Parking buddy

If you're looking for an affordable back-up solution, Brandmotion's tiny 9002-7601 backup camera gives you a plentiful 150° view of what's behind you. With 420 TV lines, you'll get a crisp picture, even when it's dark outside, and it's a match for any car stereo with a standard composite video input and viewing screen.

Brandmotion also gives you two ways to mount it: a universal license plate adapter or an adhesive-backed flush-mount. The package includes a 19-foot extension video cable that runs from the camera to the video screen up front, so it'll work in many larger vehicles.

Installing this camera yourself? Here's what you should know.

What does it do? Unless otherwise noted, a backup camera is only intended for use backing up your vehicle. (If you require a front-view or constant rear-view camera, check for that capability.)

What tools and supplies will I need? A panel tool, a wire cutter/stripper, a soldering iron, and a rosin-core solder with heat shrink tubing are recommended, along with whatever tools are needed to remove the radio from the dash.

How much wiring is required? Wiring instructions vary from camera to camera. Some cameras have power wiring that can only be connected near the radio. Others let you power the camera at compatible reverse lights. In all cases, the camera must be wired for power and ground, the camera's video output must be connected to the radio/monitor, and the radio/monitor must be connected to a reverse trigger in your vehicle. Some radio replacement interfaces supply a reverse trigger wire for the radio -- using that wire to power your camera will damage the interface.

Will the included video cable be long enough? You'll need to route the camera's video cable from its mounting location outside your vehicle into your vehicle's cabin and all the way to the screen in the dash. This often requires drilling a small hole in your vehicle or filing some metal and or plastic. You'll also need to estimate the length of cable needed to run from the camera to the dash, which will not be a straight shot. Each camera's cable length is listed.

Features

Universal Camera Kit: The BrandMotion Universal Camera Kit (9002-7601) allows you to add a camera to almost any vehicle with an aftermarket head unit that features a video monitor and composite video rear-view camera input. This universal kit includes a camera, license plate and surface mounting brackets, plus cables.

Note: This camera kit is meant as a driving aid only; never solely rely on the camera while driving. In addition to using the camera, always physically check to make sure everything is clear around your vehicle.

Composite Video Output: The BrandMotion Universal Camera Kit (9002-7601) is equipped with a composite video jack which allows it to connect to most aftermarket in-dash multimedia receivers with an integrated monitor and composite video camera input.

CMOS Image Sensor & Wide-Angle Lens: The camera features a CMOS images sensor that delivers 648 x 488 lines of resolution, as well as a wide-angle lens that produces a 150° wide viewing angle. The camera has a low-light lux rating of 0.5 for driving at night.

Mirror or Normal Image: The camera can display a "Mirror" or "Normal" image on your aftermarket monitor, so it can be used as a front or rear view camera. By default, it will display a Mirror image. In order to display a Normal image, you will need to cut the white loop-wire on the camera's attached cable.

Park Assist Lines: The backup camera provides parking assist lines on the screen of your aftermarket display monitor. These parking lines are there to assist you when backing up into a parking space. There are two vertical lines which help you judge the left and right edges of the parking space and your vehicle. There are also 4 color-coded horizontal lines that are used to distinguish how close you are getting to the end of the parking spot - Green (Clear), Orange (Getting Close), Yellow (Very Close), and Red (Stop).

Note: The parking lines are Off by default. You can turn the parking lines On by cutting the green loop-wire on the camera's attached cable.

Waterproof Housing: The Crux camera features a IP67-68 waterproof housing.

Mounting Options: The backup camera can be installed behind the license plate or on a flat vehicle surface with minimal surface area requirements, using the included brackets. This camera kit will fit practically any vehicle with a license plate when using the license plate bracket. When using the small mount bracket the minimum surface required is 1.5" (w) x 0.75" (d). When using parking lines, it is recommended to mount the camera on the centerline of the vehicle.

Power & Ground: The camera's power (red) & ground (black) wires will need to be hardwired.

Q
Is this compatible with the JVC KD-X560BT head unit?
joel m  Nov 28, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Joel. Thank you for your question. Yes sir it is. JVC uses the standard RCA input for a universal backup camera, and the Brand Motion camera also uses the RCA connection.

Q
Is this a 4 pin or 5 pin connector?
forte  Aug 05, 2022
1 answer
A
The connector from the cameras attached wire to the composite video extension cable (included) is proprietary. They do not list how many pins, or what their functions are.

do they sell the cable separately? I broke mine while installing and need to buy another one

We don't carry the cable separately. You can try reaching out to Brandmotion directly at 734-619-1250

Q
Can this be mounted behind the license plate so the camera bracket is hidden and the camera still be hanging over the top?

A
That's how I did it, bracket behind the plate

My car is a 2004 Tahoe, don't laugh! I suppose with some minor detail work there might be a way to mount the camera such that the lens is flush with the license plate. It would probably require some minor metal work but that was not worth the effort to me. Mine is as shown in the photo and has caused no problems. Good luck!

Q
Would this be a direct replacement for the factory backup camera on my Honda CRV EX-L 2007 (same location etc.) ? I will have my installer wire it to my new Alpine ILX107. Or will I need to leave the existing camera in existing location and find a new spot for this camera?

This device works well with the Pioneer radio unit in my vehicle. I do not know if it would work with an Alpine system.
jan  Dec 31, 2017

It should work if your unit has a RCA camera or video input. This camera has a good picture with good light collection at night.
bryan l  Dec 30, 2017

Q
I do not see anything about a rear view mirror coming with this. If it is not included, why? Second, if it is not included what are you all using as a rear view mirror?
ggrr8t  May 05, 2017
1 answer
A
Thanks for your question. This is not marketed or listed for a rear view mirror so there is not one included. This is just an add on that would connect to your existing video receiver/display. You can do a quick search on the Crutchfield website for "Rear View Mirror" and will see different options available. If you need further help please contact an Advisor by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They should be able to answer any questions you may have.

Q
how big is the camera head itself, I may have some clearance issues?
john  Aug 09, 2016

A
Hi John. I have installed this on my vehicle. The picture quality is very good. It is about 3/4 inch square and the depth is about 1 to 1 1/4 inches deep (I can't measure exactly as the car is up on a lift). To get better clearance after my initial installation I notched my metal license plate to enable the pivoting camera head to bend lower to the ground. I have a low vehicle (Corvette). Good luck with your install!
jan  Aug 10, 2016
A
Its approximately 1" square.
alan  Aug 10, 2016
A
The camera head is about 3/4 inches square and extends behind the tag frame about one inch. But gives a great picture, even at night.
bryan l  Aug 10, 2016
A
The camera head is about 3/4" wide, 3/4" deep, and less than an inch high. It might be easier to see if I could upload a picture that I took with a ruler alongside the camera head. But, I hope the measurements help.
richard  Aug 10, 2016
A
It's less than the size of a quarter but bigger than a nickle the camera head itself. Plus it can be adjusted/angled downwards.
vern  Aug 10, 2016
Q
Does Brandmotion or any manufacturer offer any license light hole brackets for this camera so the camera is integrated into the car and not just bolted on to the license plate frame?
this guy  Jul 15, 2016
1 answer
A
I put the black bar behind my plate and the gooseneck comes up and over for a sleeker look... I installed it on my Porsche 911 turbo. I will say that the picture quality in the dark isn't the best. It works fine but it's grainier than I would like.
stephen howard  Jul 16, 2016
Q
Is the camera position on the license plate bracket adjustable right to left? My lift gate handle is centered over my license plate, so the camera might need to go a couple of inches to the side if it interferes.
quiviran  Feb 17, 2016
5 answers
A
The camera adjust left and right. It sticks out on my plate, which I don't care for. During the storm, it was repositioned on its own. My cousin had to adjust it for me because I personally do not know how to install or even adjust these techy devices. Hope this helps.
simone  Feb 18, 2016
A
NO the camera is fixed on the bracket, it can only move up and down.
david j  Feb 18, 2016
A
Hmmm not really. It does have some up/down tolerance...
stephen howard  Feb 18, 2016
A
It's centered on the bracket. But you can install it without the bracket, it comes with another attachment device.
juann  Feb 17, 2016
A
I placed the bracket behind the license plate and the camera hangs just above the plate. Mine is on a pick up truck and you didn't state what your vehicle is. For all the more space the bracket takes up placed as I did mine, I don't see how it would interfere with your latch.
