About the Kicker CompR 43CWR82

Bob Bihlmayer

Overbuilt? More like built just right

Kicker designed their CompR subs for people who love to hear strong bass in their music. The CompR 43CWR82 8” subwoofer comes equipped with a tough, polypropylene cone that stays rigid during intense play sessions so you hear accurate bass. A custom-designed back and top plate give the woofer plenty of room to travel, while the durable rubber surround helps to control cone movement during a heavy workout. This sub uses extensive venting in its heavy steel basket to shrug off heat, so you can count on reliable performance.

Product Research

Features

Dual Voice Coils: This woofer features dual 2Ω voice coils, offering wiring flexibility. When the voice coils are wired in parallel, the woofer presents a 1Ω load. When the voice coils are wired in series, the woofer presents a 4Ω load.

Sealed Enclosures: Sealed enclosures provide the most control over a woofer and provide accurate sonic reproduction, making them suitable to all types of music. Kicker recommends sealed enclosures from 0.4 ft³ to 1.0 ft³.

Vented Enclosures: Vented (or ported) enclosures typically provide better overall efficiency than sealed so they are suitable for use with smaller amplifiers, giving you more bass output from less power. Kicker recommends ported enclosures in the following range:

  • Minimum Enclosure Volume: 0.8 ft³ with an 8" x 1.5" x 20-3/4" slot port
  • Maximum Enclosure Volume: 1.2 ft³ with an 8" x 2" x 19-1/8" slot port

Note: Although smaller than optimal, the prefabricated enclosures we list on the accessory page produce very good results.

Q
I have a Alpine UTE-73BT, can the sub be wire directly to this Alpine unit?

1 answer
A
No. You need an external amplifier for any non-powered sub

Q
What way is better to wire a single dual voice coil sub parallel or series?

A
Depends on the load your amp is rated at. Is your amp 1 ohm stable?
jason  Jan 28, 2020
A
Positive to positive Negative to negative To factory wires
rick  Oct 22, 2018
A
Depends on a lot of factors, mainly the impedance it can handle. Series would raise the impedance, generally being safer or more conservative
matthew  Oct 22, 2018
A
This depends on your Amplifiers rated output. Your impedance (ohms) will either be 1/2- parallel, or double - series of the rated ohms that the woofer is rated at. Parallel will be louder, if your Amp is rated for that impedance. Just don't throw components together, a properly matched system will always sound the best, and last for many years without being strained.
jeffery a  Oct 22, 2018

Depends on your amp. Parallel will halve the impedence of the coils. Two 8 ohm coils in parallel present a 4 ohm load to the amp. Two 8 ohm coils in series = 16 ohm load. Parallel is probably best, just make sure the load is not lower than your amp's comfort range to avoid amp damage.

i plan on installing 2 of these subs and need to know what size amplifier is needed to drive these subs?

I installed a single sub using the factory amp in a Chevy 2002 Tahoe, I've had no issues with the installation and the Factory installed equipment, hope this helps

Thanks for your question. For information on selecting the best amp for your subs I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine the differences between the amp models and help you make the best choice for your system.

I installed 2 of these subs in an f150 recently and I used a Rockford Fosgate R500 X1D and it works great. The amp is rated at 500 watts at 2 ohms but it actually puts out around 600.
