Our take on the Terk Mini Modulator

Trying to hook up a new DVD player, game console, or camcorder to a TV that only has an antenna jack? Terk's Mini Modulator is what you need. This compact, affordable modulator accepts the audio/video signal from your source component and converts it to RF for use with older TV sets. Hook up your cable TV or off-air antenna feed via the provided coaxial RF input; then, to select your connected A/V component, just turn it on — auto source switching does the rest.

The Mini Modulator can be wall- or cabinet-mounted for neat, out-of-the way installation.

Details:

  • 1 A/V input (composite video and RCA stereo audio)
  • 1 coaxial RF input (for cable or off-air antenna feed)
  • 1 coaxial RF output (for connecting to TV)
  • channel 3/4 switch
  • wall-mountable
  • mono audio output
  • 3-1/4"W x 4-5/16"H x 1-1/2"D
  • warranty: 1 year

Features

Overview: The Terk Mini Modulator can be used to convert a composite (RCA) video and RCA stereo audio signals to an RF signal that can be used on a television which does not have line level inputs. This allows you to connect a source such as a DVD Player or Camcorder (which normally do not have RF outputs) to a television which only has an RF (Coax) input. The audio output by this modulator is mono, and there are no connecting cables supplied with the unit.

Automatic Source Switching: When you turn on the power of the connected video source, the Mini Modulator will automatically switch from the cable or antenna input to the video source as soon as it receives a signal from the source.

Channel 3/4 Switch: The unit has a Channel 3/4 switch on the top, located between the Coax input and output jacks. This switch is used to select either channel 3 or 4 to view the modulator's output on the television . To view the source connected to the RF modulator, the television must be set to the same channel as the switch.

Mounting Options: The modulator can be mounted on a wall or cabinet by using the two keyhole slots on the back of the unit. There is also double-stick tape attached just below the keyhole slots. This tape can be used alone, or with the keyhole slots for mounting purposes.

Inputs and Outputs Notes

  • DC Input: Input for supplied AC adapter.

Outputs:

This item is just what I was looking for to hook up my new DVD player to my very old TV set. It is small, so it doesn't require a lot of space or have to sit on top of your TV or DVD player. Actually, mine is "hidden" behind the TV with the cables/wires so it isn't visible at all. It's a cinch to hook up and gets the job done perfectly.

Terk Mini Modulator

I have coax cable wiring imbedded in my walls for connecting my DVR
output to remote TVs through my house. I just got a new DVR that didn't
have a standard TV channel 3/4 RF output like my previous DVR. So I
purchased a Terk Mini Modulator. It takes a baseband composite video
signal and modulates an RF carrier to provide a standard RF TV channel
output. Either NTSC TV channel 3 or 4 can be switch-selected. The unit was
very easy to hook up, and is so small I simply placed it in my entertainment
cabinet behind my DVR. It did the job perfectly and continues to work
flawlessly. I am very happy with it, and recommend it without reservation
to anyone needing to convert a baseband composite video signal to a
standard RF TV channel output.
