Features
Dual Voice Coils: For increased
system flexibility, the woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. When the voice coils
are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 2 ohm load. When the voice coils
are wired in series, the woofer presents an 8 ohm load. In addition, each coil
may be connected to a different amplifier channel and each channel will see a 4
ohm load.
Square Design: By making the
Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (Sd) for
a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional round subwoofer. More
cone area means the Solo-Baric L7 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper
bass.
Cone Materials: An injection
molded and reinforced, one-piece SoloKon cone is used resulting in greater rigidity for less cone
flex and less distortion. In addition, the cone is very resistant to
environmental extremes. A rear cone brace provides added strength and reduces
cone flex under stress.
Surround: The tough, flexible
Santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which
controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the
surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to
the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible.
Inverted Structural Dome: The
Inverted Structural Dome replaces a conventional dust cap and locks into the cone
for unmatched structural integrity and greatly reduced cone flexing/resonance.
Patented Enhanced BAM (Basket And
Motor) Assembly: The cast aluminum basket features a low profile, open
design to provide a solid anti-resonant foundation for the motor assembly.
Spider: The durable
poly-cotton semi-progressive spider provides precise coil alignment and
critical cone motion control.
Voice Coil:
The
voice coil is wound around an aluminum former with a flared bottom to effectively
dissipate heat. The result is a 220°
Celsius (428° Fahrenheit) rating to increase durability.
Chromed UniPlate Construction:
The UniPlate construction combines the backplate and extended pole piece into a
single unit to maximize magnetic efficiency and minimize alignment problems
often caused by two-piece construction. The bottom of the UniPlate is chromed to
provide enhanced heat transfer for cool operation and maximum power handling.
Bumped Back Plate: The deep
bumped back plate lets the voice coil reach maximum excursion without
bottoming-out.
Perimeter Venting: The
perimeter venting cooling system continuously pumps hot air away from the voice
coil, replacing it with cool outside air.
Gaskets: The one-piece rear gasket insures an airtight seal.
The shielding front gasket enhances the cosmetics and helps protect the wide
surround.
Rubber Magnet Boot: A black
rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the
cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet from chipping or breaking during
installation.
Tinsel Leads: The tinsel lead
wires are silver coated flat braided ribbon cables with soft rubber jackets.
They are glued and stitched to the spider and the connections are offset at the
terminal to align with the cone brace indentation and support extended
excursion.
Speaker Terminals: The
terminals are spring loaded and nickel-plated for solid connections with speaker
wire up to 11 gauge.
Break-in Period:
Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L7 speakers, they require a
break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The
high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff
"out-of-the-box". Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow
the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A
"broken-in" subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother
response, and greater low-bass extension.
Enclosure
Compatibility
Power Handling: Power
handling varies depending upon the enclosure, as listed below. The power
handling specifications listed with the vented enclosure recommendations apply
only when a 25Hz, 24dB/octave subsonic filter is used with this woofer; if no
subsonic filter is used, the power rating will decrease and excessive port
noise can occur.
Recommended Sealed Box
Volume:
- Compact (minimum enclosure
volume): 0.66 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
- SQ (maximum enclosure volume):
1.0 cu/ft; the woofer can handle up to 600 watts RMS
Recommended Vented Box
Volume:
- Compact: 1.25 cu/ft;
2.5" x 11.25" port opening; 19.75" port depth; the woofer can
handle up to 450 watts RMS
- SPL/Deep Bass: 2.25 cu/ft;
3" x 11.25" port opening; 18" port depth; the woofer can
handle up to 450 watts RMS
Cutout:
The woofer will not mount in a standard enclosure with a round cutout. Instead,
the woofer must be mounted in an enclosure with a 9.5" x 9.5" square
opening.
