Send TV shows, DVD movies, and stereo music to any room your home wirelessly — Terk's Leapfrog LF-30S system makes it easy. Just connect an A/V source component to the compact transmitter, and hook up the identically sized receiver to any TV or audio system within a 150-foot radius. Terk even includes all the connecting cables you'll need, so you can achieve multi-room audio/video in minutes.

Another great feature: the LF-30S can also transmit infrared remote control commands from your secondary viewing or listening room back to your main system. That means you can use a universal remote in your second room to pause the DVD you're watching, change channels on your cable box, skip a track on the CD you're listening to, adjust the volume of your music — whatever you like! Terk even includes a wired infrared flasher that connects to the transmitter unit. This lets you hide the transmitter behind your components or elsewhere out of sight without losing the ability to relay remote commands.

The system includes one transmitter and one receiver. The LF-30S uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band for a clear signal over longer distances — you won't believe it's wireless. Cables and AC adapters included.

Product Highlights:

  • transmits video and/or stereo audio from TVs, receivers, PCs, DVD players, CD players, cable TV boxes, satellite receivers, and other A/V components

Perfect for what I needed

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This system does exactly what I could have hoped for. I am using it in my bedroom to transmit from the cable box on my dresser to the TV mounted on the wall. I didn't want to pay an electrician to come and drill holes in the wall and it was a difficult spot (between two doors) for me to do myself. I have a 24" TV and the quality is actually very good. The distance between the transmitter and receiver is pretty short so I'm not sure how it would perform over a long distance or on a bigger TV. I am very happy with this purchase.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

It does work to a certain extent and for sheer convenience, it is hard to beat.

Pros: I was able to receive Dish Network channels on another TV without additional wiring.

Cons: The antenna and remote extender are very directional. You have to point the remote control directly at the receiver for it to respond. The receiver is prone to interference from other wireless gadgets like the mouse and keyboards. Use of microwave oven makes images on TV unrecognizable.

Works Fair

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Easy setup. Works fair. Video is good, sound has "some" popping noise. Played with the channel selector on unit helped some. Wife says that late at night the popping noise stopped, so it may be interference from other 2.6GHz devices. 150 feet is a stretch, 50 ft maybe.

Pros: easy to get signal

Cons: interference from other things

Audio interference is very bad and the units are only 20' apart. Not real happy with performance - should have bought the higher dollar unit with higher frequency transmission.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I purchased this unit to replace a digital signal converter box we used on the only TV that was not connected to cable. The digital converter box and indoor antenna produced pitiful reception with constant loss of signal. This unit gives us all the channels we have on cable with clear sound and picture. It was easy to install, took les then 15 minutes. The reasonable price, ease of installation and quality of performance makes this unit a must have to replace a digital converter box and antenna. I highly recommend this product.

Pros: Reasonable price. Ease of installation. Great sound and picture quality, even through a cabinet and a wall.

Cons: Audio/Video cable is a little short making it impossible to place the unit high enough so there won't be interference when someone walks between the sender and receiver.

MY unit works great. But when I attempted to get an additional receiver I was told you can't get one because it was discontinued. So regardless what it says on the box, the unit is not expandable.

This item works great. Hooked up and working in about 15 minutes. Good, clear picture and sound. HD channels come thru nice, better than you'd think. Saves me from having another receiver from Directv and its $10 a month cost.

Pros: Easy to install. Good picture and sound. Saves money!

Cons: Microwave oven has its way with it, but I turn the sound down so no big deal.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I wasn't impressed with the range on these units. I placed my speakers/amp just outside the house on the porch and the results were far less than I expected given the distance is no more than 20' between units. They did OK, but the signal drops out and you get a loud pop or hissing noise when it does. It wouldn't be so bad if the signal just dropped and came back on, but the pops and hissing are very annoying. I would gladly pay more $$ for better signal strength.

but this device isn't really for a home theater type application. If you want a

Sending Wireless TV Signals

Working great in small home

Written By David, Durham, NC on Sunday, June 07, 2009

We have the Leapfrog hooked up to a DVR and sending it to a TV in the bedroom, about 20 feet away through a wall. The picture and sound quality are impeccable -- not HD, but as good as standard television with no degradation with weather conditions. Interestingly, we have a wireless router running in the same frequency range and have not had any signal interference between the two, which was our main concern.

There are two minor issues we have. Although the Leapfrog works great transmitting the DVR's remote signals into the other room, the remote has to be pretty close to the unit in order to get the signal sent, which for us means leaning forward from the bed to change channels, choose recorded shows, etc. The other issue is that any remote (DVR, TV) signal is processed as a sound which the TV makes. It's a bit odd, and the pitch of the sound changes depending on which remote is being used, but it's a minor nuisance.

Overall, we're extremely happy and give it 5 stars -- it works as well as we could have ever wanted, and was a great deal less hassle than arranging for the cable company to put in another jack in the bedroom plus paying for another DVR box.

Terk Leapfrog® LF-30S

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Terk Leapfrog works great in my environment (the transmitter and
receiver are placed about 30 feet apart and can "see" each other without
obstruction). My picture is very clear and receives no interference from my
wireless router, my cordless phone, or my microwave. In my set-up,
though, in which the transmitter sends the signal from my DVR to the
receiver, I have to leave the transmitter, the receiver, and the DVR on all
the time if I want to just turn on my TV and have reception. Because I
typically use that TV only for short bursts, it's too much hassle to have to
turn on 3 additional units, so I leave them on full time. I'm hoping I'm not
burning out any components of either the Terk or my DVR, and I don't like
the energy usage of leaving electronics on, but I don't believe there's an
option. Otherwise, this is an ideal solution to my lack of cable access in
that location.

You'll just have to try it

Written By bmcguffey, FL on Friday, March 09, 2007

I bought the TX/RX set about a year ago. I got rid of a secondary satellite rcvr and use these to broadcast my DVR rcvr to the bedroom. I just ordered an additional Leapfrog rcvr for another room. At first my reception was not great, especially the sound (steady popping sound). I also have a wireless router, wireless alarm system and old cordless phone. Some of my alarm system transmitters were acting up. After I had those checked, my Leapfrog reception cleared up. I don't know if they are the same frequency or this was a coincidence. I have an extra TIVO remote and keep that in the bedroom so I can control the DVR from either room. The remote functions work great.

Bottom line - Try these units, test all 4 channels and see how it works. If you get interference, try turning off other wireless devices in your house one at a time to find the culprit. Last step, decide what you can live with and without.

They do the job...most of the time

Written By Brad, Dallas, TX on Tuesday, August 01, 2006

I have had Leapfrog for a couple years now. For some reason every couple of months or so I have to try different channels and/or reorient the antennas? It only took a couple minutes a few times and it was well worth not running Satellite cable and not paying the extra free for a third receiver.

However, we just got a new 2.4ghz phone and the LeapFrogs no longer work, way too much static in the picture and sound. Note, my 2.4ghz router did not interfere. Just the new phone.

I would give this item 4 stars when there is not interference. But be ready to make a return if you have other 2.4ghz products. I don't live in an apartment but I could see the possibilities of a problems from a neighbors phone.

Wireless A/V Distribution

Written By Anonymous, Bozeman, MT on Friday, February 24, 2006

I didn't buy this product from Crutchfield, I will review it nonetheless.

I bought this device to feed the Tuner 2 A/V channel out of my Dish 942 DVR receiver from one floor to another. First out of the box, I setup the transmit unit in the basement and the receive unit on the main floor so the unit only had to transmit/receive a signal approximately straight up about 10-12 feet away but through a wood floor w/carpet. At first, the audio signal for the default "A" setting (2.413 GHz) was a little "scratchy" so I experimented with different channels being sure they match on both units. I ended up with setting "D" and it sounds pretty good. Adjust your expectations accordingly to that of a wireless device. If you want absolutely crystal clear sound and have the time/money to run wire for the hard connections, then do so but remember this is a wireless device so it won't sound as good as a direct/hard wired connection. Basically the difference between FM radio quality and a CD!

My phone system uses the 5.8GHz frequency so this device did not interfere with the phone. However, my 802.11G wireless network is 2.4GHz but the device still showed no evidence of signal interference with my D-Link Airplus Extreme G wireless router (model DI-624).

Note: Be sure to adjust both square antennas so they are facing each other with both whip antennas oriented in their vertical position.

Hope this helps,

This Item Does Not Work

Written By Stacy, Sperryville, VA on Friday, December 23, 2005

I bought this product to take signal from a downstairs TV to a upstairs TV, a tough task, but as bith rooms are on top of each other I thought I'd give it a try. It did not work. So I said OK I will go from the living room to the kitchen about 20 paces apart with a large open door way. The device still would not work. I got signal, but it was unwatchable. Remember TV before cable? When you had to try and adjust the rabbit ears and hope the snow went away- This was that bad or worse. I returned the item to the store. It may work with in the confines of one room, I don't know.

Inputs, Outputs and Controls

Overview: The Leapfrog LF-30S system by Terk wirelessly transmits audio/video sources to remote TVs, or audio only to remote receivers or powered speakers throughout a home. They use the 2.4 GHz frequency band for transmission for the clearest signal over long distances and eliminate the need for in-wall or external wiring.

Connections: The transmitter may be connected to any audio/video device with RCA audio/video outputs; there is no coax input on the transmitter, so the device connected to the transmitter must have RCA audio and/or composite video outputs. The receiver has RCA audio/video outputs and a RF coaxial output, so it can send signals to any device with RCA audio/video inputs or a RF coaxial input, such as a VCR, TV, camcorder or audio/video receiver.

Adjustable Antennas: The antenna on the receiver and transmitter can pivot and rotate. For best results, the inside faces of the antennas should be facing each other and perpendicular to an imaginary line drawn between the two units

Compatibility: This unit can be used whenever you need to transmit high quality video and/or audio from devices such as DBS receivers, DVD players, camcorders and CD players to a TV or audio receiver located in a remote location of your home or business.
