About the Kicker VSS™ SubStage™ SSICRE07

John Pollard

Custom-built bass for your vehicle

Are you disappointed with the level of bass your factory system provides, but don't like the idea of installing a universal subwoofer and wiring kit? The VSS SubStage powered subs by Kicker are made to fit in specific vehicles, so you get harnesses that connect to your factory wiring, and a sub that's made to mount where your particular vehicle has space. Each system comes with vehicle-specific instructions that guide you every step of the way. The package also includes all of the wiring and hardware you need to complete the installation — that means no running to the hardware store to find a part that you didn't know you'd need.

Ready to rumble

The SubStage doesn't skimp on power and performance — it comes equipped with a 10" sub powered by a perfectly matched 200-watt amp, all housed in a custom enclosure that's optimized for sound quality. You'll look forward to rumbling lows that can play back the biggest digital drum beat yet also deliver the low-frequency subtleties of a standup bass. Kicker's earned their reputation for making subs that crank out bass you can feel and the SubStage is no exception.

The SubStage SSICRE07 fits the 2007-up Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra Crew Cab, and the subwoofer installs under the passenger's side of the rear seat. This kit will not install in 2007 Classic models. It connects to the factory stereo via two wire taps for signal, and attaches to the battery for power. Please identify your car before purchasing to make sure it'll work with this package, or you can call one of our Advisors at 1-888-955-6000 to confirm fit.

Features

Overview: Kicker's SoundGate SubStage factory audio upgrade kits are designed to fit in specific year/make/model vehicles. The SSICRE07 is compatible with select 2007 and later GM crew cab pickups (please confirm fit with the Crutchfield vehicle selector). Included with the system are a 10" subwoofer in a custom enclosure, subwoofer amp, and all the necessary cables to power the amplifier and connect to the factory radio.

The power cable is connected to the accessory lug in the engine compartment. Specific wire routing instructions are included for the power cable and for tapping into the factory wiring for the subwoofer's signal input.

Q
I installed this in my Silverado and love it. I want more. What would be the next upgrade for more bass?

Glad you are enjoying the Kicker! That sub is self-powered and self-contained so it is not really possible to upgrade it. We could talk about adding a 2nd subwoofer or upgrading the speakers. You can connect with one of our friendly product advisors to discuss the best options here: https://www.crutchfield.com/I-rET1c290/S-SUliZgSTXG7/support/ContactUs.aspx

Q
Does this work if i have the bose system in my 17 silverado? If so can you install yourself or hire someone to do it?

For the 2017 Crew Cab (Bose and non-Bose), the Kicker SSICRE14 is the recommended model: www.crutchfield.com/p_206SSIRE14/item.html You can definitely install it yourself and we'll be here to help; we provide lifetime tech support with every purchase so, you can always call with any problems or questions: https://www.crutchfield.com/Support/TechSupport.aspx

Q
if i install a after market deck, can i control the bass level of just the sub, or is there a bass level control on the sub itself?
jason  Mar 23, 2017

A
Yes you can control the bass level from your deck. Theres no adjustment on the sub enclosure itself.
brandon c  Mar 23, 2017
A
If your aftermarket deck has the option you can. Just hook it up to that output. The sub does not have any controls by itself.
jason  Mar 23, 2017
A
There is no level control for the sub itself, which is a little disappointing. I guess it is designed that way to work with a complete factory setup. The wiring harness has "high level" speaker wire leads to tap into the factory wiring in the console. I have an aftermarket deck and have been planning to get a "high level" speaker wire to "low level" RCA adapter to plug it into the subwoofer output on the head unit. Haven't had time to do it yet. I can't guarantee this would work, but if it does it would give you the head unit control over the sub. You might want to get a true verification from Crutchfield or Kicker, it is just a theory right now. Even without the the level control it is a nice little unit, and the install is relatively easy. I did put a toggle switch in-line on the power cable and mounted it under the dash so I could switch the sub on and off if necessary, otherwise it is always on. Hope this helps.

Does this system work if you don't have the bose system?

A
Yes it will.
brandon c  Mar 23, 2017
A
Yeah but there's also a non Bose setup that will provide another amp that will make you're system sound like the Bose system
michael  Jun 15, 2016
A
This will depend largely on your specific year/model Chevy or GMC truck. To find out for sure if this will work in your truck, you can enter your vehicle information on our website here: http://www.crutchfield.com/car/carselector.aspx?lp=%2fCar%2foutfitmycar%2fmycar.aspx You can also reach out to an expert Advisor via the "Contact Us" link at the top of our website. Q
will i loose any door speakers by taping into wiring harness ?
harold  Apr 26, 2016

A
The direct answer is NO. Ask your salesman to be sure and sell you everything you need to ensure that you don't though.
brandon c  Mar 23, 2017
A
do you have the Bose system? If yes then there is a sub under your center console between the seats. You would never know it. This system is specifically designed or it. If you have the standard stereo system then I believe there is a cheaper model for you not sure
byron  Apr 26, 2016
A
NO The installation was rather simple. Its Power From Battery through Firewall, and a signal wire that taps into the existing Bose Sub under your center consol. Much easier than Expected and it ROCKS!!!!

Q
will this product work if you have the factory storage box under the rear seat?
robert  May 20, 2015

A
No
brady  May 23, 2015
A
I did not know that the '07-'13 Silverado crew cab had an optional storage box under the rear seat. However, if the storage box is only under the driver side (2/3 section) of the rear split bench seat then the SubStage enclosure should still work. It fits directly under the passenger side (1/3 section) of the rear bench seat. You may have to temporarily remove the storage box during install to route the wiring harness that comes with the unit.
nathan  May 21, 2015
A
The kicker box takes up most of the area under the rear passenger seat. You could probably customize the storage box to fit next to it. But as it sits, it will not fit with a factory storage box if the box extends across both sides under the rear seats.

Q
I'm interested in purchasing this but wondering if it essentially locks me into the stock head unit and speakers. Am I able to upgrade those down the line if I choose to?
kurtis  Apr 20, 2015

A
If you plan on upgrading your head unit down the road it shouldn't be a problem unless you change or bypass the factory harness. If you use harness adapters through Crutchfield, you shouldn't have any issues.
nathan  Apr 22, 2015
A
I've upgraded my entire system. Head unit, door speakers and installed an 1100 watt amp. You can do whatever you want.
jeff  Apr 20, 2015
A
I'm not completely sure. But I do know this woofer is designed as an add on. If I was planning to upgrade the speakers and head unit, I think I would not purchase this woofer and put the money towards building a system from the ground up. With new stock systems, many functions are integral to others so splitting them up doesn't work well. Not to mention Bose I believe utilizes speakers with an odd resistance which makes piecemeal in a system together hard. I hope that helps.

Q
When using this with a bose system, does the factory subwoofer still operate along with the soundgate sub?
wayne  Mar 03, 2015

A
Nots sure. But I like mine and it sounds good. To be honest with you I think the Bose sub only works while watching a movie. But not sure.
brady  Mar 03, 2015
A
I believe it does because the control wire to the original sub is still intact, just spliced into with a splice clip. Power is never cut to the original subwoofer also. Though I can't specifically hear it, in pretty sure it's providing low to mid range bass response. Hope that answers your question. Justin
justin  Mar 03, 2015
A
Yes, this one is without the extra 4 channel amp. I spoke with Kicker tech support (405-624-8583) and verified it would work in conjunction with the Bose system. I hope you enjoy the speaker kit, like I have. Sean
sean  Mar 03, 2015
A
I believe the factory sub still works since all you are doing is splicing into the signal wires with the provided quick clip splices and spade connectors. Therefore, I believe the signal is just being shared between the two. But it really doesn't matter because you couldn't tell after putting in this sub because it is so much more powerful. If the factory Bose unit is still working it gets masked by the Kicker system.
nathan  Mar 03, 2015
A
I didn't have an existing subwoofer when I purchased the Soundgate Sub Stage so I won't be able to answer your question. My truck wasn't outfitted with the Bose system. I replaced the factory speakers with 4 alpine speakers and had an 1100 watt amp installed to push them. The alpine speakers along with kick from the soundgate made for an awesome fit. It sounds amazing. If you lose the Bose sub I don't think you'll ever miss it if you install the soundgate. I hope this helps.
jeff  Mar 03, 2015
A
Yes ... you only tap into the signal
