The folks at SiriusXM knocked their fans for a loop with their first Portable Speaker Dock, which offered convenient flexibility and great sound for a wide array of Dock & Play radios. That Dock enabled listeners to bring the fun of satellite radio to the park, porch, or any room in the house. The latest SXABB2 Portable Speaker Dock adds to the fun with the addition of SiriusXM Lynx compatibility. Now, you can pause, rewind, and replay live satellite radio, as well as access the cool extra channels available on the Lynx satellite radio.
The Portable Speaker Dock features an eye-catching design with touch-sensitive controls, plus a universal remote that'll let you control both Sirius and XM radios, including the Lynx. It draws power from the nearest AC outlet, or you can run it on "C" batteries while on the go. The internal 30-watt amplifier brings the tunes to life, while a concealed handle makes the Dock easy to transport.
You can put the built-in antenna on a windowsill when you're listening indoors, or attach it to the back of the Speaker Dock when you're outdoors. A built-in auxiliary input lets you play an iPod® or another audio source, and you can listen privately with your favorite headphones.

Actually, battery life is very limited on this device. I believe it takes 8 D size batteries and alkaline cells will last about 8-10 hours continuous operation. Lithium cells will last 2-3 times longer, but they run as much as 2-3 times the price of alkaline cells. Either way you're getting about 1 hour of battery life at the cost of $6.00. I'd suggest a regular marine battery or even a auto starting battery and a 12-6 volt converter. If you actually have a camper with a battery you could also use the included 117 VAC converter and an inexpensive inverter. Either would be a far better value. Sorry about that, but otherwise the speaker dock is an excellent unit! [ JIMMY Jul 29, 2014 ]
I can only say that the unit is very good, and I am happy with the unit. I have never tried to use it on the battery. Perhaps, you could turn it on at home, and run it until the battery is dead. That may give you the best answer. Sorry. [ WILLIAM C Jul 28, 2014 ]
Since getting this speaker dock...I have not had to use it with batteries....but it was one of the reasons I bought it. I had another XM boom box that took 6 D batteries that I used when power was out and would only listen to it for about 3-4 hours in the evening and the batteries lasted for about 4 days....it took 6 D batteries. Upgraded my radio which is why I needed another speaker dock. [ MARIE Jul 28, 2014 ]
Honestly since I've had the stereo I have not put any batteries in it and ran it off the battery power. I have an inverter that I use when I'm not by a power supply and it works great. [ RICHARD O Jul 28, 2014 ]
I have mine on my porch semi covered and it faces due west and I have no reception problems.. I really don't think it would matter if I turned it 90 degrees. Hope this helps [ WILLIAM May 19, 2014 ]
You will not be able to get reception from the north window. [ CHARLES May 16, 2014 ]
I've had good luck with the included antenna as well as an outside home antenna. I use mine in a mountainous area without a clear southern view. I have my antennas oriented horizontally looking up to clear sky not biased to north or south. In my opinion the cone line of sight up is the best way. If you have a receiver already, I'd try it first. It's the same mountable antenna on a pretty long cable. I've been very please with the dock. Have not tried it on batteries yet. [ VINCENT May 15, 2014 ]
I have no idea. [ TODD May 15, 2014 ]
Zak J, the sound dock has great sound and will make a fine addition to your office! The answer you received is partially correct. Typically you do need a view of the southern sky, however, the dock comes with an antenna that has a fairly long cable (20') that enables you to place it at some distance from your docking station, if that would offer you a southern view. The other part is that many cities have terrestrial repeaters for siriusXM and again in that case, a clear view of the southern sky might not be as necessary. [ henry May 15, 2014 ]
Zak, This was a gift for my husband, so I don't have actual experience with it. But he is not a techie and has an interior office (no window). He set up the system himself with no problems whatsoever. He loves having Satellite music at the office! Only problem was the unit was stolen a couple months after getting it (last fall). He immediately replaced it because he missed it so much! [ Kimberly May 15, 2014 ]
Hi Scott I use this with a sirius lynx radio. It came with 5 adapters for different radios. I'm not sure if one will fit the sportster. I just checked the user guide for the specific adapter unfortunately they are not labeled according to radio. I'm sorry I couldn't help. Kelly [ KELLY A May 11, 2014 ]
Hey Scott - This unit includes adapters for an incredible number of Sirius radios. You're in luck; an adapter is included for the Sportster 5! It will also support the: Edge Onyx Express RC and RCi Xpress XpressR XpressEZ Lynx XMp3 and XMp3i Stratus and Stratus 4,5,6 Starmate 3,4,5 Starmate 8 And of course, the Sportster 5 I'd highly recommend this unit! [ JIMMY May 10, 2014 ]
I'm in Oklahoma, The radio was a gift for my 86 year old dad in New York. Sorry, I hooked it up and left. Wish I could help. [ BRIAN J May 10, 2014 ]
