Phenomenal Antenna, great reception and very thin

Written By Mike, Tucson, AZ. on Monday, May 15, 2006

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is a great antenna compared to the big bulky one I received with my system 5 years ago. The only drawback, which isn't a problem, and can be easily the magnetic mount. With theft of anything and everything that is not attached, anyone could walk off with it, and cause you to spend more money to replace it. The initial antenna that came with my system came with an adhesive to permanently mount it. So I used a high quality adhesive to mount it. This new thin antenna is only about 1/4 the size of the original one. And reception is as good if not better than the original.

Best Choice I Made...Other Than Getting Sirius In The First Place!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The Terk ant is awsome! It seems to hold more signal strength than the ant that came with my Sirius Reciver. The only thing I had to do was call back to Crutchfield to see how to get the plastic connector off. Maybe they should include something to show how to do that with the order! Other than that it is great!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This antenna is as good as the one which came with my tuner, with one exception. The connector is not as substantial as the one which came with the tuner. The connector seems to be a 'cheapy' which doesn't hold the connection well.

Break the plastic housing and it works great.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Much better reception than the antenna supplied with my Jensen Sirius (older model) receiver/car adapter kit. Interestingly, I had to break the plastic housing to get the antenna (square) to fit my receiver (round)... Jensen made by Audiovox. Terk made by audiovox. Their customer service had no solutions. My solution: Bought it + Break it = Highly recommend it!

Terk Sirius Antenna

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought this antenna to replace the one which came with my play and plug car docking kit and had been damaged. I received the antenna with 2 days of ordering it. It works so much better then the original antenna which came with the kit. I am getting very good reception in areas where I would previously get "acquiring signal". This is a great replacement antenna.

second try

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is the second of these that I have ordered. It is better than the one that came with the radio, but the antenna wire is too thin, and only lasted a month. If there was a heavier duty one out there, I would get that one. For now, I will keep buying these, and try to be very carefull with it.

I bought this antenna to replace the first antenna that had some wire damage. This antenna is as good, if not better, than the original antenna that came with my tuner kit. That's not to say the stock is bad, but this antenna seems to hold the signal better. Shipping was fast and Crutchfield's service is second to NONE.

Terk Sir-Mini Sirius Antenna

Written By Luanne, Portland, Maine on Monday, March 07, 2005

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This aftermarket satellite antenna is far superior to the Sirius unit sold with the mobile docking station! Receptivity, signal pull and coverage is far superior to what I had with the original antenna. It even has strong reception under overhangs (like gas stations) and heavily forested areas like Maine. Recommend this antenna even to the extent that it's worth getting rid of the OEM antenna due to superior reception.

Product Research

Overview: The Terk SIR-Mini roof-mount satellite radio antenna is a low-profile, high-performance antenna designed specifically for SIRIUS Satellite Radio reception. It mounts to the roof with special magnets that provide years of worry-free performance. The magnetic mount also makes it removable, if necessary.

Dual Mode Functionality: The antenna receives signals from overhead satellites as well as terrestrial repeaters, ensuring you continuous reception.

Cable and Connector: The SIR-Mini antenna features a single 20.5' micro-cable--easier to route than dual-cable antennas. This micro-cable has a curry-colored FAKRA-type SMB connector on the end and plugs directly into single-input SIRIUS Satellite Radio receivers.

Note: For connections to dual-input SIRIUS receivers, the Terk SIR-SP dual-input splitter (item # 209SIRSP) is required.

Installation Tips: When selecting a location for the antenna, make sure the site meets the following conditions:

  • The selected site must have a conductive surface area (e.g. a metal roof or trunk lid) of at least 2 square feet and be at least 5.5 inches (the length of the antenna's "tail") from the rear window molding.
  • The antenna should always be mounted outside and on the highest location of the vehicle (roof/cab). It should never be mounted inside the passenger compartment.
  • The antenna should be free of mechanical (outward opening moon roof) and line-of-sight obstructions, such as roof racks, luggage boxes, etc.
  • Trunk mounting of the antenna is an alternative for hard- or soft-top convertibles with non-metallic rooftops.

System Requirements: In addition to this SIRIUS satellite radio antenna, it is necessary to have a SIRIUS Satellite Radio receiver and a subscription to SIRIUS Satellite Radio in order to receive SIRIUS Radio programming
