About the Kicker VSS™ SubStage™ SF150C09

John Pollard

Custom-built bass for your vehicle

Are you disappointed with the level of bass your factory system provides, but don't like the idea of installing a universal subwoofer and wiring kit? The VSS SubStage powered subs by Kicker are made to fit in specific vehicles, so you get harnesses that connect to your factory wiring, and a sub that's made to mount where your particular vehicle has space. Each system comes with vehicle-specific instructions that guide you every step of the way. The package also includes all of the wiring and hardware you need to complete the installation — that means no running to the hardware store to find a part that you didn't know you'd need.

Ready to rumble

The SubStage doesn't skimp on power and performance — it comes equipped with a 10" sub powered by a perfectly matched 200-watt amp, all housed in a custom enclosure that's optimized for sound quality. You'll look forward to rumbling lows that can play back the biggest digital drum beat yet also deliver the low-frequency subtleties of a standup bass. Kicker's earned their reputation for making subs that crank out bass you can feel and the SubStage is no exception.

The SubStage SF150C09 fits the 2009-12 Ford F-150 Super Crew Cab, and the subwoofer installs under the passenger's side of the rear seat. This kit will not install in 2009-10 models with the Sony factory audio system. It connects to the factory stereo via two wire taps for signal, and attaches to the battery for power. Please identify your car before purchasing to make sure it'll work with this package, or you can call one of our Advisors at 1-888-955-6000 to confirm fit.

A
More details are needed on your 2017 F150 to check if this can work in it. I recommend contacting an advisor on 1-800-324-9695 to discuss this and check its fitment

Q
Will it work on a 2014 F150 with Microsoft Sync?

A
Yes
charles  Jan 03, 2020
A
If you have the factory sub already (Sony), it should be a direct fit.

Q
can this work with an aftermarket HU?
dane  Sep 19, 2017
1 answer
A
Yes, because it splices into the speakers wiring and don't actually plug into anything.
dpuglas  Sep 19, 2017
Q
Does this have a built in cross over?
anthony  May 26, 2017

A
It's just one sub with an attached amp....no crossover.
james v  Jun 01, 2017
A
I believe it does, it only produces low frequencies. I replaced all my factory speakers with infinity and there is no need for high pass crossovers for the door speakers. The sub is so efficient you end up turning down the bass to the 1/2 way mark.
george  May 26, 2017
Q
How was the install?(hard, time consuming, any need to knows before starting)

We have not received any answers from other customers on your question. I would recommend reaching out to an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to help answer your question.

Q
Can this be used with high level outputs (pre-amp outs) or just with the speaker level input harness?
michael  Feb 05, 2016
4 answers
A
Mike, Based on the instructions and the wiring harness that was shipped with the amplified sub, it appears that it can only be used with the speaker level input harness which is the harness I used. I didn't recall seeing any RCA jacks on the sub for preamp outlets to connect to. Good sub though. It was a very clean and easy way to add bass to a stock system. Jason
jason  Feb 07, 2016
A
Just speaker level
rodney  Feb 06, 2016
A
not sure, I connected to speaker level input
james  Feb 05, 2016
A
Quick correction: pre-amp outputs are considered low level while speaker level inputs are high. Anyway, I would imagine one could rig this to get input from pre-outs, but that would involve a powered converter to simulate the gain introduced by speaker level signals. This subwoofer is designed to be used with the supplied harness which taps into the factory high level (speakers) outputs feeding the front speakers. I would imagine the Crutchfield techs would be able to answer whether rigging a pre-out to feed a high level input is possible or recommended.

Q
Does the amp have a gain control? Seems like some reviewers talk about having to turn the bass on the factory head unit all the way down to keep from overpowering the factory door speakers.

i don't recall seeing one when I installed it, also there was nothing in the instructions referring to a gain control.
jason  Oct 01, 2015

No gain control. You have to use the head unit.

I do not remember seeing a gain control. This is an awesome unit. These folks may not know how to use there balance controls. I keep my bass a little over half way.

No gain control, I adjusted my bass to -2, sounds great, although I do not have factory speakers either
