About the Audiovox ACA240

Ken Nail
Audiovox's ACA240 rear-view camera and monitor makes it easy to install a rear-view camera in any vehicle. The rear-view camera bolts to your license plate and transmits a wireless 2.4 GHz signal to the dash- or windshield-mountable 2.5" color monitor. Once the camera's mounted and wired up for power, you just have to plug the monitor into your car's 12-volt power outlet or hardwire it for a permanent connection.

Shift into reverse, and the monitor displays what's behind your vehicle automatically, especially helpful if you drive a larger vehicle. You'll really appreciate this extra help when you're backing out of a driveway with limited view or parking in a tight spot.

Product Research

Features

Overview: The Audiovox ACA240 Wireless Rear Observation System is designed to assist the driver by providing a clear and wide image of the area behind the vehicle whenever the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The package includes a camera that mounts to your rear license plate and a dash-mounted 2.5" color LCD monitor. The system operates on a 2.4 GHz wireless transmission system for sending the images from the camera to the monitor. No signal cables are needed, however, both the camera and monitor must be connected to a 12-volt power supply.

Note: Use this monitor and look both ways. This product is not intended to replace existing safety procedures, but rather to add an additional safety tool for your vehicle. Never rely solely on this product to ensure the area behind you is clear of children and/or obstructions.

Monitor: The ACA240 monitor has a 2.5" LCD color display with a resolution of 960 x 234. The monitor automatically adjusts for color, brightness, and contrast for either daytime or nighttime viewing. At night the picture will look more like a Black & White image (this is due to the low light level and is normal). It has an adjustable base, which can attached to the dash by the supplied dual-sided tape. It can be powered by the supplied cigarette lighter adapter or hardwired to the vehicle using the supplied wiring harness.

Note: The LCD monitor measures 3.25" (w) x 2.4375" (h) x 0.75" (d).

Camera: The rear view camera is mounted in a waterproof and weatherproof aluminum housing that attaches to your vehicle's license plate. The camera has a wide-angle 110° view. The camera needs to be connected to the vehicle's Reverse lights which causes the camera to come on only when the vehicle is in Reverse gear.

Note: The rear view camera measures 7.875" (w) x 1.25" (h) x 1.75" (d).

Wireless Transmission: The camera transmits the image of the area behind the vehicle on the 2.4 GHz frequency with a maximum range of approximately 15'. The monitor remains in Sleep Mode until it receives a video signal from the camera. Because this is a wireless system, the monitor is always watching for a video signal. It is possible for the monitor to receive signals from other wireless cameras in the area operating in the 2.4 GHz range, such as security cameras, baby monitors, or even other backup cameras (this is normal).

Is everything integrated in the camera and monitor, or do you have to connect a rca signal receiver for the unit( on the monitor) ?

Yes, I do get signal interference noise on my Monitor when the engine is running. It does not happen when the engine is not running. FYI, my camera is wired into the reverse light on the driver side. My monitor is wired to the reverse light wire at the fuse box.

Yes. I returned it and brought a wired one.

I found that the wireless connection didn't work well so I returned it. I think a unit that has a wire would work better.

As stated by others, the screen can flash intermittently, but the frequency varies. I have found that after a while I just got used to it. In fact on a recent 5 hour trip, the flashing helped me stay more alert after dark. It's recommended to wire the monitor in line with the camera, so both activate at the same time. The Peake camera leaks. The audiovox is waterproof.

Do not understand question (din?) Anyway, I use the plugin only when I backup and it is ok. There is static if you keep it plugged in at all times.

There have been a few times when the screen will blink or flash, but signal has never been completely lost.
