Our take on the Kicker ZX250.2

Kicker's high-end ZX series amplifiers set the standard for powerful sound. Convenient top-mounted controls and a tasteful design make your Kicker installation stand out from the crowd. A Kicker amp gives your music fullness, accuracy, and plenty of power.

The ZX250.2 2-channel amp drives your speakers with 85 watts per channel. No inflated "peak power" ratings here — you can trust that this amp's CEA-2006 compliant rating reflects a true measure of its capabilities. An extruded aluminum heatsink and unregulated power supply allow your ZX250.2 to deliver maximun energy to your speakers while internal protection against short circuits, over-voltage, and thermal overload ensures peace of mind and uninterrupted enjoyment.

A "soft start" feature lowers the initial shock to your system when powering up, and delayed turn-off does the same when powering down. The built-in variable frequency filters adjust the amp's output to get the most out of your speaker setup, whether you're running full-range speakers or subs. Use the bass boost control to dial in the exact amount of low-end bump you want.

Features

CEA 2006 Compliant: The ZX250.2's power ratings are measured according to the strict standards dictated by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). These standards allow you to accurately compare the rated power output of all CEA 2006-compliant amplifiers, even if they come from different brands. Manufacturers who adhere to the standards can display the CEA 2006 logo on their products and packaging.

Kicker "Living Loud" Certified Power Certificate: The amplifier comes with a certificate that indicates the total maximum wattage of the particular amplifier, along with the model number, serial number, tested date, and whether the amplifier passed the total harmonic distortion, signal-to-noise ratio, and protection circuit tests.

Operation: The ZX amplifier is capable of operating in two channel stereo, bridged/mono, and stereo plus mono mode simultaneously.

  • Two Channel Stereo: operates in 2-channel mode into a minimum impedance of 2 ohms per channel
  • Bridged (Mono): operates in a 1-channel mode into a minimum impedance of 4 ohms
  • SAMS (Stereo and Mono Operation Simultaneously): operates in tri-way mode into a minimum impedance of 4 ohms mono and 2 ohm per channel in stereo simultaneously with the use of optional passive crossovers

Speaker-level Input: The high-level input connection is included to allow use with sources that do not have RCA preamp level outputs. Only one type of input signal (speaker-level or line-level) should be used with this amplifier.

Gain Control: The gain control matches the output of the source unit to the input level of the amplifier.

Crossover Switch: The crossover switch allows you to select the internal crossover to be used for either highpass or lowpass use. It can also be turned "off" for full-range use.

Variable Filter: The internal filter can be set for low-pass, high-pass, or full-range operation. The filter can be adjusted from 50 to 200 Hz, and has a slope of 12 dB per octave.

KickEQ Bass Boost: The KickEQ bass boost circuit provides up to 18 dB signal boost at 40 Hz.

RCA Output: The amplifier features a low-level RCA output to pass the audio signal to another amplifier in your system instead of having to run another set of RCAs back to your head-unit. Either input method (hi-level or low-level) will provide a low-level output signal at the RCA output terminal.

SORT (Short circuit, Over-voltage, Reverse polarity, Thermal) Protection Circuitry: The SORT protection circuitry guards against accidents and undesired operation. The Power LED on the left side of the amp glows green and the power indicator on top of the amp glows red when the amplifier is connected correctly and SORT has not been engaged. If the red Protection LED illuminates, SORT has been engaged and the amplifier is in protect mode until the problem is resolved.

Mounting: Choose a location that allows at least 4" of open ventilation for the amplifier. Four mounting screws are supplied to hold the amplifier securely in place. Make sure to leave room to be to access the controls on the amplifier. An allen-wrench is supplied to secure you power cables and speaker wire to the amplifier's set-screw terminals.

Inputs and Outputs

Left Side of Amplifier:

  • +12V (power): gold-plated set screw terminal (accepts up to 8 gauge wire)
  • REM (remote turn-on): gold-plated set screw terminal (accepts up to 10 gauge wire)
  • GND (ground): gold-plated screw set terminal (accepts up to 8 gauge wire)
  • Fuse: one 40-amp fuse
