Enjoy your favorite SiriusXM programs anywhere

The beauty of SiriusXM satellite radio (besides the amazing array of programming, of course) is that you can enjoy it wherever you go. SiriusXM's SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock lets you enjoy your favorite programs at the park, on the porch, or in any room of your home.

SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock

Your favorite SiriusXM programs will sound great, indoors or out.

It's designed to work with a variety of SiriusXM, Sirius, and XM Dock-and-Play radios, including the Onyx Plus and Onyx EZ. You can even connect MP3 players and other audio devices via the aux-in jack (cable sold separately).

Portable and versatile

The SXSD2's sleek design looks great anywhere, and the included remote control lets you adjust the volume or pause, rewind, and replay live shows without getting up. You can plug it into the nearest AC outlet, or pop in eight "D" batteries and take it with you when you go outdoors.

The concealed fold-up handle and built-in antenna cradle (which also offers cable storage) make it easy to take your tunes from one place to another. Place the built-in antenna on a windowsill when you're indoors, or attach it to the back of the SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock when you're outdoors.

Your favorite programs will sound great, indoors or out, too. The 2.1 sound system really rocks, with separate tweeters, midrange speakers, and a powerful subwoofer that pumps out some seriously impressive bass response. If you want to listen privately, just plug a set of headphones or earbuds into the front-panel jack.

Note: SiriusXM radio and subscription sold separately.

Product Research

Features

Portable Satellite Radio Speaker: The SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock lets you enjoy satellite radio entertainment in your home, office, or other location. A concealed fold-up handle lets you take it on the go. Requires a compatible Satellite Radio tuner with an active SiriusXM, XM, or Sirius subscription.

Note: Even though the SXSD2 is portable, it is not weather or water resistant and should not be left outdoors in the rain or exposed to any water spray.

Compatibility: The SXSD2 portable speaker dock is compatible with the following SiriusXM, XM, and Sirius Satellite Radio dock & play tuners.

  • SiriusXM Tuners: Onyx Plus and Edge
  • XM Tuners: Onyx, Onyx EZ, XpressRCi, XpressRC, XpressR, XpressEZ, and Xpress
  • Sirius Tuners: Sportster 5, Starmate 8/5/4/3, Stratus 7/6/5/4/1
Note: Two adapters are included to fit your plug & play tuner - Adapter 1 (SiriusXM and XM radios) and Adapter 2 (Sirius radios).

2.1Ch Speaker Design: Enjoy full-range sound provided by a 2.1ch speaker system with two tweeters, two midrange drivers, and a down-firing subwoofer. The drivers are powered by a 5W x 3Ch amplifier. The system has a frequency response of 60Hz-20khz.

Indoor/Outdoor Antenna: The SiriusXM SXSD2 Portable Speaker Dock includes and indoor/outdoor antenna with a 21' cable.

  • Outdoors: If you are using the Portable Speaker Dock outside, the antenna should be placed into the storage area on the top of the unit with the antenna facing the southern sky.
  • Indoors: If you are using the Portable Speaker Dock indoors, you should try placing the antenna near a window facing the southern sky.
Note: Once you have chosen a location for the antenna, wrap the excess antenna cable around the storage area at the rear, and plug the antenna cable into the antenna connector at the rear of the Portable Speaker Dock.

Aux Input: A 3.5mm auxiliary input lets you connect your Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Blackberry, or any portable audio device with a headphone jack or analog audio output.

Headphone Jack: The unit is equipped with a 3.5mm headphone jack to connect a set of headphones for private listening. The system's speakers will mute when headphones are connected.

Remote Control: The included IR remote control wireless operates both the portable speaker dock and your docked satellite radio tuner.

AC or Battery Powered: You can plug the system into an available AC outlet (100-240V) or listen anywhere with batteries (requires 8 D-cell batteries, sold separately). Using batteries, you get approximately 8 hours of playback time at half volume.

Auto Turn-On: Your satellite radio plug & play tuner remembers whether it was on or off when power to the device is turned off at the time the Portable Speaker Dock is turned off. Therefore, if your tuner was on at the time you turned the Portable Speaker Dock off, when
you turn the Portable Speaker Dock back on, the Radio will turn on also. If the tuner was off at the time you turned off the Portable Speaker Dock, you'll need to turn the Radio on also when you turn on the Portable Speaker Dock.

Greetings Tim, and thank you for your question. If you have a portable dock and play satellite tuner compatible with this Portable dock, you can move that tuner wherever you like, car, home, portable dock. Main thing, is you need that portable dock and play tuner.

Greetings Danny, and thank you for your question. The SX SD2 portable does not have Bluetooth. For satellite radio you need to dock in the portable tuner. It does have a 3.5mm Aux input for another device to connect play back thru.

there is a headphone jack , I have not used this feature ,I suppose you could add aux speakers like a computer, may need an amp or power speakers, however the stock speakers are very high quality and loud, plus there is a sub-woofer on the bottom of the radio.

Q
is this for in car use and is there a usb plug in for the car?
bill h  Jul 04, 2018
3 answers
A
It doesn't appear that it was originally intended for use in a car. However, it may be able to be used in a car. It's purpose it to make the SiriusXM Radio portable. It does not have a USB port. It does have an AUX input to connect an external device such as an iPod, MP3 player, etc. to play through the speakers. It operates on the included AC adapter or on 8 D size batteries so it could operate in a car. Since the radio requires an antenna, the Dock comes with one and the instructions say to try using it with the antenna in the storage compartment of the speaker dock. However, the Dock would need to be placed so that nothing interferes with the signal to the antenna.
ronald  Jul 08, 2018
A
I would say it is not for in-car use and there is no USB plug in. You could use it in car but I can't imagine why you would unless your car had no radio.
joel  Jul 05, 2018
A
Dock is for home use.

My wife is helping a friend who is going through some health issues with her house cleaning business. Do you think this would work well for her to take from house to house so she could listen to XM while working?

A
Poorly made. Gave up and now use my smart phone and bluetooth
shirl  Sep 12, 2017
A
Yes! She won't ever leave home (s) without it.
john  Sep 12, 2017
A
This is the size of a boombox, so I would not call it terribly portable. Moreover, the antenna always has to be positioned to see the sky. So not only would she have to move the boombox, she would also have to string the antenna to a window. She is probably better downloading the Sirius app and listening through a phone.
cathleen  Sep 12, 2017
Q
Will this work in my basement workshop with no windows, or one window facing north?
ronald  Apr 24, 2016
7 answers
A
Probably it will not, unless you can buy an extended antena wire that will allow to run antena unit to a south window or an outside area.
mark e  May 13, 2016
A
In the absence of south facing windows, I believe that you would need to run an antenna wire to the exterior of your home in order to access a satellite signal. This boom box functions very well but it does require means to acquire a signal.
rodolfo a  Apr 28, 2016
A
Ronald, I have a portable speaker dock and have issues when I'm unable to point antenna to direct sky I've found myself actually running antenna outside of window stapling towards the sky and that was successfully done. I also have sirrius on Internet account which I'm able to listen to with wifi have no issues there plug in to any speaker system with auxiliary or bluetooth doc.
cynthia  Apr 27, 2016
A
I don't think so unless you can get the antenna outside so it can face the southeast sky to pick up the satelitte.
joann  Apr 27, 2016
A
I have several satellite radios & they work best with the antenna facing generally south. This unit has a long cable on a detachable antenna, but there is a very long extension cable available.
john  Apr 26, 2016
A
the unit comes with a detachable antenna with about 10' of lead. You can receive broadcasts only if the city/area in which you live has terrestrial Sirius broadcast in addition to satellite which you can verify through the menu of the portable Sirius dock and play radio or looking up the broadcast area online with Sirius - but terrestrial can be spotty depending upon the time of day, weather, if you're located behind hills, or large buildings, etc. For my garage with no South facing windows, I installed an external antenna (weather / water resistant). It came with a 10' or so lead, so all was needed was 1/4" hole in the ceiling and then through the gable end of the building, mounting, and then sealing up. I had good terrestrial broadcast signal strength in my city, but the outdoor antenna greatly improved the overall voice quality via the greater signal strength and eliminated the nagging very brief - but periodic fading the always seemed to occur at the worst possible time of listening.
terry  Apr 26, 2016
A
If you can extend antenna out Window face it to the South it will work
stephen  Apr 26, 2016

Q
How well does this really work inside an office building? Does the antennae really pick up the signal indoors?
randy  Sep 06, 2014

A
As long as the receiver part is near a window it works perfectly, we have a large metal building. If we did not have windows it would not have worked.
john  Jan 25, 2016
A
I've not had much luck picking up signal inside unless I can get the antenna near a window.
