With the help of extra accessories, you'll be able to use it at home, with specially-designed portable radios, and in your car. You can add the XM Mini-Tuner to your "XM Ready" home audio/video receiver by using the optional Home Dock, which includes a cradle for the XM Mini-Tuner and a home antenna. You'll be able to listen to XM over your home system by plugging the Home Dock into your receiver's dedicated XM input. You cannot play the Mini-Tuner over a non-XM-ready receiver with standard RCA inputs. No matter how you use your XM Mini-Tuner, a subscription to XM is required. Once you've assigned your subscription to the Mini-Tuner, you can transfer it between as many compatible devices as you'd like, without having to pay for additional subscriptions. Features Overview: The XM Mini-Tuner can be transferred from one compatible device to another, which lets you get XM in multiple locations, yet requires you to pay only one subscription. You can add the XM Mini-Tuner to your "XM Ready" home audio/video receiver by using the optional Home Dock (item #220CNP2H), which includes a cradle for the XM Mini-Tuner and a home antenna. In the future, optional car accessories will allow you to use the XM Mini-Tuner to play XM over any FM in-dash stereo. Note: The optional Home Dock is required for use with a compatible home audio/video receiver. In addition to the XM Mini-Tuner and optional Home Dock, you will need a subscription to XM Satellite Radio to receive XM programming. The tuner itself seems to work fine, and was easy to setup with the home doc plugged into my xm ready tuner. But why bother with this hocus pocus, that never amounted to sqwat. Good idea with terrible execution from Serious XM. A waste of money. I found out I could have bought an XM portable radio and docked it into an XM box at my second home. This would have solved my problem without all of this nonsence. Thanks for nothing XM! Pros: It's mini size Seems to work well with home A/V Cons: Amother false promise of portability "in the future" The future never arrived with for this product, so I have to assume XM really wants us to be slaved to multiple subscriptions. The minituner works as well as though the antenna was hooked directly to it. I love XM. Was this review helpful? Was this review helpful? Yes | No 1 out of 5 Not impressed Written By Chris, West River, MD on Friday, September 26, 2008 Sorry, but I'm not terribly impressed. Feel I was led down the wrong path. Perhaps I should have researched more? Anyway, this setup works great in my car with my Alpine receiver. My negative is that fact that this thing isn't as portable as one is led to believe. Yes, there is a home kit so that if you have an XM ready home receiver you can use it. But, I was under the impression there were portable options too that would accept this tuner card. Guess what? I was dead wrong! No longer can I take an XM boombox over to my pool now that I've converted to this. The only portable device I found was $400 and that's just crazy! I'd rather go back to the old setup of having a seperate XM interface in my car that I can remove and snap into a compatible boombox. This little card has promise, but no technology behind it for portability. Just my two cents... 6 out of 8 people found this helpful Was this review helpful?
