Zone for the cone

This single voice coil subwoofer features a specially-designed reinforced cone to pump out the lows while maintaining a top-mount depth of only 4-3/8". And with the included clearance plate the sub can sit in a recess in the back of the enclosure, letting you make a thin box even thinner. The basket's full perimeter venting and UniPlate™ back plate and pole piece keep things cool, supplying outstanding thermal management in a thin sub.

Power handling and flexibility

This sub handles up to 350 watts RMS to bring out the depth your music's been missing, while its 2-ohm impedance draws maximum power from your amp. This versatile sub works well in sealed or ported enclosures.

Features

Rubber Magnet Boot: A black rubber boot covers the outside edge of the magnet structure to improve the cosmetics of the woofer and protect the magnet during installation. The boot is removable if needed for tight installations.

Break-in Period: The high-performance suspension system makes the speaker very stiff out-of-the-box. Approximately 2 weeks of daily playing will allow the suspension to break-in and reach its optimum equilibrium. A broken-in subwoofer will exhibit stronger bass performance, smoother response, and greater low-bass extension.

Shallow-Mount: Kicker's new CVT series is designed to minimize depth, giving you subwoofer options where standard enclosures don't fit. The solid-pole design allows the woofer to be mounted directly against the rear wall of a sealed enclosure. The spring-loaded binding posts are mounted parallel to the cone surface to minimize depth. Also the steel Clearance Plate enables you to cut out part of the back of the enclosure to create more room for the woofer magnet, subtracting the enclosure wall depth from the equation.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 1.0 ft³ to 4.6 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 1.75 ft³ with a 12-1/2" x 2-1/2" x 20" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 2.25 ft³ with a 12-1/2" x 3" x 20-1/2" slot port

Customer Q&A

Q
What is the minimum wattage for these? I may use two of these wired in parallel in one box with a Kicker 46CXA400.1T monoblock, so it will be 200 watts to each sub.

Greetings Larry, and thank you for your question. Kicker recommends a minimum of 125 watts form the CVT122. Two paralleled running at 1 ohm from the Kicker CXA400.1 will put 200 watts on each sub. Well above the minimum.

Q
Would a sealed or ported enclosure be better or does it matter for this?

I've got 2 12s in a non ported enclosure under my back seats in a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 sport and they sound really good. These subs are a shallow sub so they are going to sound different than a normal full size sub. I'm pushing a 1500 watt amp to power them.

Q
What type of amp should I get if I have 2 kicker cvt 12s?

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.
