Installing a single-input XM Satellite Radio radio tuner in a home, extra-large vehicle (bus, truck, or RV), boat — or any location where the cable that came with your XM antenna isn't long enough for the job? Terk offers the problem-solving XM-EXT50 50-foot extension cable for indoor and outdoor applications. Warranty: 1 year.

Note: The XM antenna is not included with this extension cable. This extension cable is only compatible with a single-input XM tuner; you'll need an adapter to connect this extension cable to an older dual-input XM tuner.

Product Research

Overview: The XM-EXT50 is a 50' extension cable with an in-line amplifier for use with XM antennas; the kit is not compatible with Sirius satellite radio antennas. It can be used for XM mobile or home receivers.

Cable and Connector: The XM-EXT50 antenna extension cable is a single 50' coaxial cable with single SMB connectors (without the plastic FAKRA-type plastic housing) on each end; the input (antenna end, with the amplifier) is a male SMB and the output (tuner end) is a female SMB. The extension cable is equipped an in-line signal amplifier (10dB gain) on one end with a weather-resistant rubber boot. The other end plugs directly into single-input XM Satellite Radio receivers. Note: For connections to dual-input XM receivers, the Terk XM-SP dual-input splitter (item number 209XMSP), or the American International XM-1DAS (item number 003XM1DAS) is required.

Extension Limits: No more than 2 extension kits should be connected back-to-back.

Cable Care: The full length of the extension cable should be used--it should not be cut, spliced or otherwise shortened. The cable should not be kinked. You should avoid bending the cable in a radius of less than an inch. The cable can be used outdoors, but it should not be exposed to severe environmental conditions. The in-line signal amplifier should be mounted upright, oriented so the label is readable right side up.

  • Cable Type: RG-58
  • Frequency: 2300 to 2400 MHz
  • Amplifier Gain: 10dB +/- 1dB @ 2300 MHz
  • Return Loss: -10dB
  • Connectors:
    • Input: male SMB
    • output: female SMB

Antennae extension cable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I needed some music down in my basement workshop and the cost for a new Ghetto Blaster type unit was more than I wanted to spend. So I reactivated my portable SkyFi 2 receiver and setup in shelves on the north side of my basement workshop. Needless to say my original Antennae Cable was way too short, only reaching about 1/3 the way to a southern exposure window. I bought this extension cable, plugged it in to my original antennae after placing it into the window ledge and ran the extension back to my SkyFi unit and POOF there was music in my lonely quiet basement workshop. I probably had an extra 20 feet left in spare cable after the two were connected so there was plenty of extra cable should I decide to move it to another window. The coupler between the old cable and the new extension cable was a little strange being encased in rubber, but I had no problem figuring out how they attached. I felt the cost of the extension cable was a bit pricey for just a cable, but it was cheaper than buying a new music unit like an iPod or something that just plays CDs or local radio. Now I can listen to my Cincy Reds or music on XM, while working on my projects.
