Audiovox's ACA240 rear-view camera and monitor makes it easy to install a rear-view camera in any vehicle. The rear-view camera bolts to your license plate and transmits a wireless 2.4 GHz signal to the dash- or windshield-mountable 2.5" color monitor. Once the camera's mounted and wired up for power, you just have to plug the monitor into your car's 12-volt power outlet or hardwire it for a permanent connection.

Shift into reverse, and the monitor displays what's behind your vehicle automatically, especially helpful if you drive a larger vehicle. You'll really appreciate this extra help when you're backing out of a driveway with limited view or parking in a tight spot.

Features

Overview: The Audiovox ACA240 Wireless Rear Observation System is designed to assist the driver by providing a clear and wide image of the area behind the vehicle whenever the vehicle is shifted into reverse. The package includes a camera that mounts to your rear license plate and a dash-mounted 2.5" color LCD monitor. The system operates on a 2.4 GHz wireless transmission system for sending the images from the camera to the monitor. No signal cables are needed, however, both the camera and monitor must be connected to a 12-volt power supply.

Note: Use this monitor and look both ways. This product is not intended to replace existing safety procedures, but rather to add an additional safety tool for your vehicle. Never rely solely on this product to ensure the area behind you is clear of children and/or obstructions.

Monitor: The ACA240 monitor has a 2.5" LCD color display with a resolution of 960 x 234. The monitor automatically adjusts for color, brightness, and contrast for either daytime or nighttime viewing. At night the picture will look more like a Black & White image (this is due to the low light level and is normal). It has an adjustable base, which can attached to the dash by the supplied dual-sided tape. It can be powered by the supplied cigarette lighter adapter or hardwired to the vehicle using the supplied wiring harness.

Note: The LCD monitor measures 3.25" (w) x 2.4375" (h) x 0.75" (d).

Camera: The rear view camera is mounted in a waterproof and weatherproof aluminum housing that attaches to your vehicle's license plate. The camera has a wide-angle 110° view. The camera needs to be connected to the vehicle's Reverse lights which causes the camera to come on only when the vehicle is in Reverse gear.

Note: The rear view camera measures 7.875" (w) x 1.25" (h) x 1.75" (d).

Wireless Transmission: The camera transmits the image of the area behind the vehicle on the 2.4 GHz frequency with a maximum range of approximately 15'. The monitor remains in Sleep Mode until it receives a video signal from the camera. Because this is a wireless system, the monitor is always watching for a video signal. It is possible for the monitor to receive signals from other wireless cameras in the area operating in the 2.4 GHz range, such as security cameras, baby monitors, or even other backup cameras (this is normal).

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

Works well for basic rear viewing.

Pros: Easy install.

Cons: Cables too small for supplied crimps. Had to solder on larger gage wire.

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

The quality of the image is very bad. The image flickers, cuts in and out, and is very dark, even on sunny days. If it's cloudy, forget it! It's truly not worth the money.

Pros: Easy to install

Cons: Poor, almost nonexistent picture.

And spend a little extra for a camera that actually works. Camera cuts in and out repeatedly with horizontal lines constantly present. I contacted Audiovox and was told "you'll have interference with a wireless product." You get what you pay for I guess.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Everything

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

After a week of use, I am satisfied. Screen is very small. I knew that and I didn't need a bigger one. There was some condensation inside lens the other morning, if that continues it's definitely a flaw and i will return it. Simple to install. If you have a power outlet in the rear of your SUV/van/minivan, can easily wire a plug and use that. That means it's on when the power outlet is on, so you need to know if your power outlets stay hot when the engine is off.

Pros: good system for the price

Cons: condensation in lens, just once so far

So far, we love the camera. I bought two, but unfortunately, my son-in-law hates anything on the dashboard so I'm returning one.

Great camera

Written By kw, North Chesterfield, VA on Saturday, May 11, 2013

Great backup camera. Display is big enough for great visibility, small enough not to get in the way. Camera mounts on the rear license plate with almost no visible wire.

Pros: Great display, excellent reception, good field of vision. Wires not easily visible. Saved marriage and countless trees, people and poles.

Cons: Camera is a little bulky on the rear license, but not too bad. Installation should be left to trusted professional or experienced DIY. The instructions are worthless, as are the in-line taps. I don't recommend using the accessory adapter or ignition tap for the display as the display stays on all of the time with snowy video.

Great Product

Crutchfield Customer Review (What's this?)

I have a 2009 Honda Accord and have found the high trunk and low seat make it difficult to back up safely and accurately.

The instructions are reasonable and the most difficult part was locating the wiring and determining the routing. The camera is connected to the backup light and the monitor connects to the ignition switched 12 volts,. In this mode the monitor remains on while the ignition is on. Alternatively the monitor can be connected the backup light with the camera so the monitor is on only while in reverse.

I tried the first approach and was very disappointed. The monitor flashes brightly and continually while on. It's a distraction, especially at night and in my opinion a hazard. I took a test drive through residential and commercial areas and experienced the flashing at rates that varied from once a second to once a minute.

Moving the monitor power connection to the backup light improved operation considerably. Additional effort is required to run a wire from the monitor to the back up light, but in my mind makes the product usable. There is still some random video noise while in reverse, however it's acceptable.

I was very impressed with the display and its ability to operate both in bright sun light and at night.

Pros: Price - Reasonable installation, dependent on the vehicle - Nice monitor

Cons: The option of wireless connection between the camera and monitor was initially appealing but in my opinion turns out to be not practicable. A wired version of this product would be in my opinion better and potentially less expensive and not subject to RF noise interference.

Is everything integrated in the camera and monitor, or do you have to connect a rca signal receiver for the unit( on the monitor) ? [ Javier  Mar 12, 2014 ]
Yes, I do get signal interference noise on my Monitor when the engine is running. It does not happen when the engine is not running. FYI, my camera is wired into the reverse light on the driver side. My monitor is wired to the reverse light wire at the fuse box. [ MAURICE  Feb 02, 2014 ]
Yes. I returned it and brought a wired one. [ WALTER R  Jan 16, 2014 ]
I found that the wireless connection didn't work well so I returned it. I think a unit that has a wire would work better. [ Bruce  Jan 13, 2014 ]
No! [ Henry  Jan 11, 2014 ]
Thanks Kieth - very helpful. [ Hung  Jan 11, 2014 ]
As stated by others, the screen can flash intermittently, but the frequency varies. I have found that after a while I just got used to it. In fact on a recent 5 hour trip, the flashing helped me stay more alert after dark. It's recommended to wire the monitor in line with the camera, so both activate at the same time. The Peake camera leaks. The audiovox is waterproof. [ KEITH  Jan 10, 2014 ]
Thanks. [ Hung  Jan 10, 2014 ]
Do not understand question (din?) Anyway, I use the plugin only when I backup and it is ok. There is static if you keep it plugged in at all times. [ Jan  Jan 10, 2014 ]
There have been a few times when the screen will blink or flash, but signal has never been completely lost. [ ROCKY  Jan 10, 2014 ]
It doesn't work any more worked for about a week then died [ KIP J  Jan 10, 2014 ]
