Audiovox

Our take on the Audiovox Movies 2 Go MMD7HRPKG

You can adjust the width of the posts to accommodate the spacing of your vehicle's headrest post opening. These headrests will fit widths of 4-1/2" to 7-5/8", so be sure to measure them in your car before ordering.

Audiovox's Movies 2 Go universal dual video headrest kit provides limitless entertainment to your passengers without a difficult setup. It offers a factory look that complements your car's interior, and doesn't require permanent modification. The package includes two headrests with cutouts for the monitors, two 7" color monitors, a single incorporated DVD player, and three sets of vinyl headrest covers.

Movies 2 Go video headrests take the place of factory headrests, with adjustable posts that adapt to nearly every make of vehicle seat. Choose the interchangeable vinyl headrest cover that works best with your vehicle's interior: gray, black, or tan. The power adapter plugs into your car's cigarette lighter or 12-volt power port, or you can hardwire the system for a permanent installation.

Simple installation
The "master" monitor contains the DVD player and sends the picture to the "satellite" monitor via the included control module, which mounts under a seat or other out-of-the way location. The module also features an additional audio output which can send the signal to your car's stereo or a wired FM transmitter. The wiring that connects the module to each monitor runs through the seatbacks and headrest posts, for a clean-looking installation. You can also adjust the monitors for the optimum viewing angle.

Dual-zone capability allows you to show video from different sources on each screen, so one passenger can watch a movie while the other plays a video game. Each monitor features one auxiliary input for system expansion — Audiovox provides an audio/video adapter cable for connecting an auxiliary source to either monitor.

The package includes two sets of wired headphones, and it works with most wireless headphone systems. Add an optional wired FM transmitter to play the movie soundtrack over your vehicle's stereo. The included wireless remote control gives you convenient operation of the system from nearly anywhere in the vehicle.

Mixed feelings on this system

Written By John, Providence,RI on Thursday, March 04, 2010

I would say you get what you pay for. The headrests are not very comfortable
compared to the stock ones in our Mazda CX-9. We are on our 3rd unit in 30 days.
On the 1st unit the Main monitor would turn off and on by its self and not
broadcast sound via the IR system. (The unit has the ability to have wireless
headphones - it does not come with them - the wired ones it does come with are
cheap and fragile) and the remote would not work. Our 2nd unit would not eject
the discs - we needed to use a
pair of tweezers to get them out. Our 3rd unit is again having eject problems
after it heats up from playing a disc.
Another negative is the location of the aux input. It is right on the video
display area -- this prevents the neat hidden wire look if your looking to add a
play station / 2nd DVD player. The remote is a piece of junk. You need it to
fast forward thru tite screens and previews - no controls to do so on the unit.
Why so many buttons on a simple mobile device? Audiovox could imrove the quality
of this time greatly.
- Positives - simple install, easy wiring, and
they look nice and neat in the car.

Best part about the purchase - Crutchfields customer service - that is a 5 star
rating!

Over all - You get what you pay for - Buy the extended service plan on this one
- you will use it!

Nice unit for the price.

Written By , Maryland on Sunday, January 24, 2010

If you're looking for a nice dual headrest system without breaking the bank, this product is nice. Compared to more expensive products, it is definetly lacking in quality and is a little bulky (loading the DVD's), but overall a great bang for your buck. Installation on my 07 Sequoia took about 2 hours which included hiding the wires. I would definetly recommend this product.

Good product, nice price

Written By pat, Houston, TX on Saturday, October 24, 2009

We bought the dual DVD set up to replace the cheaper portable models that didn't last. Kids love the system, we love the quite stress free roadtrips! Installation was simple and straightforward we opted for the semi permanent cigarette lighter hookup. The color of the gray is slightly lighter than our 09 Odyssey, but close enough for us to leave it in the car. A few things that might help the next buyer: The jacks are very fragile. Take the headset/aux cords out of the jack before you get in and out of the car. Also, save yourself fifty bucks and skip the FM modulator IF you have an AUX IN port in your car stereo. Use a standard 3.5 mm cord and run it from the monitor headphone OUT to the AUX IN in your car stereo. Works just fine for "whole car" listening.

We thoroughly enjoy the system and recommend it.

Difficult to Load Disc

Written By Becky, Columbia, MO on Friday, August 14, 2009

Just want customers to be aware that you have to open the TV monitor (pull it out) each time you want to change your DVD, the first set we had was really difficult to open, and second monitor went out in a few days. However, Crutchfield mailed us a new set very quickly, which was nice. The new set we don't even latch the TV monitor closed all the way so it will be easier to load the movies. Kind of a pain. These come with headsets, but they have to plug into the TV's, they are not wireless. Overall, it is a nice system, for the price. One more sidenote: we had to by another accessory so the sound could play through our car, I have a 2003 Lincoln Navigator, it could be due to the year of my car though.

Caveat emptor

Written By Kevin, Boston, MA on Friday, July 24, 2009

The concept of movie2go is great, and the price point makes it very tempting. Upon professional installation, we found that skin covering that was put (to match the color interior) had a defective zipper. The cost to repair? Well, your skin might be covered, but the uninstall of the defective cover, and the reinstall of the replacement, are not covered.

Within 2 weeks of installation (mind you, professional installation through the installernet network), the satellite monitor now appears to be defective, with a solid black bar obstructing viewing.

The price point is lower than other solutions, but bear in mind, you will tend to get what you pay for. I figure I'll be out an additional $300 or so,with a semi-functional unit, ASSUMING audiovox even honors the warranty repair. The last exchange I had with them suggests that they doubt it's covered under warranty -- and that's 2 weeks after install (4 weeks after purchase).

I was leary of audiovox before, and now I'm not sure if I'll be a repeat customer.

Great product

Written By John, Mission, Texas on Monday, June 15, 2009

I have a Lexus ES 350...the dealer quoted $2000 for headrest DVD system. This system is awesome. It looks great, easy to install and works great! The thing I love the best is if I sell the car I can take the DVD system with me to my new car.

Do Not Buy if you want to use Wireless Headphones

Written By Scott, Miami, FL on Thursday, May 28, 2009

just to give everyone a heads up that they (Crutchfield) does not sell the required wireless headsets and has no clue as to what to recommend except call AudioVox directly. Guess what? When you call AudioVox, Customer Service has no idea but will transfer you to Tech Support, who will fumble around but will get you model number (IR2CHS), only to send you back to Customer Service to find out that they have none in stock, none on order and recommend "you" call one of their distributors to see if they have them. Great Customer SErvice guys..................! i am probably stuck with this system for my car.

Excellent value!

Written By Thomas, Tennessee on Monday, March 16, 2009

I drive a '07 Yukon XL with tan leather. I bought the Audiovox a week before driving to Colorado with three kids. My son (7) and I installed the system in under three hours.

The vinyl matches the seats perfectly. The system fits together easily, with more than enough cable to reach wherever you want to go, and it worked flawlessly through the 30+ hours of driving.

I placed the power/connecting unit inside the center console, under the cupholder tray. The tray pops out, and there is room underneath. I ran the power wire forward through the console, across the trim under the steering, and into the fuse panel. The wires to the screens run out the bottom of the seat-backs, tuck between the seat and seatbelt clasp, and under the console trim. Looking between the front seats and console, wires are visible, but otherwise they are not.

One review mentioned connecting a Y to the audio-out, to plug into the car stereo AUX input. I did, and it worked very well. Some movies we all listened to over the stereo, and when adults wanted peace and quiet, the kids used headphones. I recommend this - it's simpler and much cheaper than an FM modulator.

I could not find an ignition-switched fuse. Crutchfield indicated there aren't any in the cabin. Rather than go through the firewall to get under the hood, I just turn the screens off when the car is off.

Finally, I had to print installation instructions from the manufacturer's website - only negative in the whole deal.

A great option from OE.

Written By James, Jersey Shore on Tuesday, February 24, 2009

I just put this system in a 2002 Olds Silhouette and we love the system. If I ever buy a new vehicle, I will not have the dealer put their OE system in. Why would I when a system like this is more than half the price, with more features in some cases. It does everything it says it does and my kids couldn't be happier. The auto electronics installer also said this is a good system, for what his word is worth, which actually is a lot since he sells several systems in his own shop, too. Buy this and I don't see how you could be disappointed.
