Overview

Our take on the Kicker VSS™ PowerStage System

You've got a great set of wheels, but something's missing: the sound of the GM factory radio leaves a lot to be desired. Low power, less-then-ideal speaker placement, and dialed-back bass all contribute to the unhappy situation. This VSS Powerstage system upgrade by Kicker will transform your Silverado or Sierra's stock radio and speakers into a high-fidelity sound system capable of giving you full, accurate, and richly-textured musical pleasure. And it does it without changing the look of your truck's interior or dash.

processor/amp with wiring

The digital processor/amp and the wiring
are custom-fit for your vehicle.

It plugs into your factory wiring with no cutting

The heart of the system is the Powerstage processor/amp module that plugs in between your car's stock receiver and speakers with the help of a GM-specific wiring harness. Kicker's technicians measured the acoustics of the truck's interior, then developed a program to get the strongest and cleanest audio performance possible from the stock speakers. The Powerstage module breathes new life into your vehicle's factory system, automatically correcting for the limitations of the factory speakers, then adding plenty of power so the speakers can sound their best.

Of course, there's a subwoofer with it

It wouldn't be a sonic upgrade without a subwoofer to bring bass magic to the mix. Kicker includes a custom-fit, powered subwoofer that mounts under the right rear seat. A 200-watt amplifier provides the power you need to feel the bass from the 10" sub in the front seat.

Substage for 2007-up Silverado/Sierra

Substage™ for the Silverado/Sierra
mounts under the rear seat.

Do it yourself and save

This VSS upgrade package comes with all the hardware and brackets you'll need, and all the wiring is pre-cut and terminated to help make the installation easier. Step-by-step, illustrated instructions make this sonic upgrade a fun and rewarding project.

Important Note: This upgrade package will only work with a 2014-up Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra Crew Cab with the basic audio system. It will not work in the Classic body style, or a vehicle equipped with adjustable pedals, or in a Silverado/Sierra with the Bose® sound system.

This is a well designed product with evrything needed to complete the upgrade from an okay sound system to a great system.

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the way to go folks for your 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab. I didn't want to lose the features of my stock radio particularly the 8" LCD screen, backup camera, USB connections, Bluetooth mic, etc. You'll get a fuller, richer sound out of your stock system. Some installation tips that the instructions don't provide: 1. Poke a hole through the inside wall of rubber grommet with a 4" piece of coat hanger. Tape the power cord to the coat hanger to pull it through the firewall grommet. Use KY jelly to make it easier to pull through. 2. Remove the 3 screws holding the AC vent, remove the AC vent and it will be easy to run the harness from the radio to under the dash. 3. At the rear door, run your hand holding the subwoofer harness under the carpet to the rear wall. Then you will have lots of cord to connect the harness to the subwoofer. 4. You will need a deep socket to remove and reinstall the bolts for the sub. It's all plug and play. Took me about 4 hours to install. It's a great upgrade to your stock system.

Pros: 1. You keep your stock radio features, 2, Plug and Play, 3, Improved sound and bass, 4 Crutchfield support for installation support if you need it.

Cons: 1. Way too expensive, 2, Volume control increase, if any, not what I expected.

Much improved

I have a 2015 Silverado crew cab with the 8" touch screen navigation non Bose system. The stock system sounded very dead and was not very loud. I shopped around my area and had estimates of 1900 to 2500 to install separates in all 4 doors, an amp and a truck sub box under the rear seat. I just wasn't keen on hacking up the wiring in a brand new truck so I chose to go this route. Am very happy. It was plug and play in that no cutting or splicing was necessary. The stock system now sounds much more powerful and with a lot more bass. I did opt to change out the rear door speakers with Infinity speakers and the rear seat audio was GREATLY improved. With that said, last week I replaced the door speakers with Infinity 6x9 speakers and the doors now have a pounding mid bass that wasn't present before. You will be happy with the system as is, I just had to tinker and to my surprise, it ended up even better. The little 50x4 w/rms amp drives the hell out of those new Infinity speakers! Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary but like I said previously, the kit as is was a great improvement! It did take me almost 3 hours to install the Kicker system. Not a fast install but a clean install and if you take your time like me and are just somewhat handy, this is a NO BRAINER to install. I recommend this setup without question.

Pros: Easy install, no cutting or splicing. Very clean installation with everything out of sight! Sounds great!

Cons: A bit pricy.

Fairly Good

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Pretty good upgrade, I am sure you can spend less and get more out of other individual components. I did not want to do major alterations to the truck so I decided to go with this Kicker unit. It took about 3 hours to install. You do have to take your dash bezels around the radio off to make the audio connections. This is the hardest part, for fear of breaking the bezel. You also have to run 2 power wires from the battery for this equipment. This is a little more than a plug in play installation since you have to take paneling apart to run all the wiring. The sub sounds really good, I would have been happy with a Bose equivalent. The bass on the Kicker, is way beyond that of factory Bose equipment. I would buy it again.

Pros: fairly easy install, great bass, sub does not take up to much space

Cons: I wish it had a remote bass knob for the dash, kinda pricey

Not bad not great

Well designed in terms of installation, but don't expect it to be transformational. Mid and highs are better, but bass is not crisp, it boomy if you know what I mean. For the price, the bass should be better.

They will absolutely work. The KS series speakers are a recommended fit in their respective locations and will certainly handle the full power output of the PowerStage system. You'll get much better performance using these speakers over their original factory counterparts. I hope that helps! [ Ryan  Dec 11, 2015 ]  Staff
