This convenient package features a Smart Digital Adapter that lets you connect an XM Direct radio (sold separately, see "Accessories") to your vehicle's non-XM-ready stereo, if it receives Radio Data System (RDS) signals. You'll be able to enjoy XM and see programming information on your stereo's display. The XM Direct radio connects directly to your stereo's antenna input using this adapter. Your vehicle's antenna connects to the adapter as well, so you'll still be able to get reception of over-the-air FM stations. The compact radio and adapter should both fit behind your dash easily. The XM signal "broadcasts" over an unused frequency on the FM dial. XM channel, song, and artist information travels over the RDS frequency, entirely separate from normal FM frequencies, and shows up on your stereo's display. You'll always know who and what's playing. You won't be able to control the XM Direct radio with your in-dash stereo the included wireless remote lets you surf through all of XM's 150+ channels of unrivaled entertainment. A subscription to XM is also required. You can listen to XM in the lower 48 states service not available in Hawaii or Alaska. Note: Many factory and brand-name stereos receive RDS signals you'll know that yours does if the call letters of certain stations in your area show up on your stereo's display.
