Q
I'm considering this for camping trips so I'd like to know about battery life. Approximately how many days will a set of batteries power this unit?

A
Actually, battery life is very limited on this device. I believe it takes 8 D size batteries and alkaline cells will last about 8-10 hours continuous operation. Lithium cells will last 2-3 times longer, but they run as much as 2-3 times the price of alkaline cells. Either way you're getting about 1 hour of battery life at the cost of $6.00. I'd suggest a regular marine battery or even a auto starting battery and a 12-6 volt converter. If you actually have a camper with a battery you could also use the included 117 VAC converter and an inexpensive inverter. Either would be a far better value. Sorry about that, but otherwise the speaker dock is an excellent unit!

I can only say that the unit is very good, and I am happy with the unit. I have never tried to use it on the battery. Perhaps, you could turn it on at home, and run it until the battery is dead. That may give you the best answer. Sorry.

Since getting this speaker dock...I have not had to use it with batteries....but it was one of the reasons I bought it. I had another XM boom box that took 6 D batteries that I used when power was out and would only listen to it for about 3-4 hours in the evening and the batteries lasted for about 4 days....it took 6 D batteries. Upgraded my radio which is why I needed another speaker dock.

Honestly since I've had the stereo I have not put any batteries in it and ran it off the battery power. I have an inverter that I use when I'm not by a power supply and it works great.

Q
I would like to have this to place in my office but my only problem is that my window faces the north, will I still be able to get reception? I have read reviews that say unless you can face the antenna to the south you won't be able to get reception.

I have mine on my porch semi covered and it faces due west and I have no reception problems.. I really don't think it would matter if I turned it 90 degrees. Hope this helps
william  May 19, 2014
A
You will not be able to get reception from the north window.

I've had good luck with the included antenna as well as an outside home antenna. I use mine in a mountainous area without a clear southern view. I have my antennas oriented horizontally looking up to clear sky not biased to north or south. In my opinion the cone line of sight up is the best way. If you have a receiver already, I'd try it first. It's the same mountable antenna on a pretty long cable. I've been very please with the dock. Have not tried it on batteries yet.

Zak J, the sound dock has great sound and will make a fine addition to your office! The answer you received is partially correct. Typically you do need a view of the southern sky, however, the dock comes with an antenna that has a fairly long cable (20') that enables you to place it at some distance from your docking station, if that would offer you a southern view. The other part is that many cities have terrestrial repeaters for siriusXM and again in that case, a clear view of the southern sky might not be as necessary.

Zak, This was a gift for my husband, so I don't have actual experience with it. But he is not a techie and has an interior office (no window). He set up the system himself with no problems whatsoever. He loves having Satellite music at the office! Only problem was the unit was stolen a couple months after getting it (last fall). He immediately replaced it because he missed it so much!

Does this work with the Sirius sportster 5 unit?

Hi Scott I use this with a sirius lynx radio. It came with 5 adapters for different radios. I'm not sure if one will fit the sportster. I just checked the user guide for the specific adapter unfortunately they are not labeled according to radio. I'm sorry I couldn't help. Kelly
