Our take on the Audiovox AVD400A

Looking for a CD/DVD player that fits easily in your vehicle with plenty of connectivity? Audiovox's AVD400A can play your favorite DVDs, music CDs, and burned CD-Rs or CD-RWs, even discs loaded with MP3 files. This compact, lightweight DVD player features convenient front A/V inputs, and its multiple rear outputs allow easy connection to your system. You can install it in your glove compartment, under a seat, or wherever works best in your vehicle.

Add this DVD player to the video monitor system in your car for more viewing options on those long road trips. You can control the action from anywhere in the car with the included remote — fast forward, pause, and skip chapters to your heart's content. You can display information on the screen or zoom the image for a closer look.

Slide in a store-bought compact disc and check out the info displayed on the video monitor, including track number, time, and total tracks. You'll also see directory listings and file names from your MP3 discs on your car's video monitor, and you can select which folder to choose songs from. The AVD400A can display the images from a disc containing JPEG picture files on your car's video screen. Use the front audio/video inputs to connect a video game system or camcorder to add more elements of fun to your trip.

Good value

Written By Michael, Bronx, NY on Sunday, March 04, 2007

Was very simple to hook up to my Sony XAV-7W, which has a monitor but no built-in DVD player. The picture quality is great - decent cables provided to plug into my head unit's A/V inputs, but videophiles might prefer to go with upgraded cables.

I had extra room in my 2002 Volkswagen dash, but I like the DIN pocket for storage & mounted this under the passenger seat instead. It's still easy for me to load & unload discs and I can control everything via the remote eye. There's plenty of slack on the cord, you could probably mount the player in the trunk of a car and still have the remote eye reach the driver's seat.

This also plays mp3s, but I probably will never use this for them since I have a Sony mp3 changer in my setup. I ran the power harness wires into the power & ground distribution blocks for my amps at first, but then I decided to run the power lead directly to the fusebox (tapping the windsheild washer fuse) so power would shut down completely when the key's out of the ignition.

Purchased in May and died in October. Unit powers up, but won't accept a DVD. Worked great prior to this...

Crutchfield customer service was great, but no warranty left... Audiovox charges $55 to send in, so that may be my next step.
