A match made in heaven...or Oklahoma

Kicker's 40VCWS122 loaded enclosure puts a thumping 12" CompR sub behind your music. The rugged ported box was designed specifically for the sub, so you can count on getting maximum performance, no matter what kind of tunes you enjoy.

The specially designed port gives you more bass without sounding sloppy.

Hard-hitting CompR sub

The 12” CompR subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Heavy-duty enclosure

Sturdy medium-density fiberboard ensures long-lasting performance from the enclosure, and the special-design side port delivers more bass without getting sloppy. The enclosure's 2-ohm impedance draws maximum power from your mono amplifier. This Kicker will handle up to 500 watts RMS, so make sure you pick an amp that'll make that CompR sub happy.

Enclosed Subwoofers 101

An enclosed subwoofer is a box with a subwoofer already installed. The advantage to buying an enclosed sub is that the manufacturer made the sub, then designed and built the box as a perfect match, so you'll get the best possible performance. Every enclosed sub has a maximum RMS power handling rating, so pair it with an amp with a similar RMS power rating to get the best performance.

So I was at a local big box store and saw this sub mis-marked for the price of the sub that's not in the enclosure. That was the only reason I purchased it. I've heard these subs referred to as "glorified discount retail subs" but I disagree. It bumps hard and everyone in the car knows it. I can feel it in my chest while driving. The only problem I've been having is that on some songs, there's almost a clipping noise. I listen to high quality music, so it's not that. I brought it to a local car audio professional and that's where I heard the "glorified discount retail sub" phrase. According to him, these subs are very sensitive to music quality. Heavy metal, classic rock, etc. sounds really good. Some rap and EDM is where I hear the clipping noise, then again some rap and EDM sound good too. Still, I would recommend this sub.

Pros: Loud Good bass

Cons: Sometimes there's a "clipping" sound from the sub on specific songs

I actually ran across this set up at a pawn shop. I looked up the specs on it and thought it should really pound. I bought it at more than a 100 less than you can buy on the internet. I took the sub out of the box and saw that it was set for 8 ohms. Moved it to 2 ohms and boy was I blown away by the bass this puppy puts out! I've got it being pushed by a Alpine MRP-M500 and it just pounds this sub. I'm very impressed! It really shakes all the mirrors and moves my wifes hair while listening to loud bass songs. This is in a Dodge Dakota quad cab with the small seat removed. If you pair this up with at least a 500W amp you won't be dissapointed.

Pros: Lots of power. Small form factor

Cons: None that I can tell
