I've used for years. Looks cool in the subwoofer spot also!!!
Needed a stock replacement for the 8" 2-Ohm sub in my 2001 Tahoe. Dropped in to place just needing new screw holes. Works well with the stock player.
Pros: Drop in replacement and sounds really good.

Ribbed Surround: The optimized ribbed polyurethane helps eliminate flex and distortion.
Spiralead Tinsel Leads: The durable Spiralead tinsel leads are woven into the woofer's spider, for added strength and reliability.
Steel Basket with Vented Pole Piece: The steel basket's vented pole piece and Kicker's Quad Venting slots contribute to the woofers' efficient cooling and durability.
Speaker Terminals: Each speaker terminal has two 0.25" push-on terminals (crimp-on quick slides included).
Enclosure Versatility: The Kicker Comp subwoofer is versatile, performing well in vented or sealed enclosures, and in free-air applications.
Sealed Enclosures: A sealed enclosure design offers the smoothest response, with increased energy at the lowest frequencies (between 20 to 30 Hz).
Ported Enclosures: A ported (vented) enclosure design is typically more efficient than a sealed enclosure.
Infinite Baffle Mounting: The Kicker Comp subwoofers are also designed to be used as free-air drivers. The infinite baffle mounting method effectively utilizes the trunk of a sedan as the enclosure.

Yes they can....I installed a pair of them in a golf cart body with great results. Just use plenty of power. [ Legit Nov 10, 2014 ]
I've been in the car audio business for a long time and probably would not choose this driver. but a customer brought it to me with a rather inexpensive amplifier and I must say it was absolutely impressive! It took very little power and gave substantial bass output, even at 40HZ. It's a good inexpensive subwoofer. [ CARLFRED A Feb 03, 2014 ]
I replaced the factory sub with this one. Using the factory amp in my truck, so I don't have much of an opinion on amp selection. However, using just my stock system I have been thoroughly impressed by the speakers performance. [ CHRISTOPHER Feb 02, 2014 ]
