About the Kicker 43DXA250.4

Buck Pomerantz

Power your speakers

Kicker's DXA250.4 4-channel amplifier can send 30 watts RMS to each of your front and rear speakers from a compact chassis that'll fit into a lot of places in your vehicle. This amp delivers around three times the power of a typical factory radio, so it'll add a lot of clarity and punch to your music. You can also use the front channels on the DXA250.4 to power your front speakers, and bridge the rear channels together to power a subwoofer with 125 watts RMS.

Works with a factory radio

Kicker's Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT™) allows you to tap into your vehicle's factory speaker wiring for the amp's input signals without needing a converter. If your car stereo only has one set of preamp outputs, the DXA250.4 can apply the signal to its other channels to achieve 4-channel play. The "differential-balanced" inputs also help prevent audio interference and noise from entering the system.

Tone controls to make it sound right

The DXA250.4 features separate controls for the front and rear channels so it can work with a variety of different speakers or subs. High-pass filters clear out rumble from small speakers so they can play more efficiently, while low-pass filters adjust the frequencies going to your subs, so they'll play bass cleanly. Bass boosts on the front and rear channels add some extra foundation to the sound if you want.

Features

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement methods for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for determining an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over the full frequency range of the amp with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels at a reference of 1 watt. CEA-2006 allows consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers on equal footing.

DXA250.4 Output: Measured under CEA-2006 conditions the Kicker DXA250.4 is rated at 30 watts RMS x 4 channels into a 4-ohm load, 60 watts RMS x 4 channels into a 2-ohm load, and 125 watts RMS x 2 channels into 4 ohms bridged (measured using a 14.4 volt power supply).

Auto Turn-On: There are two ways to automatically turn on the amplifier. Most aftermarket car stereo head units will have a remote turn-on lead, which can be extended to the amplifier location and connected to the amp's Remote terminal. If connecting the amplifier to a factory stereo, or a head unit without a remote turn-on lead, the amp can automatically turn on using the DC Offset mode. The amp detects a 6-volt DC surge on the signal inputs and turns the amplifier on. There is no switch on the amp to select the Turn-On method.

Protection Circuitry: The DXA250.4 has protection circuitry that will turn the amp off in the event of overheating, over voltage (over 16 volt input), under voltage (under 10 volt input), and short circuit (speaker output). If the Protection LED on the right side of the amp illuminates red, the protection circuit has engaged and the amp will not play until the problem is resolved.

Dual Input Sensitivity: The DXA250.4 can receive low- or high-level signals from your car stereo source unit at the amplifier's left and right RCA inputs. The low-level signal can be sent from the source unit's RCA line-level outputs. In this case, the Input Sensitivity switch on the amp should be set to "LO". A high-level signal can come from the source unit's speaker outputs, and connected to the amplifier using the Kicker KISL adapters. The Input Level switch should be set to "HI".

Fail-Safe Integration Technology (FIT): FIT utilizes isolated differential inputs, rejecting noise and electrical interference for the quietest operation possible. FIT also allows Kicker amps to accept output from nearly any factory or aftermarket head unit.

Controls

Separate Controls: The 4-channel DXA250.4 is essentially two 2-channel amps in the same chassis. Amp 1 (front) and Amp 2 (rear) have separate inputs and independent controls for input level (gain), crossover, and bass boost.

Input Level: The DXA250.4 has a two position (in/out) switch to set the input level type. It can be pressed in for High (for speaker level) or set to out for Low (for line level).

Fader Switch: The amplifier can be connected using two sets of inputs or only one set. If using front and rear inputs, the Fader switch should be set to On. If only one pair of inputs is connected, you can set the Fader switch to Off and drive all four channels from the single stereo input.

Gain: The input gain is continuously variable. The gain range is governed by the input level switch: 250mV to 10V for speaker level (HI) and 125mV to 5V for line level (LO). A small screwdriver is needed to adjust the gain.

Crossover Frequency: The front and rear internal crossovers can be independently configured as high-pass, low-pass, or off (full range). When activated, you can adjust the crossover frequency between 50 and 200 Hz. The slope is 12 dB/octave. A small screwdriver is needed to adjust the crossover frequency.

KickEQ Bass Boost: The separate KickEQ bass boost circuits provide a signal boost centered at 40 Hz. The bass boost is continuously variable between 0 and 12dB. A small screwdriver is needed to adjust the amount of bass boost.

Installation

Wiring Recommendations: Kicker recommends that the amplifier be connected to the vehicle's battery using 8 Gauge power and ground wiring. An external 60 amp fuse should be installed on the power wire within 18" of the battery. There are no fuses included or built into the amplifier.

Kicker Extended Warranty Offer: Kicker will extend the amp's standard warranty by an additional year (for a total warranty of three years) when it is installed with a qualifying Kicker amplifier installation kit. Kicker recommends the PK8, CK8, and ZCK84 wiring kits for this amp. The amplifier and installation kit must be purchased from an authorized Kicker dealer.

Connections

Left Side of Amplifier: The DXA250.4 has terminal strips for connecting the power and speaker wires. For a clean, secure installation, ring terminals and/or spade connectors should be used. A flat head or Phillips head screwdriver (not supplied) is required to tighten/loosen the terminals. The amp's connections are as follows:

  • GND (ground): Terminal will accept a ring terminal or spade connector up to 1/2" wide. 8 gauge ground wire is recommended.
  • REM (remote turn-on): Terminal will accept a connector up to 5/16" wide. 18 gauge is recommended
  • +12V (power): Terminal will accept a ring terminal or spade connector up to 1/2" wide. 8 gauge power wire is recommended.
  • Speaker Outputs: Terminals accept spade connectors up to 5/16" wide. Markings are provided on the terminals for bridging the amplifier.

Right Side of Amplifier:

  • RCA Inputs: two pairs of RCA jacks, used for line level or speaker level inputs with KISL

Q
Does this have an internal fuse?
thomas p  Aug 23, 2018
1 answer
A
Hi, I don't want you in when I'm telling you the wrong thing. As for the fuse, I definitely remember he recommending a 60 amp external with an 18in of the battery when wiring. As far as internal, I think it's just got itself safe mean within its protection Hardware ( sea protection mode) Regardless of it having an internal fuse or not, it essentially does the exact same as it would if the line was fuse to battery, we should definitely be done in any situation regardless. All and all, I will say that that amplifier definitely did exceed my expectations, I just unfortunately had this in my back due to car problems resulting in that said car being totaled. But the Crutchfield team was more than sympathetic with my circumstances and we're more than happy to refund my purchase for in case a potential new car wouldn't fit all of rice that I recovered from my car. Will definitely be buying again anytime is right

Q
What are the dimensions of the amplifier itself? Where are people mounting the amp in a RAM 1500?
micah  Oct 29, 2017
1 answer
A
The chassis measures: 12-3/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 7-1/8"D There's no "one place" it has to be mounted. Under or behind the seats are the most common options in a pickup truck.
