Best speaker wire I've used

Written By Otto, Bradenton Florida on Saturday, June 29, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I've been looking for some really good speaker wire and I have finally found it. I love the plastic tubing around the wires, it's easy to cut with a razor knife, and it helps to contain them so you don't have separate wires running everywhere. The tubing also helps to protect the wires from being kinked or chaffed while routing them all over your car. The speaker wire itself is very easy to strip and solider all around just great stuff.

Pros: Protective tubing Easy to strip Cool colors

Cons: Nothing

Great wire

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Awesome wire. The outer clear coating surrounding the wires is easy to cut through with a blade to strip wires beneath, despite what some of the pansies below say. Makes for good cable protection.

Pros: Looks great. Good quality. Good cable protection.

Cons: None

14 guage Ultra Cable

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Good cable, I bit pricey. Does the job, I think that the plastic cover everyone is complaining about is a good thing. Think about it as a protective barrier so the cables won't get pinched

Pros: Durability

Cons: Price

Not worth the hassle

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Speaker wire is speaker wire right? Just go with a brand name you trust. I thought I'd go with Streetwires, but it wasn't worth the hassle. These wires are encased in clear tubing which not only made it extremely difficult to strip, but also made the diameter twice what it should have been.

Pros: I guess they look cool??

Cons: Hard to strip, large diameter

Nice cables, have to deal with bulk of casing.

Written By DavidF, MD on Thursday, March 21, 2013

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Nice cables, nice feature in being twisted-pair, outer jacket helps maintain twisted-pair integrity. Seems unlikely that in-coming noise would be an issue at speaker level, but perhaps it can help prevent out-going noise.

Pros: Good quality heavy cable, twisted-pair feature, availabilty to order by foot.

Cons: Pricey, bulky.

Nice set of wires

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Ordered these to install an amp (M-1500) and sub (B-17) in my son's car for xmas. Can't go wrong. The additional shielding is a bit of a pain at times but nothing that cannot be overcome with a box cutter.

Bullet proof

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

These wires are awesome. Difficult to strip, especially if you need to take off more than an inch of the outer casing but I knew this going in from reading some reviews. It's also a very large diameter due to the outer casing (bigger than I expected) but I was still able to get it into the doors and through other tight areas without much effort. These wires were part of a complete system, but I can assure you that these wires will not be the weak link!

Pros: Quality, durability.

Cons: None for me, but be aware of the size of the outer casing and difficulty to strip.

Great Product at a Decent Price

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very flexible cable; however, the outer tubing can be considered a blessing or a nuisance... it all depends on how you look at it. I rather have the extra protect the outer tube affords, but routing can be troublesome (especially into doors). So consider the benefit or issues the outer jacket can present before you make your purchase. For me, I feel I made the right decision.

Pros: Very flexible cable. The outer jacket gives me peace of mind to pull cable without worrying about nicking the insulation and exposing raw cable.

Cons: None

good quality

Cons: it was a little hard to strip because of the clear outside layer.

High quality gauge

Written By S, Astoria, ny on Thursday, February 23, 2012

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I liked the quality of this wire very much. It has a very thick vinyl tubing that encases the wires, which makes for good robustness but troublesome routing. IF you want to run this thru your doors, you need a lot of extra room. I had to run conventional wire thru the doors and then splice into the street gauge.

Pros: tough and great wire

Cons: hard to run in tight places, requires additional planning

Awesome durable wiring

This is great speaker wire!

Written By Tim K., Cherry Hill, NJ on Thursday, October 06, 2011

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is great speaker wire! Another reviewer only gave this product 1 star due to the outer plastic shield being too bulky to hide. This adds to the robustness of this product, and was not worth a 1-star rating.

The bottom line is that if you are putting together a nice stereo system, NEVER buy cheap speaker wire. Cheaper, thinner wires can break and degrade the sound of your music. It can also cause strain on your amplifier(s). Buy this StreetWires product, and you will be 100% satisfied. Trust me - I have been building high-end stereo systems for over 25 years, and I always use StreetWires products, and I have never had a single problem.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Perfect for Speakers and sub's under 1000 watts.

Only complaint I possibly have which isn't even a bad one is that the casing for the actual speaker wires is very tough to get through when you're trying to get some extra wire for bridging or just trying to get the wires far apart enough to hook into the amp. But this isn't actually a bad thing since it makes the cables very strong yet flexible and look great!

Better than i expected

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Having just purchased a pair of JL Audio component speakers for my front speakers on my Xterra a friend recommended that I change my old factory speaker wires as well to complement the JL's. Read the great reviews about these particular wires and bought 50 foot. I was suprised at the quality and the weight and impressed at the outer insulating sleeve that protects the + and - wires. Because of the thickness it was a little difficulty routing the wire, but it's doable and reassuring that the wire is well insulated from the elements. So far, the sound has been great and although you pay a bit more it's worth it!

This wire is way to bulky to hide away under the carpet of your car or behind panels. The clear plastic coating around the outside makes it hard to use. Its just not worth the effort and definitely not worth the price.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Very nice, high quality stranded wire. I purchased the 14g and was not disappointed.
The jacket is flexible without stiffness making routing easy. The spiral configuration
does add bulk though, so if you're working through very tight spaces you have to keep
that in mind. If you need something very low-profile, this may not be for you.

The last pair of speaker wire that I bought were Monster cable that I used for a pair Klipcsh

bedroom and the tech that I was talking to recommended the Street/Wire UCT14,14 ga.
clear/trans blue speaker wire. As I am writing this review, my room is filled with the sound of
ZZ Top. My toes are dancing along with the rest of me. Happy Thanksgiving, folk's!

14 gauge Street Wires Ultra Cable speaker wire

Written By Sergio, Sacramento, CA on Friday, May 28, 2010

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This has got to be the best speaker wire for connecting your full-range coaxial speakers or component speakers!...the audio quality is simply amazing!! is an outstanding upgrade over your cheap, flimsy, thin factory speaker wire. I highly recommend this one for all of your stereo system installs. The 12 gauge version of this brand of cable should be used on subs only because it is extremely thick!...always order more than what you think you're gonna need. I ordered 100 feet and it was just enough for a complete install in my vehicle. I give it a full five (5) stars!

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This wire is great! Wouldn't recommend anything else and the price is great too. I might
even suggest using the 16 gauge wire if you have less space to work with because this stuff
is THICK. The outer sheath is a pain to work with like everyone else said but it protects the
wires so well and blocks out a lot of noise that it is worth it.

Cut a line down the sheath down the center, grab the flap with some vice grips and
continue to pull on the loose sheath as you slice down the center of the two speaker wires.

Good stuff

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I used this to run to all my door speakers from a 4 channel amp, It's some tuff stuff, the
wires are twisted, and sheathed in a clear 3/8" plastic hose- really protects the wires. It
is good to lay this stuff in, and not have to worry about it breaking off in the door jamb
pass throughs. It takes flex very well. The only issure was just the outer diameter of the
cable, it gets rather bulky when adding to an existing harness in a door, or when they all
come together back at the amp. Overall 5star

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Not only did I hear good things about this wire, but I also found it to be one of the cheapest deals on the web here at Crutchfield.

When I got the wire, it seemed even bigger than expected. It is easy to strip, very pliable, and looks amazing. Too bad it's buried under my carpet. I'm about to help a friend install a system, so I plan on buying some more of this.

I bought 60 feet, expecting to use abut 40 for my hatchback. Ended up using almost all of it. So if you're a first-timer, I advise getting a lot more than you intend on using.

Serious speaker wire!

Written By Joe, Scottsdale, AZ on Monday, June 01, 2009

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

This is some legit speaker wire. The clear plastic sheath is thick and tough. It's easy to work with and install. One piece of advice, order more than you think you need. I originally thought I was going to install the amp under the passenger seat and since it didn't fit there I ended up going in the cargo area which caused me to run out. I had to go to the local car audio store and pay twice as much for half as good wire.

StreetWires 14-gauge Ultra Cable™ Speaker Wire

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I bought 100ft to install 2 sets of components in my 06' Frontier Crew Cab. and used all 100ft. The wires had a great quality feel to them, but the fact they were so insulated by the outer plastic or what ever it is, got annoying.

When running the wires though the door grommets, proved to be a chore, but it was doable. In the Rear doors where both 6.5's and tweeters were located behind the door panels, i had to cut off the outer plastic to fit wires for both tweeters and 6.5's, which took time, but again, doable. (i know i didnt need to install full componets in the rear, but i wanted to anyway)

I made the mistake of running the left side of the trucks speakers behind the trim in the rear, which also was next to the 4gauge power cable, and it interfeared (sp?) too much to where the speakers wouldn't work, Once i removed the wires from the area, they came back alive, So I just need to run the wires though the middle of the truck on the way back.

All in all, its nice that there is so much protection for these wires, but running as much as I did, it was a PITA getting it though all the trim along the sides, and though the door grommets. But finally getting it all done, I can live with it. Just ask your self if you want the hassle or not. I don't think it does any shielding other than protecting it from the elements around the wire itself from point A to B.

Does the job

I found these wires to be superb, and easy to work with. On my truck I had to drill to get speaker wires to the doors. the outer covering is just under 3/8", so a 3/8" hole is perfect for running these wires. A little dab of silicone and you have a weather tight fitting.
I am very happy with these wires, and I would purchase them again.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Like the person before me said, cut along the length of the wire with some narrow scissors and then cut around to get the outermost protective sleeve off. This sleeve comes in very handy because it doesn't snag as much as just the insulation on the wire would, and it helps protect the wires very well. The sound quality of these wires is exceptional and since the wires are twisted, it keeps all noise or interference out. Overall, GREAT wires for a pretty affordable price.

Quality product at good price

Written By Stefan, Chicago, IL on Thursday, April 19, 2007

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Crutchfield offers great price - hard to beat.
Wire is easy to work with.
The outermost protective sleeve makes it easy to fish through odd places and protects the wires from damage very well. I think the best way to remove the protective sleeve from the ends (so you can connect the wires) is to cut (with scissors or wire-cutters) from the end along the length of the wire. When you've cut to the length you want to remove, just cut around the two wires. Otherwise, it's easy to accidentally cut into the wires. They look pretty slick too, and sound quality is exceptional.
