Our take on the Kicker TS10L52

Is space an issue in your ride? Have no fear, Kicker will get you on the road with powerful bass in a space-saving package. The TS10L52 enclosure packs a powerful Solo-Baric L5 subwoofer into a compact truck box that's ported for big bass output.

The square Solo-Baric L5 10" sub provides legendary bass performance, thanks to its aluminum-treated composite cone and Santoprene rubber surround. The woofer handles plenty of power, for bass that bumps loud and clear. The enclosure's 2-ohm impedance draws maximum performance from your mono subwoofer amplifier.

The box features sturdy medium density fiberboard construction, covered with heavy-duty gray carpeting, and set off by a contrasting black front panel with a prominent Kicker logo. Sturdy spring post terminals allow easy and secure speaker wire connections.

Enclosure
Woofer Features

Enclosure

Box Construction: The box is built from 0.75" thick medium density fiberboard (MDF) and covered with black and gray carpet. On the right side is the port, approximately 2" tall and 7.25" wide.

Placement: The enclosure is shaped to sit behind the seat of a pickup truck or coupe, the enclosure has been engineered to provide the best bass response when firing into the seat back.

Logo: The Kicker logo is embroidered on the front baffle to the left of the sub.

Speaker Terminals: The box has one set of binding posts that will accept banana plugs, dual banana plugs, pin connectors, or bare wire up to 11 gauge. The terminals are recessed on the left side of the box.

Woofer Features

Dual Voice Coils: The woofer has two 4 ohm voice coils. Within the enclosure the voice coils are wired in parallel so the woofer presents a 2 ohm load at the terminals.

Square Design: By making the Solo-Baric square, Kicker is giving you the most possible cone area (Sd) for a given size baffle, 16% to 20% more area than a conventional round subwoofer. More cone area means the Solo-Baric L5 moves more air, resulting in louder, deeper bass.

Cone Materials: The square cone is made of SoloKon, an ultra high performance composite, which remains rigid, minimizes cone flex and lowers harmonic distortion. SoloKon consists of a unique one-piece, aluminum vapor-deposit material that moves as a lightweight piston, exhibiting power and control. A rear cone brace integrates into the SoloKon with a continuous contact perimeter weld, which offers unmatched strength and resistance to deformation under pressure.

Surround: The tough, flexible Santoprene rubber surround has a long-throw, positive-roll design, which controls extreme cone excursion and is highly tear-resistant. The corners of the surround are ribbed to ensure linear cone motion. The surround is stitched to the reinforced cone edge, making separation between them virtually impossible, even in the harshest conditions.

Spider: The woofer is equipped with a wide poly-cotton spider which easily handles high cone excursions due to its increased diameter and unique shape.

Enhanced BAM (Basket And Motor) Assembly: The Solo-Baric L5 utilizes a high strength stamped steel basket which features a low-profile open design and provides a solid foundation for the precision-aligned motor assembly. Perimeter venting in the BAM relieves pressure from under the spider, supports linear excursion, and helps dissipate heat from the voice coil and motor structure.

UniPlate Construction: The Solo-Baric L5 features a one-piece UniPlate construction with a vented hyper-extended pole piece and backplate. This unique design provides the following benefits:

  • Optimizes heat transfer efficiency for cooler operation and maximum power handling ability
  • Eliminates erratic magnetic flux from the voice coil gap
  • Releases pressure under the suspension for uniform cone movement and responsive low bass
  • Prevents the voice coil from bottoming out and corresponding damage

Tinsel Lead Wires: The sleeved, high-power tinsel lead wires eliminate broken leads and power loss due to the common use of insufficient-gauge lead wires. The lead wires are stitched to the spider to relieve stress on the connections.

Break-in Period: Due to the complex nature of Kicker Solo-Baric L5 woofers, they require a break-in period in order to produce optimum low-bass response. The high-performance suspension system makes the speakers very stiff "out-of-the-box". Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A "broken-in" subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Hits HARD

Written By Swimmer, Hawaii on Wednesday, February 20, 2008

I bought this sub and enclosure because I have limited trunk space in the back of my corvette. It exceeded my expectations by a lot. I am powering the sub with a Kenwood KAC-9104D with no problems at all. I highly recommend this sub and enclosure.

Kicker TS10L52

Written By brad, Boston, MA on Tuesday, January 15, 2008

I Have this sub and enclosure in my 04' tacoma extra cab. Excellent fit for my limited space. I have an alpine Mrp-M450 running at 2 ohms. For a 10inch sub, i have excellent bass in all kinds of music. I do have to say i had to rebuild the box after the glue on the front panel came undone, after new glue and some screws the problem was fixed.

SLAMMING BASS!!!!!

Written By MARCO, Maryland on Monday, December 31, 2007

Purchased a 10 inch Solar Baric L5 and I have to say that this sub/enclosure combination is legit! In my previous vehicles, I have always ran a two 12 inch sub setup and I have to say that this ONE 10 inch blows everyone one of my previous systems away! This was installed into my '05 Dodge Magnum and I have to say that it produces some serious bass. I like the fact that it is a small size yet it has got a lot of boom to it. I paired it up with a Kicker ZX.5 5-Channel Amplifier along with 2 pairs of Boston Acoustics SX60 components. In the end, this is the PERFECT choice for those wanting to save space and have some deep bass!

Good Bass.

Written By Brenden, Lindenhurst, NY on Monday, August 27, 2007

I also choice this box for the space it leaves me in my trunk. The bass is pretty good for the sub but I think thats do to my amp not powering as much as the sub can handle. You have to remiber this is a 10inch I forget that sometimes because it hits as hard as my freinds 12inchs if not harder. I have a Kicker zx250.2 I must say its pretty nice for the money. I also have the Jensen VM9412 which doesn't do much for the bass either I think but has awesome Graphics so its fine with me. Great Lows and Pretty Good Highs well see after I get a bigger amp. Bought the 400.1 and returned it the next day. Looking for a bigger amp or mabye an upgrade to the 12 inch....I like my bass. Great For A Starter Kit, and The Money.

My goodness, this thing is in the trunk of my honda civic with a 400W Kicker amp. This thing kicks like a 12" subwoofer. Does not take up much space in my trunk and sounds awesome.

The type of bass you get from your component subwoofer doesn't depend on the woofer alone. You'll need a strong, tightly constructed enclosure for optimum subwoofer performance.
